Yes, you read that title right. After we left Arizona, we made a brief stop in Las Vegas for the weekend to break up our drive to our next destination. We generally travel between 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 hours between sites. This makes for a long day and is mentally exhausting. We struggled trying to find places to stay, but Colton found this RV park / gun range with great reviews just north of Vegas overlooking the city. It was a nice, gated area with security around the clock, which we liked and felt safe. The view was also pretty incredible. At night, you could see all of the Vegas lights twinkling on the horizon. There were a few downsides, however. First, the bathrooms closed when the gun range closed and we never did find the shower area. Not a big deal because we were only there for two days. Another issue, more of an annoyance than anything, was there was some sort of excavator running all night. The thing I hated about this place was the weekend event that we were unaware of. I have no idea what the event was, but we were awoken at 7:30am to the Pledge of Allegiance, a reading of the rules, and the day’s itinerary. This was of course followed by a cacophony of shotguns blasts. I’m no stranger to shotguns and I know where we were staying, but why at 7:30am? After seeing a show in Vegas and listening to an excavator all night, I was tired, and a 7:30am unsolicited wakeup call was just rude.

Anyway, as I mentioned, since we were in Vegas we had to see a show or two! Our first night we took the kids to Excalibur to see Tournament of Kings. Since we were going to a show with kings and knights, Lylah felt necessary to dress like a princess for the occasion. The kids loved the show. Lylah was jumping up and down cheering for our knight. Both kids really enjoyed the show. The next day, we wandered around a little bit in a few of the hotels and had dinner in the Luxor. After dinner, we took the kids to the Cirque du Soleil show KA. Colton and I had seen this show years ago and we thought the kids would really enjoy it. Suffice it to say, we set the bar really high for all future shows the kids see.

Quick trip to Las Vegas for us, less than 48 hours, but memorable none the less.

Hello, my name is Kayla, and I'm a registered nurse from the Midwest. My husband and I have celebrated 20 years of marriage and are parents to two children. Our eldest, who has special needs, faced challenges in a traditional school environment. After exhausting all our options to support him, we chose to take a year-long break from society. We sold our house and most belongings, purchased an RV, and set off on an adventure across the United States. This year of travel allowed us to grow both individually and as a family.

My son and I both grapple with ADHD. I was unaware of my condition until it was pointed out by my son's psychiatrist during our first meeting. The most significant challenge I face with ADHD is communication. In one-on-one interactions, I manage fairly well, but when I'm nervous, upset, or deeply engaged with the subject, my thoughts become muddled, and my speech turns into a jumbled mess. Adding to the complexity, I have an INFP personality type according to the Myers-Briggs chart, which means I often find myself nervous, upset, or deeply passionate. To deal with these communication hurdles, I tend to fall back on silence, keeping my thoughts to myself.

Blogging has reignited my passion for storytelling, with travel as my muse, and helped me find my voice. Despite the irony of being a storyteller who struggles with verbal communication, I've found my voice through travel blogging and newsletters. This has allowed me to express my true, authentic self—a goal that has long been elusive. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all my readers for giving me a platform to be unapologetically me.

I would love to have you follow along in our journey as we navigate RV life, homeschooling and discover amazing places across the country!
