Whispering Winds Campground and Cabins is a premier outdoor destination located in the picturesque landscapes of Sheffield, Pennsylvania. Nestled on approximately 20 acres of lush woodlands within the heart of the Allegheny National Forest, this family-owned and operated campground has been a staple for nature lovers since its establishment in 1962. For Pennsylvania residents and travelers alike, it offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern convenience. The property is uniquely characterized by a gentle stream that meanders through the grounds, providing a soothing natural soundtrack for a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The campground is designed to be a "home away from home," where cleanliness and hospitality are top priorities. Under the dedicated care of its owners, the park maintains a reputation for being one of the cleanest and most organized facilities in the region. Whether you are looking for a place to park a large RV, pitch a traditional tent under the stars, or stay in a fully-equipped cabin, Whispering Winds provides a safe and welcoming environment. The community atmosphere encourages families to disconnect from their screens and reconnect with the outdoors, making it a cherished spot for creating lifelong memories in the PA Wilds.
Location and accessibility are major draws for visitors coming from across the Commonwealth. Situated at 277 Tollgate Road, the campground is conveniently located just off the historic and scenic Route 6. What is worth choosing about Whispering Winds is the rare combination of a "mom and pop" feel with professional-grade amenities. It is worth choosing specifically for its location; being in the heart of the national forest while still having access to high-speed Wi-Fi and clean, modern bathhouses provides the best of both worlds. For families, the park is a standout because of the safe, quiet environment where children can play freely in the stream or at the playground while parents relax nearby. The attention to detail, from the neatly mown grass to the level gravel pads, ensures that your focus remains on your vacation rather than on site maintenance issues.
Additionally, the campground serves as an excellent hub for exploring nearby Pennsylvania attractions like the Kinzua Bridge Skywalk and the Kinzua Dam. After a long day of sightseeing, returning to a "peaceful and quiet" site by the water is an experience many campers cite as the highlight of their trip. While guests should be mindful of peak-time water pressure—a common quirk in rustic locations—the overall quality of the stay and the friendliness of the hosts make Whispering Winds a top-tier choice for anyone looking to experience the beauty of the Pennsylvania forest. Whether you are a local Sheffield resident looking for a weekend getaway or a traveler passing through on Route 6, this campground offers a restorative and enjoyable outdoor experience.

This has to be one of the better, if not best, full hookup campground in the National Forrest that we've stayed at so far. The campground was clean, quiet and peaceful. The stream running through the middle of campground is great, loved seeing all the kids playing in the water instead of their nose in a screen or tablet. There are plenty of trees for shade and walking/hiking paths. We'll be back for sure. One area of concern/caution - Very low water pressure on Sunday mid-morning when everyone is trying to clean up and pack up. Plan accordingly for extra time or do it early.
Arrived after a long drive and lots of aches and pains but was met shortly after by Mary, who was very accommodating. All my questions were answered and I felt welcomed and at home right off the bat. The area is beautiful and spacious. Very clean as well. Definitely a worthwhile place to stay!!
We stayed in the Hillside cabin for a couple of nights this past week. It was very cute and just the right size for us, a retired couple, but would have easily accomodated a small family or two couples. It was spotless when we went in. I really appreciated the fact that after a long drive, I didn't have to clean or wipe down anything!!! Plenty of hot water, a nice little TV with cable, and the internet access made it just perfect!! We loved it and the campground is beautiful. The campsites seemed to be spaced nicely and the fact that it is directly connected to the Allegheny National Forest with a trail head right there was a plus for us.
Such a nice campground! We will definitely be back. It was so calm and peaceful and the running water in the background was so relaxing. Everyone was so friendly. The spots were a decent size. Campground was clean. Bathrooms were very clean.
A little piece of heaven! This campground quickly became my favorite in PA. The main feature is a peaceful creek that runs through the campground. It’s magical to good to sleep to the sound of rushing water. Ann is a wonderful host. Super friendly and very accommodating. LTE is bit spotty, but good enough for the kind of work I do. The National Forest borders the campground and there is an old road that you can right out of the campground to go for a nice long hike in the woods. My kids (4 and 7) loved the creek and playground (it was early May so the pool wasn’t open yet), but the cherry on top for all of us was the game room with some vintage arcade games… If you’re feeling nostalgic, bring plenty of quarters so you can have some fun :) We stayed here for a little over a week, and all in all I’d give it 10 out of 10! We’ll definitely camp here again next time we travel to this side of PA.
