Brunswick Town Campsite Introduce

Brunswick Town Campsite, widely known as the Brunswick Family Campground, serves as a premier riverfront destination for Maryland residents looking to escape the hustle and bustle of suburban life without traveling far from home. Nestled on an 11-acre stretch of land in Frederick County, this campground is uniquely positioned between the scenic Potomac River and the historic Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal National Historical Park. The site is managed by River & Trail Outfitters, an established adventure company that brings decades of local expertise to the camping experience, ensuring a professional and recreation-focused environment for all visitors.

The campground is designed to be a "base camp" for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is defined by the gentle flow of the river and the quiet rustle of the trees that shade the expansive tenting areas. Whether you are a local Marylander seeking a quick weekend retreat or a traveler exploring the many historical landmarks of the region, the campsite offers a balanced mix of rustic charm and essential modern amenities. It is a place where quiet hours are respected, and the focus remains on family bonding, nature appreciation, and the thrill of river-based activities.

Location and accessibility are among the campground's greatest advantages for those living in the Maryland and DC metropolitan areas. Located at the end of River Front Drive in Brunswick, Maryland, the site is easily accessible from major routes while maintaining a secluded feel. It is a true "canal town" destination, located right off the C&O Canal towpath at mile marker 54.5. This makes it a popular stop for cyclists traveling the 184.5-mile trail from Georgetown to Cumberland. For those arriving by vehicle, there is an on-site wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and the bathhouse facilities are designed to be accessible to all guests. Its proximity to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia—just a short six-mile bike ride or fifteen-minute drive away—allows guests to enjoy world-class history and dining while returning to a more peaceful sleeping environment in Maryland.

The services offered at Brunswick Town Campsite cater to a variety of camping preferences, ranging from traditional tent setups to modern RVing and cozy cabin stays. The management ensures that the grounds are well-maintained, and the proximity to the outfitters shop means that gear rentals are never a hassle. For those new to camping, the "camper cabin" options provide a bridge between the outdoors and the comforts of home, though guests are reminded that these are rustic units meant to enhance the natural experience.

  • RV camping sites featuring 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, with select sites offering full sewer hookups.
  • Extensive tent camping areas, including wooded individual sites in Nottingham Woods and group tenting on the Potomac Green.
  • Rustic cabin rentals that can accommodate up to six people, featuring basic electricity and air conditioning for summer comfort.
  • Public bathhouse facilities equipped with hot showers and flush toilets, centrally located for easy access.
  • On-site boat ramp providing direct access to the Potomac River for private boaters and paddlers.
  • Full-service outfitter shop offering rentals for kayaks, canoes, rafts, and tubes.
  • Bicycle rentals specifically tailored for exploring the level, scenic C&O Canal towpath.
  • Designated picnic areas with tables and fire pits available at every campsite and cabin.

The features and highlights of this campground revolve around its incredible natural setting and the wealth of activities available right at your doorstep. Being located directly on the river provides a constant source of entertainment, from morning fishing sessions to sunset paddles. The community vibe is a highlight for many, as families often gather at the playground or share stories around the campfire. The campground’s layout emphasizes the beauty of the Potomac, with several "riverview" sites that allow you to wake up to the sound of moving water.

  • Direct river access for tubing, allowing guests to walk upriver and enjoy a lazy float back to the campground.
  • Close proximity to the Brunswick Heritage Museum and local downtown eateries like Beans in the Belfry and Smoketown Brewing Station.
  • Easy access to the Appalachian Trail via the C&O Canal towpath for those looking for a more strenuous hiking challenge.
  • Guided tours departing directly from the campground, including popular sunset kayaking and "Water to Wine" tours.
  • A family-friendly playground and open spaces for kids to play safely within view of the campsites.
  • Wildlife viewing opportunities, with frequent sightings of bald eagles, blue herons, and various species of river fish.
  • Availability of pavilions for group gatherings, reunions, or scouting events.
  • Pet-friendly policies that welcome well-behaved dogs on leashes, making it a true family getaway.

What is worth choosing when you visit Brunswick Town Campsite depends on your desired level of adventure. For families, the "Potomac Green" tenting area is worth choosing because of its expansive space, which allows children plenty of room to run and play. If you are traveling with a group, the "Friendship" group site is an excellent choice as it provides a mini-pavilion and electric hookups, making it much easier to organize group meals and activities. For those who want the best views, the Riverside RV sites are highly sought after; though they require a bit of skill to back into, the reward of watching the river from your camper window is unparalleled.

Beyond the accommodations, the tubing service is definitely worth choosing. The convenience of renting a tube on-site and having a designated return point at the campground eliminates the logistical headache of spotting cars or arranging private shuttles. Ultimately, choosing Brunswick Town Campsite is a choice for convenience and variety. It offers the unique ability to go from a high-energy whitewater rafting trip in the morning to a quiet, historic museum tour in the afternoon, all while having a comfortable, shaded home base waiting for you on the banks of the Potomac.

Small cabins I don't know how 6 people could stay in one. There are only two outlets in the cabin. One plug we needed for the AC. That left 3 plugs..

This is a great place for families! The RV spots are pretty close together, but everyone seemed to be friendly and observed quiet hours (10 PM - 7 AM). We like that it is right off the Potomac and they have an outfitters shop to rent kayaks and rafts. The boat ramp area is well maintained as is the bath house. There is a huge tent only camping area that is nicely shaded with lots of trees. They have little cabins as well.We will be back when we have our kids with us!
