Cooperstown KOA Journey Introduce
Cooperstown KOA Journey is a well-situated outdoor retreat located in the serene farm country of Central New York. Serving as a convenient basecamp for travelers exploring the historic Otsego County region, this campground specializes in providing a "Journey" experience—designed specifically for easy access and comfortable stays for those on the road. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, the park offers a peaceful rural atmosphere characterized by open fields and rolling hills. Whether you are a dedicated RVer, a tent camper, or a family looking for the comforts of a cabin, this facility provides a structured environment that allows guests to recharge after a day of sightseeing.
While the name prominently features Cooperstown, the park is actually located in Richfield Springs, offering a quiet, agrarian setting away from the bustle of the village center. This location is particularly popular during the summer months when baseball fans and youth teams descend upon the area. The campground is designed to be a functional and picturesque stopover, emphasizing ease of use for large rigs and providing the essential amenities required for a modern camping trip. From fiber-optic Wi-Fi to a dedicated dog park, the management focuses on the core needs of the traveling public while maintaining a classic New York country vibe.
The location and accessibility of Cooperstown KOA Journey are among its most practical assets. Situated at 565 Ostrander Road in Richfield Springs, NY, the campground is located just off US Highway 20, a historic route that stretches across the state. This positioning makes it an ideal "easy in / easy out" destination for travelers, including those driving 45-foot motor coaches or towing large trailers. The park is approximately 20 minutes from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and about 25 minutes from Cooperstown Dreams Park, making it a strategic choice for sports fans and families participating in summer tournaments.
For New York residents traveling from other parts of the state, the park is easily reached via several major routes. From the west, it is accessed via I-90 and State Route 28, while travelers from the east can utilize I-88 and US 20. The facility takes accessibility seriously, offering a wheelchair-accessible parking lot and restrooms to ensure that all guests can navigate the grounds comfortably. The sites themselves are generally level and well-spaced, with many pull-through options available to simplify the setup process for RV owners. The surrounding area is also rich with natural attractions, with Canadarago Lake and Otsego Lake just a short drive away for those interested in boating or championship fishing.

Customer Reviews
First off this is not located in Cooperstown. It’s roughly 20-30 mins away so keep that in mind. This location is very rural…farm country. We rented a dog friendly cabin. Upon arrival we could tell that the cabin just had a quick turnaround and a once over. The floors weren’t even swept. Tub had a huge stain. Cabin was small but as expected. No TV in the cabin. Bunks in the cabin are for kids only as there was no way an adult is fitting.Campgrounds:It’s a smaller campground. Nice views of the surrounding areas. Maintained decent and you can see they are adding improvements. Small playground area. Very small basketball court. Pickle ball court (was being painted). Didn’t use the public showers or public restrooms. Sites had shade and most seemed to be pull through. “Dog park” is just a fenced in area. They seemed very strict on the firewood and outdoor mats. No outside firewood (even with in the DEC rules) and we did see one person that had to pick up there mat. Firewood price was $7 for 7-8 pieces. Never seen or heard of any campground activity available. Never seen staff or at least any staff wearing KOA gear through out the day. Pool was closed during our stay also.
Not all KOAs are created equal, and unfortunately our stay at Cooperstown KOA left a lot to be desired. It was our first time at this location. We stayed only one night in one of the cabins. The cabin itself was clean enough upon arrival, but it lacked some basic essentials. There were no extra paper towels, no sponge for washing dishes, and the patio furniture was in rough shape — with some chairs broken or held together with zip ties. The double bed was extremely uncomfortable. It honestly felt like sleeping on hay bales propped up on toothpicks — not a good night’s rest at all. For the price, I expected better upkeep and attention to detail. The campground overall was just okay. What really stood out was how many activities were completely shut down, which made the place feel empty and uninviting. One of the reasons we book KOA is for the activities and sense of community, so this was a letdown.Staff presence was another issue. Aside from check-in, it was the one and only time we saw staff around. Usually KOAs have a welcoming, attentive staff presence that makes the stay enjoyable, but that was missing here.I can not get over how highly rated this location is. This location simply does not deserve a 4-5 star rating. Unfortunately, we won’t be back in the future and I can’t say that I can recommend Cooperstown KOA.
First impressions is a lot for any business.. with that being said most importantly I will go back if I can.. but when we first arrived to the KOA Kampground welcome offfice we seen a note written on a piece of paper no pets allowed in the store.. ok we can respect that.. but upon entering there is a cat laying in a basket.. and a bigger dog laying on the floor.. and the store was a hot mess.. and there area to walk to the counter was the same.. the check in lady was great.. but it wasn’t a great first impression.. we came back a few days later to see items in the store and it didn’t get picked up still a mess and there was dog food all over the floor we had to watch were we stepped so we wouldn’t smoosh it in the floor all I kept thinking was mice will love this..so in my opinion that needs to be addressed it’s the first line of impressions ppl see.The grounds themselves were decent being a KOA even a journey you have certain expectations.. we rarely go to a KOA due to the cost.. the WiFi was excellent best I have seen.. the water was good it’s a little hard but it was manageable I used my own water after the 2nd day for coffee..all staff were friendly that we encountered..
We spent a couple nights while visiting Basball Hall of Fame. It's about 20 minutes away from Cooperstown. This place was great for a getaway for sure. It is very isolated though there is a small town about 5 minutes away. Really quiet and really dark. Seemed well kept.
A great KOA with great value. Close to Cooperstown and Dreams Park but also close to the state parks in the area.I think the Kamping Kabins could be a little cleaner but nothing crazy just some cobwebs thats all. It is always a pleasure to stay here!
