Greenwood Lodge & Campsites Introduce
For those who call Vermont home, the Green Mountains are not just a backdrop but a way of life. Tucked away in the high-elevation forests of Woodford, Greenwood Lodge & Campsites has served as a cornerstone of the local camping community since 1960. This family-owned and operated facility is managed by the Shea family—Ann, Ed, and their son Chris—who have dedicated decades to maintaining a property that feels less like a commercial business and more like a private nature sanctuary. Whether you are looking for a secluded spot to pitch a tent by a pond or a level site for your RV, Greenwood offers an authentic Vermont experience that balances rustic beauty with thoughtful, modern conveniences.
The atmosphere at Greenwood Lodge is defined by its tranquility and the genuine hospitality of its hosts. Residents of Southern Vermont and travelers from across New England often remark on the "heavenly" quality of the grounds, where well-kept lawns meet dense forest and shimmering ponds. The property is designed for those who appreciate the slower pace of life, offering a quiet retreat from the digital world where guests are treated like extended members of the family. It is a place where the history of the land is preserved, and the commitment to quality upkeep is evident in every gravel path and manicured campsite.
Greenwood Lodge & Campsites is located at 311 Greenwood Dr, Woodford, VT 05201, positioned at a crisp 2,400 feet above sea level. This high-elevation plateau provides a unique mountain climate that stays cool and refreshing even during the height of summer. The campground is strategically situated just 8 miles east of Bennington and 32 miles west of Brattleboro via the scenic Route 9 (Molly Stark Byway). For those arriving with larger vehicles, the management recommends using 204 Prospect Access Road as the primary driveway to ensure a smooth entry, while avoiding Mill Pond Road which is not RV-friendly.
- Easily accessible from the Molly Stark Byway (Route 9), a major thoroughfare connecting Southern Vermont's east and west hubs.
- Located adjacent to the Prospect Mountain Cross Country Ski area, providing a landmark for easy navigation.
- Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lots, ensuring the beauty of the site is available to all guests.

The services at Greenwood Lodge are designed to provide a comfortable stay while preserving the natural integrity of the site. With 40 campsites in total, the park offers a variety of configurations to meet the needs of diverse travelers. The focus is on a transient camping experience, meaning the grounds remain uncrowded and fresh for new visitors throughout the season, which typically runs from late May to mid-October. The owners take great pride in the cleanliness of their facilities, particularly the "Lodge" itself, which serves as a central hub for guest amenities.
- RV camping sites with dedicated electric and water hookups (23 sites available).
- Secluded, primitive tent sites (17 sites) for a more traditional "back-to-nature" stay.
- On-site dump station for RV waste management, as individual sewer hookups are not available.
- High-speed Wi-Fi access available throughout the lodge area and many campsites.
- Clean, well-maintained public restrooms and hot showers located in the main lodge.

Choosing Greenwood Lodge & Campsites is a decision worth making for anyone who values the human element of hospitality. In a world of automated check-ins and corporate-owned parks, the Sheas provide a level of care and attention that is becoming increasingly rare. It is worth choosing because the property is maintained with the kind of pride that only comes from 60 years of family stewardship. Whether you are a local Vermonter looking for a change of scenery or a visitor wanting to experience the "heaven" of the Green Mountains, the combination of clean facilities, scenic beauty, and genuine kindness makes this lodge a standout destination.
Furthermore, the location is unbeatable for outdoor enthusiasts. You are at the summit of Route 9, surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest, yet you have access to Wi-Fi and hot showers at the end of the day. The opportunity to wake up to views over a fog-covered pond, spend the day hiking the Long Trail, and return to a level, well-kept campsite is the ultimate Vermont camping dream. For families, the safety, the sports activities, and the kid-friendly atmosphere ensure that every trip to Greenwood Lodge results in memories that will last a lifetime. It is truly a local treasure in the heart of Woodford.

This place is the heaven of campgrounds. It has so much to offer and the upkeep on this property is amazing. The same owners have had this since 1960. Both Ann And Ed and their son Chris are the greatest people and hosts that I’ve ever ran into. I enjoyed it so much that I went for one night and stayed for three. There are lakes and waterfalls, fire pits, picnic tables Along with water, electric, Wi-Fi, and plenty of room to roam around. I was so impressed with the sheer beauty of this property in the calming feeling that you have when you’re staying there. I will definitely return for many more visits. 😎🥰🇺🇸🏕️🤩Thank you for making me feel like Family!!Paul Giampa
Absolutely beautiful campsite, it might actually be our favourite of a two and a half week’s road trip through New England! We’ve stayed two instead of one night in the end, because the views over the lake are simply scenic. Everything is very well taken care of and the owners are super friendly and generous. There’s numerous activities, hike trails around the site, all sorts of sports and games included (volleyball, pingpong, kayaking etc.).Do not let yourself be fooled by any of the earlier bad ratings, this is definitely a 5* experience!
Stayed short notice for one night in a tent at a private site, it was beyond peaceful and so beautiful. Staff was very friendly as well. We had one issue with hearing repetitive gun fire not far from our site, I called to ask staff about it and they took steps to resolve the issue immediately, and we had zero other issues. I can't wait to return here for a longer stay next time!
By far the most peaceful and relaxing campground we’ve ever been to. The owners are awesome, so kind and attentive w/o being intrusive. Facilities are well maintained and in excellent shape. If I could give 10 stars I would. Great place, unbelievable views, clean and spacious! Great place.
We stayed here at the last minute, and the owners could not have been more accommodating. This was such a beautiful place, I can't wait to go back. It has streams, rocks, mountain views, fresh air, and peace. The campsites were generous on space and extremely clean. Set up for us was a breeze because the site was already completely level. I cannot recommend this place enough!
