Fantasy Island Campground Introduce

For residents and travelers moving through Central Pennsylvania, finding a unique place to settle in for the night or a weekend is a priority. Fantasy Island Campground, located in Sunbury, offers a distinctive setting that many traditional inland sites simply cannot match. This campground is situated on a literal island within the Susquehanna River, providing a waterfront experience that captures the essence of river life in the Keystone State. It serves as a community-oriented destination where the atmosphere is friendly, local, and authentically Pennsylvania. Whether you are a local from Northumberland County looking for a quick getaway or an RV enthusiast navigating the mid-state region, this campground provides a functional and social base for your outdoor adventures.

The campground is known for its "home away from home" vibe, often housing a mix of transient travelers and long-term seasonal residents. This blend creates a neighborhood feel where guests often interact like family, sharing stories around campfires or participating in communal activities. While the park reflects the character of a long-standing local institution, its appeal lies in its prime location and the genuine hospitality of the staff. For those living in Pennsylvania, it represents a budget-friendly option to enjoy the Susquehanna River valley, offering a place to rest where the utilities are reliable and the surrounding scenery of Sunbury is just a stone's throw away.

Location and Accessibility are two of the most significant factors for any traveler visiting the Sunbury area. Fantasy Island Campground is conveniently located at 401 Park Drive, Sunbury, PA 17801. Its position on an island in the Susquehanna River makes it a landmark in the local area, easily accessible from major regional routes such as US-11 and US-15. This central location means that visitors are only a short distance from the charming shops and local eateries of downtown Sunbury, as well as several nearby municipal parks perfect for afternoon strolls. The campground is also designed with inclusivity in mind, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and accessible restroom facilities, ensuring that all members of the community can enjoy the grounds with ease.

The Services Offered at Fantasy Island Campground are tailored specifically toward the RV lifestyle, ensuring that guests have the necessary infrastructure for a comfortable stay. The management prioritizes practical utility and modern payment convenience to streamline the guest experience. The core services available to visitors include:

The Features and Highlights of this campground reflect its identity as a family-friendly and pet-welcoming destination. Because the park is situated on an island, the natural environment plays a major role in the overall experience. Highlights of the facility include:

  • A dedicated playground area, making it a "good for kids" destination where younger campers can burn off energy.
  • Pet-friendly policies that specifically allow dogs, catering to Pennsylvania families who travel with their four-legged companions.
  • Direct proximity to the Susquehanna River, offering opportunities for river views and water-adjacent relaxation.
  • On-site hiking opportunities for those who want to explore the island’s perimeter and local flora.
  • A mix of concrete and gravel pads, allowing guests to choose the type of site that best suits their leveling requirements.

What is worth choosing at Fantasy Island Campground is the unique combination of its island setting and its cost-effective pricing. For many local users, the ability to utilize discounts such as Passport America makes this a highly attractive "stop-over" point or a weekend retreat that doesn't strain the wallet. While the park is a mature facility that shows its age in certain areas, such as the weathered roads or traditional pad layouts, it remains a favorite for those who prioritize a friendly social environment and functioning utilities over a glamping experience. The staff's reputation for being exceptionally nice and the welcoming nature of the long-term residents make it easy for newcomers to feel at home immediately.

Additionally, the location is worth choosing for those who want to be "right on the water." The island geography provides a different perspective of the Pennsylvania landscape than your typical mountain or forest campground. Being "around the corner" from the town of Sunbury adds a level of convenience for dining and supplies that more remote camps lack. If you are a traveler who enjoys a community-centric park where you can meet neighbors, let the kids play on the playground, and bring your dog along for the adventure, Fantasy Island Campground provides a practical and enjoyable Pennsylvania riverfront experience.

The campground is showing some serious age. The roads are very rough with lots of potholes, and the concrete pads are almost completely disintegrating. We came in on a day that was raining and there was lots of pooling water. It almost looked as if the park was partly flooding. The price though was good as we used our Passport America. I think if you need a place to stay for a night this is fine. The utilities all worked, but their location is tough. I had to add an extension for my water hose, and the sewer connection is almost under your RV once parked on the pad. They do have some gravel sites that were actually more level than the concrete pads. I will give them credit as the staff was very nice. We even met our neighbors campers and enjoyed talking with them. Much of the park is filled with permanent or at least seasonal people. These guys have lots of stuff outside of their RVs.

We really enjoyed our stay here! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Not the classiest RV park we’ve ever seen, according to the advertising we were expecting something nicer. Also pretty tight accommodations. But still a good spot to relax. The pool was amazing! Shikellamy State park is right across the road and a beautiful place to hang out! Don’t forget to check out Pelicans Snoballs if you’re in the area!

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY.My husband and I came back to fantasy island after a wonderful initial stay a few years ago. The bathrooms were clean, the showers were hot, and the campground was nice and quiet. Unfortunately, upon our return this year, with our 11 month old, we discovered that it has really gone downhill since then. The bathrooms are filthy and never seemed to be cleaned the whole time we were here. Trash is all over the floor and the toilets are horrific. The showers only had freezing cold water and the light in the bathroom shut off midway through my shower with my baby. It was terrifying. There aren’t even any emergency or floodlights. This seems very dangerous to me, and it scared both my son and I. There is also nowhere to dress a little one after a shower or have them sit. We brought a highchair into the shower which worked okay except my son screamed the whole time I bathed him since the water was freezing. It’s also 10 pm currently and people are being loud and obnoxious and nobody seems to be doing anything about that. They tout how family-friendly they are, but that’s only if your children are older I guess. Don’t camp here with a baby or toddler, it’s miserable.

I’ve been coming here for the past few years and they were good years, until this year.. I booked Sunday thru Tuesday and when we arrived I asked if we could stay till Wednesday and they said no problem as they had 13 empty transit sites open all week and the weather was beautiful… So Tuesday we woke up and were not feeling well so I asked if I could withdraw the extra night or if I could just save it till next year, Mr W said no sorry you must give 20 days in advance, so I said I’ll still by the night can’t I just use next year, I mean there still getting my money either way, he said he would have to call the owner but he didn’t cause he was sure it would be no…. The place is nice but service wasn’t to par this year!
