Cross Rip Campground Introduce
For those who yearn for the nostalgic simplicity of summer vacations spent by the water, Cross Rip Campground in Deltaville, Virginia, offers a rare and beautiful escape. This coastal gem is often described by visitors as "stepping back in time," providing a serene environment where the distractions of modern technology fade away in favor of salt air, rustling trees, and the gentle lap of the Chesapeake Bay. Spanning nearly 30 acres of lush woods and open fields, the campground maintains a deliberate "old school" vibe—foregoing noisy water slides and concrete pools for the natural splendor of a private sandy beach and a freshwater pond. It is a destination specifically designed for decompression, where the primary schedule is dictated by the sunrise over the bay and the evening crickets.
The atmosphere at Cross Rip is one of warmth and community, fostered largely by the personal touch of its dedicated management. Under the care of owners Catherine and Rebecca, the park has maintained its reputation for being clean, quiet, and exceptionally welcoming. Whether you are an experienced RVer or a family setting up a tent for the first time, the staff goes out of their way to ensure every guest feels like part of the family. This commitment to hospitality, combined with the site’s breathtaking views of the water, makes it a favored retreat for Virginia locals who want to experience the authentic "Rivah" lifestyle without the crowds of larger, more commercial resorts.
Location and accessibility are among the campground's greatest assets. Nestled at 503 Cross Rip Rd, Deltaville, VA 23043, the property sits in the heart of the "Boating Capital of the Chesapeake." It is easily accessible for travelers coming from Richmond, Hampton Roads, or Northern Virginia, yet it feels entirely secluded once you turn down the lane toward the water. The campground is situated on the Middle Peninsula, a region celebrated for its maritime heritage and pristine waterways. For those navigating with larger rigs, the park is manageable for vehicles up to approximately 32 feet, though the wooded nature of the site provides a cozy, natural canopy that rewards careful maneuvering. Its proximity to the village of Deltaville means that local seafood markets, quaint shops, and maritime museums are just a short drive or bike ride away.

The features and highlights of Cross Rip Campground center on the natural assets of its 1,186 feet of shoreline. The private beach area is a focal point for families, providing a safe and scenic spot for swimming or launching small watercraft. Unlike many modern parks, Cross Rip encourages guests to engage directly with the environment. The fishing pier is a favorite for those hoping to catch croaker, spot, or striped bass, and it serves as a stunning vantage point for watching the sunrise. The park is also notably pet-friendly, offering a large open field where dogs can run and play, ensuring that every member of the family can enjoy the vacation.

For those ready to plan their coastal retreat, Cross Rip Campground can be reached directly at (804) 776-9324. The office is located at 503 Cross Rip Rd, Deltaville, VA 23043, USA. Because of its popularity and relatively small number of sites, it is highly recommended to call in advance for reservations, especially during the peak season from May through October. The management is known for being responsive and helpful, often providing tips on local fishing spots or the best nearby restaurants for a fresh seafood dinner.
What makes Cross Rip worth choosing is its unwavering commitment to the soul of camping. In a world increasingly filled with "glamping" and high-tech resorts, this campground preserves the quiet joy of a crackling fire and a view of the horizon. It is a place where kids can be kids—running in the fields, digging in the sand, and learning to fish—without the need for electronic entertainment. The owners’ hands-on approach ensures that the facilities remain pristine and that the atmosphere stays peaceful. When you choose Cross Rip, you aren't just renting a plot of land; you are securing a peaceful headspace in one of Virginia's most beautiful coastal settings.
Furthermore, the unique history of the property adds a layer of depth to the stay. Staying in a cottage that was once a working pilothouse on a Chesapeake steamer is an experience you won't find anywhere else. This connection to the region’s seafaring past, combined with modern necessities like clean showers and reliable electricity, makes for a perfectly balanced getaway. Whether you are looking for a weekend of intense fishing or a week of doing absolutely nothing but breathing in the bay air, Cross Rip Campground provides the ideal backdrop for a truly restorative Virginia vacation.

Like stepping back in time and camping with my grandparents! Cross Rip will not disappoint! From the rustic pier to the wildlife, the campground offers an opportunity to actually slow down, take a breath and decompress from the craziness of the world around us! Our kids laughed and had the best time from arrival til we hauled out, and all without any big water slides or concrete swimming holes!
Very nice place, has a great little beach area to get in the water, clean bath houses, communal dish washing station, nice pier for fishing!
Just pulled in today and this place is fricken awesome! To be able to open your camper door and see the ocean is the cherry on top! Both Catherine and Rebecca are some of the nicest people my fiance and I have met on the road. Catherine even stopped to help us with pulling our camper through because me and the future wife are very new to RV life. Looking forward to the next 4 weeks here! I implore you to come see this place for yourself. You'll feel right at home.
We found this gem and stayed for a whole week with 0 complaints. Such a sweet little campground, with plenty of added bonuses. The owner is very nice, the campground is WELL taken care of and each of the staff members work their tales off. Showers and bathrooms are very clean, and the beach area is VERY nice and upkept. The atmosphere is top notch and there is plenty of space between camping spots. Plenty of things to keep the kiddos busy, and I didn’t mind feeding the turtles myself!
This place is truly a gem. It's a smaller more intimate Campground with tent sites, rv sites, and cabins right on the Chesapeake Bay! Beautiful views, nice facilities, and even complementary veggies from the garden. They even had crab traps, canoes, kayaks, and bikes we could use! It's also a very dog friendly Campground which is nice! Loved the time we spent here and looking forward to our next trip!
