Willows on the Lake Campground Introduce

Willows on the Lake Campground is a premier 12-acre destination situated directly on the eastern shores of Lake Ontario in Northern New York. This scenic retreat offers a quintessential Empire State camping experience, combining the natural beauty of the Great Lakes with a range of accommodation options including traditional RV sites, rustic log cabins, and spacious cottages. Known for its breathtaking westward-facing sunsets and tranquil atmosphere, the park serves as a hub for both seasonal residents and transient travelers looking to explore the historic Seaway region. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a summer-long residence, the campground provides a picturesque backdrop for creating lasting memories with family and friends.

The property is characterized by its level, grassy terrain and mature willow trees that frame the waterfront views. As a privately owned facility, it focuses on providing a peaceful environment that highlights the majestic presence of Lake Ontario. For residents of New York seeking a local escape, Willows on the Lake offers a refreshing alternative to larger, more crowded state parks, while still maintaining proximity to essential services and regional attractions. The campground’s layout is designed to maximize the lakefront experience, with many sites offering direct or partial views of the water, ensuring that the sound of the waves is never far away.

Location and accessibility are among the strongest features of Willows on the Lake Campground. Located at 11609 State Rte 3 #1, Adams, NY 13605, the park is positioned along a major regional thoroughfare, making it easily accessible for large RV rigs and towing vehicles. Its strategic location places it less than five minutes from the historic village of Sackets Harbor and the popular Westcott Beach State Park. For those coming from Central or Western New York, the campground is a convenient drive via Interstate 81, situated just 20 minutes from the city of Watertown. This accessibility allows guests to enjoy the seclusion of a lakeside retreat without sacrificing the convenience of nearby shopping, dining, and emergency services.

Accessibility within the park itself is a priority, with facilities designed to accommodate all guests. The entrance and parking lots are wheelchair accessible, and the campground features accessible restrooms to ensure a comfortable stay for visitors with mobility needs. The park operates seasonally, typically from mid-April through mid-October, capturing the best of the New York summer and autumn foliage seasons. Guests should note that while the park is conveniently located, its proximity to the lake means that weather conditions can change quickly, adding to the authentic coastal feel of the North Country.

Services offered at Willows on the Lake Campground are designed to provide a comprehensive and hassle-free camping experience. The management team provides onsite services to assist guests throughout their stay, ensuring that the grounds remain well-maintained and functional. The available services include:

  • Full-service RV camping with 30-amp and 50-amp electrical hookups to accommodate various sizes of motorhomes and trailers.
  • Direct RV water hookups and sewer connections at select sites for maximum convenience during extended stays.
  • Onsite laundry facilities, allowing long-term guests and seasonal campers to manage their needs without leaving the property.
  • High-speed Wi-Fi access available throughout the campground, making it possible for remote workers or students to stay connected.
  • Modern restroom and hot shower facilities that are centrally located and regularly maintained for cleanliness.
  • A dedicated campground store and office providing essentials, ice, and firewood for evening campfires.
  • Flexible payment options, including the acceptance of major credit cards and debit cards for camping fees and purchases.

The features and highlights of the campground reflect its commitment to being a family-friendly and pet-friendly destination. From the recreational courts to the private lake access, there is something for every type of outdoor enthusiast. Notable highlights include:

What is worth choosing at Willows on the Lake Campground is the specific type of "unplugged" luxury that only a waterfront location can provide. Choosing a lakeside cottage or a premium RV site here means prioritizing your view and your peace of mind. For those who enjoy the "cabin life" without the need for a tent or trailer, the lakeside units attached to the main office are highly recommended. These units often feature spacious decks, full kitchens with modern appliances like dishwashers, and comfortable master bedrooms that overlook the water. The inclusion of welcome baskets for cabin guests is a thoughtful touch that highlights the professional yet friendly management style.

Furthermore, the campground is worth choosing for its balance between nature and history. Staying here allows you to spend your mornings hiking the trails at nearby Westcott Beach and your afternoons touring the 1812 battlefields in Sackets Harbor. The ability to return to a quiet site at the end of the day to watch the sun sink below the horizon of Lake Ontario is a unique experience that defines the region. While the park has transitioned to corporate management in recent years, it remains a clean and organized choice for those who value a structured camping environment with clear rules regarding quiet hours and site maintenance. This ensures that every guest can enjoy the serene atmosphere that originally made the "Willows" a staple of the Adams community. Whether you are a local New Yorker or traveling from afar, the combination of professional amenities and raw natural beauty makes this campground a standout choice for your next outdoor adventure.

I have held off in writing this review as I have been waiting for a return call from the Manager. We stayed at Willow on the lake the 4th of July weekend. When we arrived the clerk showed us our spot, right up front by the office. This was not the site that we reserved when we made the reservations. She proceeded to reassign us to another location, again not the site we reserved when we made the reservation. This site was a 30 amp site, we originally reserved a 50 amp site as we have 2 AC units. We would never book a 30 amp in the July heat. Our fire pit still had charred logs and filled with ash in it. The site next to us looked like a seasonal who pulled out quickly. They left behind outdoor furniture and there were dog poo bags in their fire pit. We asked the clerk for some compensation. She told us to contact the manager, a message was left for her. On Sunday morning we had no water! Another call to the manager! Return call was made to check that we had water.A month later and we still have not heard back from the Manager. So while I have gotten 2 emails for input or survey (without a viable link) I’m left to wonder if they really want input from guests. This used to be a well kept campground before it was sold to a corporate entity. Now it’s an overpriced, becoming rundown campground. Too bad because it’s in a beautiful location!Edited 9/4/25After seeing the owner/manager comment I did send an email on 8/22/25 stating I would love to talk to her regarding our stay. The only response was that she was out of the office until 8/24/25. I still have not heard back from Jennifer.Edited 10/11/25Apparently I am now being GHOSTED. So to me silence speaks volumes! They don’t care! What was once a GREAT park when privately owned in now a DISGRACE and OVERPRICED owned by corporate!

What a wonderful treat! We stayed in the “cabin” attached to the campground store/office.The main bedroom was roomy and comfortable. The view was outstanding (2 decks on Lake Ontario). The kitchen was spacious and had plenty of refrigerator space and even a dishwasher. The welcome basket was a very appreciated treat! We’re looking forward to our next visit!

Our family had 2 sites at The Willows. Ours was a 50 amp pull through. The lot was spacious and plenty of grass space to walk the dog.My daughter’s family stayed in cabin 3. It was gorgeous! Big kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a sun porch. It was lake side with a gazebo for watching the most beautiful sunsets. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We all loved our stay!

This campground provided spacious sites with all the hook ups necessary to enjoy the stay. Michelle and Sarah went out of their way to make the booking and check in process smooth and seamless. The location on the lake provided picturesque sunsets, a great view of the fireworks on the fourth, enjoyable swimming, and wonderful lake Ontario breeze. We will definitely be returning to the Willows, hopefully for an even longer stay.
