Sugar Creek Glen Campground Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts and families across the New York region, Sugar Creek Glen Campground stands as a breathtaking destination that captures the essence of the Finger Lakes' natural beauty. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Southern Tier, this campground is far more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it is a sprawling 90-acre sanctuary characterized by its dramatic limestone cliffs, lush meadows, and the gentle roar of five distinct on-site waterfalls. Managed with a personal touch by owners Daniel and Merav, the park has built a reputation for being a clean, peaceful, and welcoming environment where guests can truly disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature.
The atmosphere at Sugar Creek Glen is one of tranquil adventure. Whether you are a seasoned hiker looking to scale the shale banks of the glen or a family looking for a safe, engaging environment for children to play, the campground offers a unique blend of ruggedness and comfort. The property is split into diverse sections, including shaded wooded areas and open, sunny meadows, ensuring that every camper can find a site that matches their preference. Local residents often refer to it as a "hidden gem" because it provides the kind of waterfall access usually reserved for state parks, but with the intimacy and hospitality of a privately owned family business.
Location and accessibility are key components of the Sugar Creek Glen experience. Located at 11288 Poags Hole Rd, Dansville, NY 14437, the campground is remarkably easy to reach for those traveling from major New York hubs like Rochester, Buffalo, or Corning. It is situated just five miles from I-390, making it an ideal weekend getaway for locals who want to feel worlds away without a grueling drive. Despite its proximity to the highway, the geography of the "Poag’s Hole" area creates a natural sound barrier, maintaining a quiet environment. The entrance and parking facilities are designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible parking and restrooms, ensuring that the beauty of the glen is available to as many visitors as possible.
The services offered at Sugar Creek Glen Campground are designed to provide a seamless outdoor experience, whether you are staying for a night or the entire season. The management provides a robust infrastructure that supports both primitive and modern camping styles. The following services are available to all registered guests:
- Full RV hookup services, including both water and 30/50 amp electrical connections.
- Dedicated onsite services such as a sanitary dump station and a "honey wagon" service for extended stays.
- A well-stocked camp store providing essential groceries, camping supplies, ice, and firewood.
- Secure gated entrance with security cameras throughout the park for peace of mind.
- Clean, heated bathhouses featuring hot showers (standard quarters required) and flush toilets.
- On-site laundry facilities and a washing-up area for dishes and gear.
- Convenient payment processing, accepting all major credit and debit cards for camping fees and store purchases.
What truly sets this destination apart are the features and highlights that make every visit memorable. From the natural geological formations to the structured community events, there is always something to discover. The highlights of the park include:
- Five stunning waterfalls located directly on the property, including a signature lower fall that is illuminated at night.
- Extensive hiking and nature trails that allow for upstream "creek walking"—a favorite activity for those who enjoy exploring water holes and natural stone formations.
- Comfortable camping cabins equipped with electricity, air conditioning, and covered porches, perfect for those who prefer "glamping" over traditional tents.
- A large playground for children, featuring a unique "sailing ship" play structure and various kid-friendly activities.
- A recreation hall filled with books and games, serving as a hub for community events like movie nights and themed parties.
- Direct access to Class A trout fishing in the Canaseraga Creek, which borders the property.
- Pet-friendly policies that welcome dogs, provided they remain on a leash and follow community guidelines.
For those planning a trip, having the correct contact information is essential for making reservations, as the park often reaches capacity during peak summer months and holiday weekends. The management encourages early booking to secure preferred sites, especially the coveted waterfront spots along the creek.

When deciding on a destination in the New York region, Sugar Creek Glen Campground is worth choosing because it offers an organic experience that is increasingly hard to find. Unlike larger, corporate-run resorts, this campground maintains a deep connection to the land. The "creek walk" hike is a legendary local experience; it challenges hikers to wade through ankle-deep water and climb over natural stone tiers to reach hidden pools and rope swings. It is the type of environment that fosters real adventure and creates lasting memories for children who get to experience the "wild" side of New York in a controlled and safe setting.
Furthermore, the value of staying at Sugar Creek Glen is enhanced by its proximity to other major attractions. While the campground itself offers enough to keep a family busy for a week, it is only a short drive from Stony Brook State Park and the world-renowned Letchworth State Park, often called the "Grand Canyon of the East." Choosing Sugar Creek Glen as your base camp allows you to enjoy these famous landmarks during the day and return to a private, quieter retreat in the evening. The personal dedication of Daniel and Merav ensures that the grounds are not just a business, but a shared home for all who visit.
The campground also excels in its community spirit. Throughout the season, the park hosts themed weekends ranging from "Around the World Site Crawls" to "Labor Day Carnival Weekends" featuring live bands and field games. This blend of natural serenity and vibrant social life makes it a versatile choice for everyone from the solo hiker seeking solitude to the large family group looking for a festive holiday. By choosing Sugar Creek Glen, you are supporting a local business that has spent over five decades preserving a beautiful piece of New York's landscape for future generations to enjoy.
In a world where vacations are often rushed and commercialized, Sugar Creek Glen Campground invites you to slow down. It is a place where the primary sounds are the rustling of leaves and the constant, soothing melody of falling water. Whether you are splashing in the creek on a hot July afternoon or warming yourself by a crackling fire under a star-filled Dansville sky, you will find that this campground provides the perfect backdrop for a quintessential New York outdoor experience. It is a destination that truly captures the heart of its visitors, bringing them back year after year to enjoy the simple, profound beauty of the glen.

Sugar Creek Glen Campground is one of those rare places that instantly captures your heart. The grounds are absolutely beautiful — peaceful, clean, and surrounded by waterfalls and nature that make you never want to leave. But what truly makes this place so special are the owners, Daniel and Merav. They are some of the kindest, most genuine, and caring people you’ll ever meet. You can feel their love for the land and for their guests in everything they do — from the way the campground is maintained to the way they personally welcome and look after everyone who stays there. It’s not just a campground, it’s an experience — filled with warmth, connection, and beauty. Every visit feels like coming home.Thank you, Daniel and Merav, for creating such a magical place and sharing it with all of us. Can’t wait to come back!
I came here as a kid and wanted to come back for years. My husnabd and i had a great 2 night stay. Super easy check in, polite people in and around the campsite. We walked up creek and saw all the waterfalls. The creek and the campgrounds are clean. The only complaint is that some campsites only offer gravel to pop your tent on, and that it wasn't mentioned you need quarters to shower. 2 quarters is plenty enough time, just wish I knew in advance to bring quarters. We had a great time here and hope to come back next year with family.
This was our first visit here. Absolutely enjoyed our stay here. There are a lot of seasonal campers here, but everyone was friendly and welcoming. Camping spots were very spacious. Will definitely come back!
My friends and I camped there this past weekend and had an amazing time! The location was perfect! No cell reception, the perfect way to camp but they offer WiFi for those in need. The atmosphere was welcoming, fun and the energy there was great. The owners were there and always ready to help or answer questions!Great little campground with water falls and creeks! Heaven on Earth!
Came here as a child and was so happy to share this with my children and our closest friends. This is my number one go-to campground. Great experience and the most beautiful views. Can't wait to go back. We had a group of 20 and every single person had a great time and everyone wants to make this an annual trip. Thanks for having us!!!
