Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey Introduce

For outdoor enthusiasts and traveling families in Pennsylvania, the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey serves as a premier destination for both relaxation and adventure. Nestled along the scenic banks of the Swatara Creek in Lebanon County, this year-round campground provides a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern convenience. Whether you are looking for a quick overnight stop during a long haul across the Northeast or a multi-day basecamp to explore the "Sweetest Place on Earth," this KOA Journey location is designed to meet the needs of every type of camper. The park is well-regarded for its welcoming atmosphere, where the staff often goes the extra mile—including golf cart escorts to your site—to ensure guests feel at home the moment they arrive.

The campground offers a picturesque setting that captures the essence of the Pennsylvania countryside. With the "Swattie" creek winding past the property and direct access to the vast trail systems of Swatara State Park, guests can easily immerse themselves in the local environment. From the sounds of the water to the shade of mature trees, the park provides a refreshing contrast to the hustle of nearby highways. It is a community where tradition meets improvement; the management is known for constant renovations and seasonal events, such as their popular Halloween spooky rides, making it a favorite for local residents who return year after year.

Located at 11 Lickdale Rd, Jonestown, PA 17038, the campground sits at a vital crossroads for Pennsylvania travelers. Its proximity to the intersection of I-81 and I-78 makes it incredibly easy to reach from Harrisburg, Lebanon, and Reading. For those coming from Philadelphia or the Lehigh Valley, the straightforward highway access minimizes travel stress, allowing more time for actual camping. The park’s location is especially advantageous for "Snowbirds" traveling between the northern states and Florida, providing a reliable, high-quality stopover that is open through all four seasons.

Accessibility is a cornerstone of the Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA Journey experience. The park features wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms, and parking lots, ensuring that the joys of the outdoors are available to everyone. The layout is particularly friendly for those navigating the grounds in large rigs, offering long, level pull-through sites that can accommodate vehicles up to 100 feet in length. Furthermore, the campground provides free on-site parking and well-lit check-in areas for those arriving after sundown, making the transition from the road to the campsite as seamless as possible.

What is most worth choosing about this campground is its unparalleled balance of convenience and recreational variety. While many "Journey" level KOAs are designed solely as quick overnight stops, the Jonestown / Hershey NE location offers enough activities to serve as a standalone vacation destination. The ability to launch a kayak right from the campground into the Swatara Creek—or to hike into 3,500 acres of state park land without ever moving your car—is a luxury that few highway-adjacent parks can offer. It provides the rare opportunity to be 25 minutes away from the world-class entertainment of Hershey while still feeling tucked away in a riverside forest.

Additionally, the park’s commitment to staying open year-round makes it an invaluable resource for the Pennsylvania camping community. Whether you are looking for a summer splash pad experience or a cozy winter cabin retreat, the infrastructure is built to handle the varied Keystone State weather. The on-site restaurant is another standout feature; many guests rave about the convenience of having a hot breakfast or an evening ice cream cone delivered or served just steps from their camper. For families, the combination of safe playgrounds, organized holiday events, and the "KOA Train" creates an environment where children can make lifelong memories. Choosing this KOA means choosing a stay where the logistics are handled with professional care, allowing you to focus entirely on the fun and relaxation of the central Pennsylvania landscape.

Great spot right off RT 81 and our sites 52 and 23 for the return trip offered plenty of room. Friendly staff, great kitchen for your dining or snack meals as well. Don't forget the ice cream! Great looking playground for the kids too. Their Halloween spooky ride was outstanding. All those who work there went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and at home. Renovations are constantly being done too. If we head down that way again, we will be sure to stop here.

Nice campground right off the highway. We got in late and they golf cart escorted us right to the site - nice pull through site. Everything was definitely clean and nice. It is near the highway so it’s not super quiet but worked perfect for us as we were just passing through for the night. Thanks!

Excellent, pretty, CG by a nice small river fot tubing or kayaking or fishing. Excellent food available onsite with to your site delivery. Extremely friendly people. Easy access from I-81. Very fair pricing. Gravel sites with metal fire rings. We had 50 amp service. We will visit here again soon.

Stayed one night to and from Orlando. Excellent access from highway. Both nights were quiet and relaxing. Great check-in staff. The "premium" patio site needs some work as this is not close to other KOA's "premium" sites. Nice large mature trees. Kids loved the splash pad and park. The park does require some maintenance as it was clearly lacking. Overall we were happy here but price was high based on site conditions.

Ideal location for those RVers driving on I81 who need a place to honker down for the night since it's just a few minutes from the freeway Stayed here during the off season and its a nice place to get away for peace and quiet. The general store has most of your necessities, there are a few trails right behind the campground and the river along the back makes it very pleasant for strolls. The bathhouse can use renovation since there are a few holes in the plastic shower and they're the smallest upright shower stall I have ever seen. Toilet stalls are also extremely small; if you're a big guy you may not fit. The water pressure can be improved but the heat was more than perfect. The dog park is a great amenity but the staff has to do a better job of enforcing the pick up poop rules. I saw some of the actual poopers who don't pick up after their dogs are the actual long term seasonal staff. Shame.
