We Left Roswell, NM earlier than we would normally leave on moving days because we heard a windstorm was coming. We did what we could to beat the worst of it, but our plan only held out for so long. We made it to Santa Rosa before the wind hit its peak, but we were still caught driving to our destination with high winds. They were mainly cross-winds for a majority of the trip and we estimated the winds reaching close to 50 mph gusts. We were worried that our 5th wheel would catch a massive gust of wind and blow over into the ditch. Colton was white knuckle driving the entire way, my palms were sweating, and the kids were playing in the back seat without a care in the world. We made it safely and were able to set up before the winds hit top speeds.

Santa Rosa Lake State Park was a beautiful area, but due to the weather we didn’t get much time to explore. The kids tried riding their bike around the campground, but the wind kept blowing them over. The wind and weather were not great that week, but we did make a quick visit to see the Santa Rosa anomaly, The Blue Hole. The Blue Hole is another sinkhole in New Mexico, fed by a natural spring and located in the middle of town nonetheless. The constant refreshing of the water from underground aquifers keeps the temperature of the water in the Blue Hole between 61-64 degrees. This is a popular area for divers due to the underwater caves. While swimming is allowed, we stayed on the shore.

Over the weekend, we drove into Santa Fe, NM to see something I have wanted to see for awhile. After telling Lylah about it, she has been impatiently waiting to go there as well. We finally made it to Meow Wolf. If you have never heard of Meow Wolf before, it is an interactive art museum. They have locations in Santa Fe, NM, Las Vegas, NV, Denver, CO, and one opening soon in Grapevine, TX. The best way to describe Meow Wolf in Santa Fe is an interactive art museum with a storyline. You enter through what appears to be a house, but mysterious circumstances occurred which opened up passageways into different dimensions. Fun Fact: The Meow Wolf in Santa Fe was funded by George R.R. Martin, the author of the Game of Thrones franchise, so you know it has to be good. We spent HOURS there exploring. We even came out of the exhibit for a quick break, then went back in and explored for another hour. Even after spending a good portion of the day there, we still didn’t hadn’t’ discovered all of the secrets within the labyrinth. Unfortunately, Santa Fe was forecasted to get a snowstorm that evening, so we wanted to leave before it hit. We didn’t quite get out in time, and had to drive through a little of the inclement weather until we were clear of the mountains. If you ask the kids, it was totally worth the extra time at Meow Wolf.

About Author

Hello, my name is Kayla, and I'm a registered nurse from the Midwest. My husband and I have celebrated 20 years of marriage and are parents to two children. Our eldest, who has special needs, faced challenges in a traditional school environment. After exhausting all our options to support him, we chose to take a year-long break from society. We sold our house and most belongings, purchased an RV, and set off on an adventure across the United States. This year of travel allowed us to grow both individually and as a family.

My son and I both grapple with ADHD. I was unaware of my condition until it was pointed out by my son's psychiatrist during our first meeting. The most significant challenge I face with ADHD is communication. In one-on-one interactions, I manage fairly well, but when I'm nervous, upset, or deeply engaged with the subject, my thoughts become muddled, and my speech turns into a jumbled mess. Adding to the complexity, I have an INFP personality type according to the Myers-Briggs chart, which means I often find myself nervous, upset, or deeply passionate. To deal with these communication hurdles, I tend to fall back on silence, keeping my thoughts to myself.

Blogging has reignited my passion for storytelling, with travel as my muse, and helped me find my voice. Despite the irony of being a storyteller who struggles with verbal communication, I've found my voice through travel blogging and newsletters. This has allowed me to express my true, authentic self—a goal that has long been elusive. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all my readers for giving me a platform to be unapologetically me.

I would love to have you follow along in our journey as we navigate RV life, homeschooling and discover amazing places across the country!
