When evaluating whether Camp Scuffy is the right choice for your needs, it is worth considering the heritage and specific focus of the facility. As a long-standing establishment in Airmont, it offers a sense of continuity for the community. Many local residents remember the facility from its peak years in the 1980s when it was considered a premiere day camp destination. This historical presence adds a layer of local character that newer, more commercialized campgrounds may lack.
One of the primary reasons to choose this location is its emphasis on accessibility. In the New York region, finding outdoor spaces that fully integrate wheelchair access into their restrooms, parking, and entrances can be a challenge. Camp Scuffy stands out by ensuring these fundamental needs are met, making it an inclusive choice for community events where diverse mobility needs must be considered. Furthermore, for parents seeking a location that is explicitly "good for kids," the presence of a dedicated playground and child-focused infrastructure provides a baseline of safety and entertainment that is highly valued.
The facility is best suited for those who appreciate a straightforward, traditional campground experience. It provides the essential elements—space, accessibility, and play areas—without the over-complication of high-end luxury resorts. This makes it a practical option for day trips, local youth outings, and families who live in the immediate Airmont or Monsey area. By focusing on the core aspects of the outdoor experience, Camp Scuffy remains a functional and accessible part of the Rockland County landscape.
Prospective visitors should always weigh the historical reputation and the provided amenities against their specific expectations for modern camp management. While the site provides excellent physical accessibility and a classic setting, it remains a traditional facility deeply rooted in the local Airmont geography. For those who prioritize a local, easy-to-access spot for children to play and for groups to gather in a shaded, green environment, Camp Scuffy provides a convenient and well-located solution right in the heart of the community.

Omg I was a camp kid at Scuffy in 1980! At the time, it was the premiere day camp. Very pretty and well maintained. However, I never cared for the place, lol. After a few weeks, I never returned.
It was the last year,my child went there, and I wont recommend it to no one.It was hot,but nobody’s care if your child is dehydrated.Bulling happened, staff was quiet!!!It happened to my child,to few kids of my friends, never again, and I am not surprised that people leaving this Camp!!!
I went there in 1958. I can't believe it is still there. We used to swim in the damed up Saddle River. There was no pool. Swimming was the main activity. It was well run and a lot of fun for us kids.
My Daughter LOVES Camp Scuffy. She comes home everyday with a smile on her face telling me about all of her daily activities.
The baseball fields are poorly maintained and prone to being waterlogged. The bathrooms are Porto John's that were lying on their side when I visited. The park is covered in geese excrement.
