For Virginians seeking a multifaceted outdoor getaway that combines the rustic charm of riverfront camping with the recreational variety of a leisure center, Four Winds Campgrounds stands as a sprawling destination in the heart of Caroline County. Spanning over 300 acres of lush, wooded terrain nestled in a scenic bend of the Rappahannock River, this facility offers a unique "home away from home" atmosphere. It is widely recognized by local residents for its community-centric vibe, where long-term members and weekend visitors alike gather to enjoy the natural beauty of the Virginia countryside. Whether you are looking to cast a line in a quiet pond or participate in lively social events at a central pavilion, Four Winds provides a versatile backdrop for family memories.

The campground operates primarily as a private membership club but remains a focal point for the Rappahannock Academy community. It is designed to be a self-sufficient ecosystem of sorts, offering everything from on-site dining to specialized recreational zones. Local users often appreciate the transition from the busy corridors of Fredericksburg or Richmond to the quiet, shaded roads of the campground. As you enter the gates, the pace of life slows down, making it an ideal spot for those who want to immerse themselves in nature without sacrificing essential conveniences. From seasonal dances to weekend karaoke nights, the social calendar at Four Winds is crafted to foster connections among visitors of all ages.

Located at 2350 Skinkers Neck Rd, Rappahannock Academy, VA 22538, Four Winds Campgrounds is remarkably accessible for residents of Central and Northern Virginia. It is situated roughly midway between Fredericksburg and Tappahannock, making it a convenient escape for those traveling along the Route 17 or Route 301 corridors. The drive to the campground takes visitors through some of the most historic rural landscapes in the state, setting a peaceful tone before arrival. The entrance is designed to accommodate various vehicle types, ensuring that those pulling large RVs or trailers can navigate the transition from public roads to the campsite with ease.

Accessibility is a high priority at Four Winds, as evidenced by the inclusive infrastructure provided throughout the common areas. The facility features wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking lots, along with accessible restroom facilities, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the restaurant and leisure center. For local users, the availability of on-site parking and free street parking within the grounds adds a layer of convenience during high-traffic holiday weekends. The campground’s layout also supports low-impact exploration, with various paths that allow guests to move between the riverfront, the pool, and the residential loops with minimal effort.

  • Full RV Hookup Sites: Equipped with 30 and 50-amp electrical service, water, and options for sewer connections.
  • On-Site Dining: A family-style restaurant serving affordable and delicious meals, including popular weekend specials.
  • Marine and Fishing Access: Multiple access points to the Rappahannock River for kayaking and boating, plus on-site lakes and ponds for fishing.

The highlights of Four Winds Campgrounds are found in its diverse range of activities that cater to every member of the family. The Olympic-sized swimming pool is a major draw during the humid Virginia summers, providing a clean and refreshing center for social activity. For golf enthusiasts, the property boasts the oldest golf course in Caroline County, which is open to the public and offers a relaxed par-72 experience among the pines. The presence of three distinct water bodies—a lake, a pond, and the river—ensures that anglers have a variety of environments to choose from, with bass and other local species frequently caught throughout the season.

Children are especially well-served here, with a dedicated playground, basketball court, and kid-friendly hiking trails. The ability to rent golf carts for "cruising" around the campground adds a layer of fun and convenience that many families find indispensable. For those who enjoy the social side of camping, the pavilion events are legendary in the local area, featuring everything from holiday-themed "trunk or treats" to lively spring dances. This combination of traditional camping and modern recreational amenities makes it a unique hybrid in the Virginia camping market.

  • Olympic-Size Swimming Pool: A large, well-maintained pool that serves as the heart of summer recreation.
  • 18-Hole Golf Course: An affordable, public-access course that winds through the wooded terrain of the resort.
  • River and Lake Fishing: Diverse fishing opportunities ranging from riverbank spots to quiet, stocked ponds.

Four Winds is a great place to spend quality time with your friends and family. They have a lake, a pond, and a river that you can fish in they also have a restaurant that has delicious and very affordable food. There's a nice big pool And you can rent golf carts during your stay to cruise around the campground. In the spring and summer, they have dances at the pavilion which are always fun. It's a nice place to come relax and enjoy yourself

I been here for 8 years and the last 3years this place has went down hill. The board wants money but will not fix anything. My road has been messed up for 10 years or better. There is nothing for kids to do. The playground is small the pool is ok but could use some work. No wants to pay because they went from 1800.00 a year for one lot to 4000.00 a lot. If you live here it is 4900.00 a year. It would not be bad if they had something to offer

I’m a new lot owner of the campground and the community is supportive and very nice. A lot of improvements to the grounds are taking place. I own a lot off the lake and it’s just gorgeous and is a peaceful getaway.

Beware this is not a camping resort! It is a 500 acre rundown trailer park. Only has maybe a dozen sites for rv’s and not all of the have full hook ups. The entire RV area is infested with red ants! No fire rings or picnic tables on most of the sites. The 12x12 guard shack is also the camp store not much more than toothpaste and soda. Bath house was horrible not maintained at all. No real boat launch at the river or lake photos on web site were very carefully taken. Please do yourself a favor and pick another place to stay!

They keep what they own clean and everyone we meet was very friendly. However, there is an extreme over abundance of run down, over grown and abandoned campers everywhere. To be fair the broad members are making get strides in attempting to clean the place up and we hope they continue to do so. They do have fun activities too.
