Campground#9 Introduce
Campground#9 is a specific and well-known camping area located within the expansive Jenny Jump State Forest in Great Meadows, New Jersey. This destination is part of a larger state-managed system that celebrates the rugged natural beauty of the Kittatinny Mountain Range. For local New Jersey residents, this campground represents a quintessential mountain getaway, characterized by deep forests, massive boulders left behind by prehistoric glaciers, and some of the most stunning panoramic views in the state. From its elevated position, visitors can gaze eastward across the Great Meadows or westward toward the Delaware Water Gap, making it a favorite for those who value scenic vistas and a truly "off-the-beaten-path" atmosphere.
The environment at Campground#9 is decidedly rustic and geared toward those who appreciate an authentic outdoor experience. Unlike modern RV resorts that emphasize high-density amenities, this location focuses on the serenity of the woods. It is a place where the sound of the wind through the hemlocks and the calls of local wildlife are the primary entertainment. The campground attracts a diverse group of outdoorsy individuals, from serious hikers and amateur astronomers to families looking to introduce their children to the basics of woodsmanship. It is a location that demands preparation—especially regarding the local insect population and the terrain—but rewards that effort with a sense of peace and natural wonder that is increasingly rare in the Tri-State area.
Location and accessibility are central to the appeal of Campground#9. Nestled at 330 State Park Road in Great Meadows, the campground is easily reached via Route 80, making it a convenient destination for residents of Warren, Sussex, and Morris Counties. While the forest feels remarkably remote, it is actually situated just a short drive from the historic village of Hope, allowing campers to pick up last-minute supplies or enjoy a local meal. Accessibility within the park has been considered, with a wheelchair-accessible parking lot available to ensure that the beauty of the Highlands is reachable for all visitors. However, guests should be aware that the actual topography of the campsites can be quite varied; some sites are situated up stone steps or steep inclines, reflecting the natural, mountainous terrain of the Jenny Jump range.
For those traveling with recreational vehicles, Campground#9 offers specific sites that cater to small-to-mid-sized trailers and RVs. The entrance to the state forest is well-marked, but the winding mountain roads require cautious driving, particularly for those towing equipment. Once settled, the on-site parking provides a stable home base for exploring the fourteen miles of hiking trails that weave throughout the forest. The presence of park law enforcement and friendly state park rangers ensures a safe environment, providing a professional level of oversight that is standard for New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) facilities.
Services offered at Campground#9 are designed to provide the essentials for a successful wilderness stay without infringing on the natural setting. The focus here is on utility and maintenance of the forest environment. While the amenities are straightforward, they are managed with the professionalism expected of a state-run facility. For many New Jersey locals, the simplicity of the services is a major part of the attraction, allowing for a "unplugged" weekend away from the digital world.

What is worth choosing about Campground#9 is the opportunity to experience the "real" New Jersey Highlands. This is not a manicured resort; it is a slice of preserved wilderness. Choosing this campground means opting for a stay where the primary focus is the landscape itself. For many, the "mix of customers" and the rustic nature of the facilities are exactly what they seek—a departure from the cookie-cutter experience of modern life. The park's staff and law enforcement officers are frequently praised for their professionalism and helpfulness, providing a secure foundation for your adventure.
Furthermore, the campground is worth choosing for its value. As a state-run facility, it provides an affordable way for families and individuals to access some of the best hiking and views in the Northeast. It is a place that challenges you to "come prepared"—whether that means bringing extra bug spray for the relentless summer mosquitoes or navigating the 37 steps up to a specific site—but it rewards that preparation with a memory of a "righteous, straight-up" outdoor trip. If you are looking for a place where you can sit by a fire under a truly dark sky and wake up to the sun rising over the Great Meadows, Campground#9 is a destination that earns its place on every Jersey camper's bucket list.
