Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm Introduce
For Maryland residents seeking a true immersion in the outdoors without leaving Montgomery County, the Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Farm stands as a remarkable sanctuary. Spanning more than 600 acres of pristine rolling hills, forests, and agricultural land in Poolesville, this property is managed by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. It serves as a living testament to the organization's mission of preserving soil, air, woods, waters, and wildlife. Unlike commercial campgrounds that can feel crowded and transactional, the Conservation Farm is a community-focused space where the emphasis is on stewardship, education, and the quiet enjoyment of the Maryland landscape.
The Conservation Farm is more than just a place to pitch a tent; it is a multi-functional recreational hub that caters to a wide variety of outdoor interests. From the sprawling fields used for community events to the shaded groves perfect for a weekend retreat, the farm provides a professional and well-maintained environment. It is a particularly popular destination for local youth organizations and scouting troops, who utilize the vast open spaces and hiking trails for leadership training and environmental education. The atmosphere here is one of respect for nature, where members and their guests can escape the urban density of the surrounding D.C. metro area and find solace in the rhythms of a working conservation farm.
Located at 20601 Izaak Walton Way, Poolesville, MD 20837, the farm is situated in the scenic Agricultural Reserve of Montgomery County. This location is ideal for Maryland locals, offering a quick getaway that feels worlds apart from the nearby suburban bustle. Accessibility is well-managed, with a wheelchair-accessible entrance designed to welcome visitors of all mobility levels to the main administrative areas and certain recreational zones. The farm is reached via winding country roads that showcase the rural charm of western Montgomery County, making the drive itself a pleasant part of the experience. Upon arrival, on-site parking is available to ensure that guests can transition easily from their vehicles to the great outdoors.
The facility is designed to support both active recreation and peaceful relaxation. While much of the land is dedicated to conservation and sustainable farming, the developed areas provide essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Visitors will find clean restrooms and designated tent sites that offer a rustic but organized camping experience. Because the farm is operated by a nonprofit chapter, the services are often characterized by a personal, volunteer-driven touch, which fosters a sense of belonging among those who frequent the property. Whether you are there for a day of archery or a multi-day camping trip, the infrastructure is built to support a safe and enriching visit for families and individuals alike.

What is worth choosing at the Izaak Walton League Conservation Farm is the opportunity to be part of a legacy of environmental protection. By choosing this location for your camping or recreation needs, you are supporting a nonprofit organization that has been at the forefront of Maryland's conservation efforts for decades. It is an ideal choice for the local resident who wants more than just a campsite—it is for the person who wants a "home club" where they can hunt, fish, shoot, and camp while contributing to the health of the local ecosystem. The sense of community found here, coupled with the sheer beauty of the Poolesville countryside, makes it a premier choice for outdoor enthusiasts.
Furthermore, the variety of activities available in one single location is unmatched in the region. There are very few places in Maryland where you can enjoy a morning hike, an afternoon at the skeet range, and an evening of fishing on a private lake before settling into a tent under the stars. The professional management of the ranges and the clean, family-friendly atmosphere of the campgrounds provide peace of mind for parents and hobbyists alike. For those who value the "common-sense" approach to conservation, the Izaak Walton League Conservation Farm represents the gold standard of Maryland outdoor living.

Boys scouts had great fun here over the past weekend… enjoyed 2 large fields, a lake, hiking trails, camp grounds, fire circles…
Hiking, fishing, conservation, farming, shooting ranges, good people, delicious monthly dinners... well worth the membership!!
Been a member here for 4 years now. Great people, great focus on the environment, not terribly diverse (lol) but everyone is super nice, and a lot of hunter/shooters here. I wish the rifle range was longer, but for shot gun folks, they have a great range for you. It's a long drive to get out here, but that's also the appeal. It's OUT there...great trails to hike and many things to do around the ponds.
This is a private club dedicated to conservation. It was open as part of Montgomery County Heritage Days. They have a fishing pond and a historical property we visited. They also have a monthly dinner open to anyone. Everyone was very nice.
Nothing like getting unplugged and getting back into nature. Beautiful place to be apart of. People are very friendly. The property is very well taken care of and just a great place all around. I would highly recommend becoming a member.
