This is such a a beautiful resort. I came up for a boat race on Labor Day weekend. The staff, from the office to security, where friendly and helpful. The resort itself is very clean and well kept and I had an amazing time. The lake is beautiful and the members friendly. Lots of activities for kids and adults alike. I stopped by the cafe and the food was delicious and the staff friendly. I would highly recommend this resort to people looking for a private, safe, familyfriendly place to camp. A beautiful resort and a beautiful community.

My family has had a membership here for as long as I can remember. I've dozens of irreplaceable happy core memories growing up, spending a great majority of my time at this resort, wherein I made friends and had the time of my life as a kid. That said, for a great deal of time this beloved campground fell into neglected disrepair and a shockingly degenerative downward spiral quality-wise that was previously unfathomable to ever consider possible. The hugely popular restaurant & bar?Turned into a library, of all things. The family arcade?Gone. Where it was, empty. The well-stocked gift & grocery shop?Overpriced, and all but empty. The kind, helpful staff?Replaced and now rude and pushy. And the fun, safe family environment? Replaced with vandalism, fights, out-of-control parties, and teens wreaking havoc. Several years ago, my parents' golf cart was stolen, and their new trailer in storage was all but devastated by this. Ransacked & Left full of used condoms, trash, cigarette burns, and drug paraphernalia. This awful experience was made worse as the staff made it all but impossible for any investigation or recoup of losses to happen all while my elderly father underwent chemotherapy. We were then bullied into several "meetings" that turned into sales pitches for upgrades in membership. That awful stuff said, after changing hands MANY times, new ownership, from what I've heard, has turned this incredible resort around and has started to rebuild its reputation and facilities. Doing everything they can to rebrand and rework things back into the heydays when Rainbow Lake was a fantastic summer just waiting to happen. My family has a long-standing generational membership, and my wife & I have decided to see if the good things we've heard are true by visiting this campground again. We have high hopes.Nothing would make us happier than for this place to become the favorite summertime campground of our young children, as it was for my wife & me.For now, I'm resetting my 10-year standing 1⭐ review to a base score of 4⭐⭐⭐⭐ and can't wait to see how much it's changed since our last, less than pleasant experience. Perhaps this fall or next summer, after my book signing tour, we will stay for a week? I'm actually excited, and I hope for the best.

This was our first year camping at Allegany Mountain Resort at Rainbow Lake. It was a great time. There are many things to do while camping. All the staff from front office to security to maintenance to store and café were more then friendly and helpful. Can not wait till next year.

We received 1 free week after purchasing our camper a year ago. We sat through the 90 minute presentation, the salesperson was kind but they offered a membership at first for $12,000. Then when we said that was too much they brought it down to $8,000. Then it ended up down to $6,000. We still could not afford that out of pocket and it seemed like they were desperate for us to purchase a membership. They did offer for us to do a monthly payment plan. It all was incredibly pushy and seemed very suspicious. After staying there for 5 days, I now know why. When they did the presentation it was during the off-season and took us on the tour, they only showed us the nice side and claimed the other side (where guests get their free spots) was being cleaned coming out of the "winter months".I called to reserve our 1 week (mind you this had to be 20 days in advance and no earlier) and the lady allowed us to do Monday through Friday as we are not allowed to book on a holiday weekend. We got there and were given the option of picking between a handful of sites. However, the security guy only then informed us that there were no sewer hookups, those were reserved for permanent sites (even if you are a member, you still don't get sewer unless you become permanent). They never told us this during the 90 minute presentation. The bath house was about 100 yards away down a dirt road, difficult to get to when it's pouring rain. It rained for 2-3 days while we camped which became quite a problem and very uncomfortable for myself and my children. They offer the honey wagon on Mondays and Thursdays, you do have to pay for it and it is $18. If you're a member you pay maintenance fees and still have to pay for the honey wagon. The bath house was clean when we started camping, then one of the toilets was broken when I went in on Thursday. A maintenance guy sprayed paint all over the walls and it was all over the floor so it got on my shoes. The bath house was very out of date. The 50 amp plug on the site was destroyed, not even sure how it passed code. We could only use the 30 amp. They have a pool and a hot tub but it all looks like it's from the 1980s, not upgraded. They claim it's the one thing their members absolutely love, I have no idea why. The showers in the pool room have no hot water, you can't take a shower there. They tell you they have a softball field but it's a giant field of grass with a small backstop. The food market, there's little to nothing there.I would say this is more for an older generation as there were many elderly driving around in golf carts. If you are young with kids it doesn't make sense to purchase. The area is nice and quiet but unless you are going there to literally do nothing, there's nothing there for you and the sites aren't worth it.There was no level site in this place, good luck leveling your camper! When we left because ours was so un-level and so poor, pulling out we bottomed out and almost ripped the rear support off of the back of the camper. Not to mention most of the permanent campers or trailers look like they are falling apart and are not maintained. They are terrible eye sores.I highly recommend getting a membership at Jellystone or a KOA. You'll always get water/sewer hookups and a ton of things to do for an inexpensive price. We've camped many times over the past year and a half and have never had a terrible experience. This is the first ever. Do not waste your money on this place, it's not worth it. Don't fall for the scam that they try to sell you on. You get nothing for what you pay for. They claim it is a "private resort" and that's why the price is what it is and members get so much, but they absolutely do not. Stay far away! I wouldn't go back even if they offered me a free week.
