Prince William Forest RV Campground Introduce
For RV enthusiasts in the Northern Virginia region, Prince William Forest RV Campground represents a unique opportunity to enjoy a wooded retreat without sacrificing the convenience of proximity to major urban centers. Located within the sprawling 15,000-acre expanse of Prince William Forest Park, this concessionaire-operated facility serves as a vital bridge between the natural beauty of the Piedmont forest and the bustling corridors of the D.C. metropolitan area. Whether you are a local resident looking for a quick nature getaway or a traveler exploring the historical landmarks of the Commonwealth, this campground offers a professional and welcoming environment tailored specifically for recreational vehicles.
The park itself carries a rich history, originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s to provide a respite for city dwellers. Today, the RV campground continues that tradition by providing a well-maintained space where guests can unwind under a canopy of mature trees. While it is technically situated inside a National Park unit, the RV campground is managed privately, ensuring a consistent focus on the specific needs of motorhome and trailer owners. Its reputation as one of the closest full-hookup RV parks to Washington D.C. makes it a popular choice for those who want to balance forest hiking with sightseeing in the nation’s capital.
Location and Accessibility
Prince William Forest RV Campground is conveniently located at 16058 Dumfries Rd, Dumfries, VA 22025, USA. For Virginia locals, the park is easily accessible via Interstate 95, situated just a short drive from exit 152. This strategic location makes it a favored "base camp" for exploring not only the forest but also nearby attractions such as the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Potomac Mills, and various Civil War battlefields. The entrance is well-marked, and the transition from the busy Dumfries Road into the quiet forest interior is immediate and refreshing.
In terms of physical accessibility, the campground has made significant efforts to accommodate all visitors. The facility features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lots. Furthermore, the public restrooms are designed to be wheelchair accessible. Within the campground, the roads are paved and well-maintained, though visitors should note that the terrain reflects the rolling hills of the Virginia Piedmont. On-site parking is available for each site, and the park provides a free parking lot for visitors and additional guest vehicles. While the sites are designed to be "pull-through" for ease of entry, the natural forest setting means that larger rigs should plan their maneuvers carefully to navigate the tree-lined turns.

Customer Reviews
Nicely maintained and updated campground. Pull through site was easy to get in and out of. Sites are small but served the purpose we needed it for. Pool is clean and a decent size. Easy to reserve site and the service was friendly. Traffic from busy street is a bit loud in the evening, but the other campers were very quiet. Would definitely come back.
We arrived at the RV Park. In so disappointed. Our 29'11" trailer barely fits in the space. Our Awning to trail is in the pull through road and the tongue if the trailer is almost in the road. There is no place at the site to park our towing vehicle except right beside the trailer. If we do that, we cannot open the awning, nor can we sit outside any where except the 5 sf of space between our site and the one next to us. I was seriously looking forward to return to Prince William Forest after having camped here as young Girl Scout. This campground is a disgrace to the image. This is beyond horrible. Be assured I'll spread the word and we will never return.
45min to 1 hr from all the main spots in D.C. Very quiet nice campground. All employees have been very friendly. They will allow campers longer than 35 ft but it is tight if you are at or longer. Nice pool, it did break while we were there(obviously not their fault.) I do always think though that when something like this happens there should be something returned monetarily etc but I have yet to have that happen. Other than that I would recommend camping here.
Everything was great except for the wifi access. I understand that it can be intermittent from time to time, but this is the first I've experienced no internet for over 3 weeks. When I contacted the front desk, they stated that this has been a long time issue and the manager has no plans to address it anytime soon. If this is the case, then remove the amenity from the list of what you say provide. There is a big difference between spotty or intermittant wifi and no wifi at all. You will set the expectation better for the guests if you do that.
This is a National Park campground in a beautiful woods location. It has lots of shade to keep it cooler. The sites are on a hillside so RVs need to be prepared for the need for significant leveling front to back. The rv pads are all paved but close together. It was quiet at night. Our grandson enjoyed the swimming pool.
