Campground Island Introduce
Campground Island, a unique ten-acre destination located in the heart of Dover, Pennsylvania, offers a one-of-a-kind outdoor experience for residents across the Commonwealth. Situated directly within the Conewago Creek, this actual island provides a literal "getaway" from the mainland, blending the rustic charm of traditional camping with the serene beauty of waterfront living. Formerly known as Conewago Isle Campground, the facility has undergone significant transformations under new ownership since 2021, focusing on creating a family-centered paradise. For Pennsylvania families looking for a nature-filled retreat that doesn't require a cross-country journey, Campground Island serves as a local oasis where the sounds of flowing water and the sightings of local wildlife are part of the daily routine.
The spirit of Campground Island is rooted in its commitment to being a "memorable place where memories are made." The grounds are meticulously kept to ensure that visitors feel like they have entered a small sanctuary. It is particularly well-regarded for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, which differentiates it from larger, more commercialized resorts. Here, the emphasis is on simple joys: roasting marshmallows by a fire ring, fishing from the banks of the creek, or watching the resident "native" bunnies hop freely across the island. This connection to nature, combined with modern upgrades to the facilities, makes it a top choice for those who want to experience the authentic Pennsylvanian outdoors in a safe and welcoming environment.
Location and accessibility are strategic highlights for Campground Island. Located at 6220 Big Mt Rd, Dover, PA 17315, the campground is easily reachable for residents of York, Harrisburg, and Lancaster. Despite its secluded "island" feel, it is conveniently positioned near local thoroughfares, allowing for easy transitions from city life to the woods. The management has prioritized inclusivity, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, dedicated parking lot, and accessible restroom facilities to ensure that all family members can navigate the island with ease. The entrance is marked by a distinctive green doorway and a gravel path that sets the tone for the rustic adventure ahead. For those arriving with large rigs, the park features level sites and on-site parking designed to accommodate various RV sizes comfortably.
Campground Island provides a comprehensive range of onsite services that simplify the camping process for both beginners and seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. The goal is to provide enough convenience so that once you arrive on the island, there is very little reason to leave. Available services include:
- Full-service RV camping with integrated electric, water, and sewer hookups (30 and 50 amp options).
- Waterfront tent and popup sites that provide direct access to the Conewago Creek.
- An efficient online reservation and check-in system that streamlines the arrival process.
- On-site sales of firewood and ice, conveniently located near the bathhouse and entrance.
- Professional management of a year-round bathhouse featuring clean, warm showers and restrooms.
- Acceptance of modern payment methods including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.
- Facility rental options for community events, birthday parties, and family reunions.
- A dedicated Island Boutique and store offering coffee, desserts, and local "Island swag."
The features and highlights of the island are designed to engage visitors of all ages, with a particular focus on children and pet owners. The park’s layout takes full advantage of its unique geography, offering a variety of recreational hubs. Notable highlights include:
- Direct creek access for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, with a picturesque waterfall located near the hiking trail.
- A 1,500-square-foot Clubhouse and Rec Room stocked with books, games, a pool table, and arcade machines.
- A massive community circle featuring two large fire pits for group gatherings and evening social events.
- A modern playground area that is highly visible from campsites, allowing parents to relax while kids play.
- Unique wildlife interactions, including a friendly colony of rabbits that children are often allowed to pet and feed.
- Designated walking and hiking paths along the creek that offer great spots for birdwatching and photography.
- A dog-friendly policy with a dedicated dog washing station to keep your pets clean after creek play.
- Specialized activity weekends featuring BINGO, tie-dye crafts, "Truth or Treat" events, and movie nights with popcorn.

What makes Campground Island worth choosing is the rare combination of an actual island setting and a tight-knit community feel. While many campgrounds can feel like a parking lot for trailers, this location feels like a natural park where every site is just steps from the water. The "island native" bunnies are a recurring highlight in guest reviews, providing a magical touch for children that isn't found at larger corporate parks. The ability to launch a kayak directly from your site and explore the Conewago Creek adds a layer of adventure that truly maximizes the waterfront location.
Furthermore, the commitment to cleanliness and service quality is a significant draw. Guests consistently praise the "impeccable" bathrooms and the friendly, accommodating staff who go out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay. The "Makers Hours" and specialized kids' crafts demonstrate a level of investment in the guest experience that goes beyond just renting a lot. For Pennsylvania families seeking a peaceful, safe, and activity-rich environment that celebrates the beauty of the York County landscape, Campground Island is an exceptional choice. It is a place where you can truly "get marooned" in the best way possible, surrounded by nature, family, and a sense of belonging.

Customer Reviews
This place is pretty great. My son and I couldn’t have asked for a better first camping trip. Online reservations and check in really simplify the process. We stayed on the tent side in a roof top tent, far enough away from the camper locations but still within view of the playground and club house. Every site has its power and fire ring and is steps from the water. While not really domestic, the rabbits were a hit with my son and he was able to feed and pet them. The bathrooms were clean, warm, and well appointed. The clubhouse had lots of games and the playground was a blast. They sell firewood on site so once you’re here there’s really no reason to leaveWe can’t wait to come back with the rest of the family.
We will definitely come back to this campground. Everyone is so nice and it has been a very pleasant experience! Our grandchildren come visit weekly and love it here. They play on the playground and in the creek when it was warm weather. Fun times had by all! It is also pet friendly!
This was our first time at this campground and we loved it! The sites were super clean and well taken care of. The location is awesome—there’s a creek all around that’s shallow enough for kids to splash in but deep enough to fish too.The owners really go above and beyond. The store has great stuff, the facilities are clean, and they’ve got fun activities for the whole family. The bunnies were also a huge hit with the kids—they loved watching them roam free. We’ll definitely be back—this might just be our new favorite spot to camp!
The check in, was one line. But as soon as you were set up, you got a visit by a park worker welcoming you and see if you needed anything. The bathrooms were spotless . The game room/ meeting room was very nice and welcome.Made you feel like home. The staff was wonderful. The activities were fun. The stream going around the park was fun to fish . And the hicking trail was nice. Will be back. And the music that was playing around the store was up lifting.
Fantastic time camping here!! Beautiful camp ground. Rv and tent. My Husband and I went tent camping with our 2 puppy dogs. We all enjoyed playing in the river, walking the trails around the island, and relaxing in our spacious site. We were able to fish. They had weekend activities. A game room and ice cream shop that has a few other neat items in it. Very clean facilities!!! Probably the coolest thing is the island has a lot of bunnies. You can feed the bunnies!! It could be nicknamed bunnies island... Great place!!!
