Drake's Lakeside Cabins Introduce

For generations of New Yorkers, the phrase "going to the lake" evokes images of towering pines, shimmering blue water, and the smell of campfire smoke. Drake's Lakeside Cabins, situated in the picturesque community of Diamond Point, New York, captures this quintessential Adirondack spirit perfectly. Formerly known as Porter’s Cottages, this historic resort has long served as a cherished destination for local families and groups of friends seeking an authentic waterfront experience on Lake George. The property offers a variety of housekeeping cottages that blend 1950s-style charm with modern updates, providing a "Family Summer Camp" atmosphere where guests can disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with one another.

Under new ownership, the resort has undergone thoughtful upgrades while preserving its rustic soul. Visitors from across New York State—whether coming from the bustling streets of Manhattan or the quiet suburbs of Albany—find that Drake's provides an uncomplicated and relaxing environment. The property is designed for leisure, featuring a long, narrow layout that leads directly down to the sheltered waters of Basin Bay. This unique geography ensures that while you are nestled in the woods, the majestic expanse of Lake George is never more than a short walk away. It is a place where the morning begins with coffee on a private porch and ends with stories shared around a smokeless fire pit under a canopy of stars.

Location and accessibility are among the greatest advantages of staying at Drake's Lakeside Cabins. Located at 4366 Lake Shore Drive, Diamond Point, NY 12824, the resort is conveniently positioned on the western shore of Lake George. It sits strategically between the high-energy attractions of Lake George Village and the more tranquil, upscale boutiques and eateries of Bolton Landing. For New York travelers using the Adirondack Northway (I-87), the cabins are easily accessible, making it a stress-free destination for a weekend getaway or a week-long residency.

The property is also highly accessible for local exploration. During the peak summer season, the famous Lake George Trolley stops nearby, allowing guests to explore the region without the hassle of driving and parking. For those arriving with their own watercraft, the resort is located in Basin Bay, a protected area of the lake that is ideal for docking and safe for small children to swim. The resort grounds feature paved parking areas and clearly marked paths, ensuring that moving between your cabin and the waterfront is straightforward. While the terrain slopes gently toward the lake, it is designed to be manageable for most families, providing several vantage points for stunning sunrise views across the water.

Drake's Lakeside Cabins prides itself on offering a comprehensive suite of services that make a self-catering vacation easy and enjoyable. The focus is on providing a "home away from home" where the logistical details are handled so you can focus on relaxation. Services offered include:

  • Housekeeping accommodations ranging from cozy duplexes to large, three-bedroom log homes.
  • Fully supplied kitchens in every unit, equipped with modern refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and basic cookware.
  • Comprehensive bedding and bathroom linens provided for all guests (note that beach towels are typically brought from home).
  • High-speed Wi-Fi and cable television available throughout the property to keep you connected if needed.
  • On-site dock rentals for guests who bring their own boats or jet skis, providing easy access to the water.
  • Complimentary use of human-powered watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards.
  • Regular supply of firewood for the various communal and private fire pits located on the premises.
  • Dedicated self-check-in options via lockbox for a seamless and flexible arrival process.

The highlights and features of this lakeside retreat are what truly set it apart from standard hotel lodging. The resort is designed to function as a mini-community, encouraging outdoor play and social interaction. Key highlights include:

  • A private sandy beach with a shallow, designated swimming area that is particularly well-suited for families with young children.
  • Modern smokeless fire pits at each cabin, alongside a large, shared bonfire ring overlooking the lake for communal gatherings.
  • Lakeside decks and seating areas featuring Adirondack chairs and cafe tables for sunbathing or reading.
  • Brand-new, comfortable mattresses in all units to ensure a restful night's sleep after a day of Adirondack adventure.
  • Outdoor recreational facilities including a playground for children and lawn games like ping-pong and corn hole.
  • Individual gas or charcoal grills at various locations throughout the property for classic summer BBQs.
  • Climate control in cabins via new heat pump ductless mini-split units, providing both air conditioning and heat for all-season comfort.
  • Interior stone hearth fireplaces in select units, perfect for the cooler nights of the early and late seasons.

If you are planning your next trip to the Lake George region, contacting the team at Drake's is the first step toward securing your lakeside getaway. You can reach the main office by phone at (518) 644-3018. For those traveling or preferring mobile communication, the number is +1 518-644-3018. The physical address for your GPS is 4366 Lake Shore Drive, Diamond Point, NY 12824, USA. It is highly recommended to book directly through their official channels to ensure the best rates and to discuss specific needs such as dock space availability.

What is worth choosing about Drake's Lakeside Cabins is the rare balance of nostalgia and quality. Many "classic" Adirondack resorts can feel dated, but the commitment to upgrades here—like the new flooring, fresh paint, and updated water filtration system—shows a dedicated effort to modernizing the guest experience without losing the charm of a 1950s cabin colony. It is particularly worth choosing for large groups or multi-family gatherings; the duplex units with connecting doors allow families to stay close while maintaining their own private spaces.

Furthermore, the location in Diamond Point is worth choosing because it offers the "best of both worlds." You are far enough away from the neon lights of Lake George Village to enjoy a quiet, respectful atmosphere, yet close enough to Bolton Landing to enjoy high-end dining and professional golf courses. The inclusion of complimentary kayaks and paddleboards adds significant value to your stay, as renting these elsewhere on the lake can be quite costly. Whether you are looking to spend your days fishing from the docks, hiking the nearby Cat and Thomas Mountains, or simply floating in the crystal-clear water, Drake's Lakeside Cabins provides a reliable, friendly, and beautiful home base for your New York lakeside tradition.

We had a wonderful stay with Drake's. The location was perfect and my family kept referring to our stay as "Family Summer Camp." The cabins are clean and comfortable. The location is peaceful and every other family staying on property was friendly and respectful of each other space. Between the swimming, boats, comfortable seating on the beach, fishing docks, firepits, and grills our camp-like week was relaxing and fun. We are looking forward to our next stay and would highly recommend this location.

A large group 17 to 20 of us have been staying at this property for 30+ years. Formally know as Porters. The ownership changed last year and the name changed to Drake's. The new owners have made many improvements and I feel they will continue to do so. We are scheduled to return again next year and years to come. The view is 2nd to none. The beach is a big plus. If you book this prooerty you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been going here for the past 20 years and I can say that the improvements over the past year have been incredible. While the place was already great it’s even better. The owner Personally came down to check and see how we were liking things and is incredibly friendly. If you have a chance to stay there, I highly recommend it.
