French Creek SP PA Loop C Introduce
For residents of Pennsylvania looking for a premier outdoor retreat, French Creek SP PA Loop C offers one of the most versatile camping experiences in the Commonwealth. Situated within the sprawling 7,730-acre French Creek State Park, Loop C is widely regarded as the most feature-rich section of the family campground. This loop is specifically designed to accommodate a wide variety of campers, from those in large recreational vehicles requiring full utility hookups to traditional tent campers seeking a wooded escape. As the only loop in the park currently offering a significant number of full-service sites, it serves as a vital hub for visitors who want to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Schuylkill Highlands without sacrificing modern conveniences.
The atmosphere in Loop C is characterized by its welcoming, community-oriented feel. Unlike some of the more primitive sections of the park, this loop is bustling with activity year-round, as it is the only camping area at French Creek that remains open through December. For many local families, a trip to Loop C is a seasonal tradition, providing a front-row seat to the changing foliage of the Hopewell Big Woods or a quiet winter getaway. The loop is professionally managed and regularly patrolled, ensuring a safe environment where children can play and neighbors can gather around campfires. Its status as a pet-friendly loop also makes it a top choice for those who refuse to leave their four-legged family members behind.
Location and accessibility are major reasons why Pennsylvanians choose Loop C. Located in Douglassville, PA 19518, the campground is strategically positioned about 20 minutes from Reading and roughly one hour from both Philadelphia and Lancaster. Access is convenient via PA 345, which connects to major routes such as PA 23 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Morgantown exits 1A and 1B). For travelers with mobility concerns, Loop C is particularly well-equipped, offering several ADA-accessible sites with level, paved pads and close proximity to modern restroom facilities. The park features wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking lots, ensuring that the beauty of French Creek is available to everyone.
Accessibility within the loop is further enhanced by paved driveway surfaces, which help manage the mud and uneven terrain common in woodland settings. While the campground is situated on a ridge—meaning a vigorous uphill bike ride or walk is required when returning from the lake or pool—the internal roads of Loop C are well-maintained for vehicle traffic. On-site parking is provided at each site, and many of the pads are long enough to accommodate modern RVs with slide-outs. This blend of remote forest feel and logistical ease makes it an ideal spot for both quick weekend trips and extended stays.

What is worth choosing about French Creek SP PA Loop C is the exceptional balance it strikes between utility and nature. For the modern traveler, the availability of full-service sites means you can enjoy the "great outdoors" without the stress of managing water tanks or generators. For the traditionalist, the wooded lots and immediate access to over 35 miles of trails provide the authentic "Pennsylvania woods" experience. It is a location that caters to every generation; while parents appreciate the clean showers and excellent security, children can enjoy the on-site playground or the massive pool complex located just down the hill.
Furthermore, the value proposition for local residents is hard to beat. With a small daily fee for pool access and the ability to fish in two different lakes, a stay in Loop C provides a comprehensive vacation package at a fraction of the cost of a commercial resort. The "pet loop" status ensures you don't have to leave your dog at home, and the proximity to historic sites like Hopewell Furnace adds a cultural dimension to your trip. Whether you are looking for "kid-friendly hikes" or a challenging mountain bike ride, choosing Loop C puts you in the center of the best recreation southeastern Pennsylvania has to offer. It is a well-managed, clean, and engaging destination that truly feels like a home away from home.

Loop C has a dozen full-service sites (electric and water) and about a dozen more just electric sites. These are at the front of the loop.Loop C allows pets and has modern restrooms. There are several ADA accessible sites in this area. This section is open through December. For more information about French Creek watch my you tube video at: thePAparksman
Large and well managed state park close to Birdsboro, Reading, Douglasville and Morgantown PA. Only about 1 hour from Philly or Lancaster. The Park has 4 camping loops, A, B, C and D. Loops A & D have no hookups and shared water spigot. Loop B has a mix of electric only and no hookups with shared water spigots. Loop C has about 20 FHU sites and the rest are electric only or no hookups with shared water spigots. All sites are paved, some better than others. There are a range of site lengths to fit any RV and tent camping is popular here. Bathhouses are older but very clean, and showers are free. The campground is about 1 mile from Hopewell Lake where you can canoe, kayak and fish and there is a huge pool near the lake open in season. Pool costs $4 for campers and there's a small cafe and store at the pool. There are miles and miles of hiking trails and it's a good biking place but you will be biking uphill to return to the campground from either the lake or the pool. They also have yurts and cabins for rent. Security is excellent and the park is regularly patrolled. I've stayed here often and will return.
Campground is nice, bathrooms are horrible. Nothing done but trash emptied, showers plugged up and black water all over the floors. Looks like no one has cleaned them all year! Was the same earlier this year.
Beautiful, peaceful state park with large campsites, clean bathrooms, big showers, tons of trails, a huge swimming pool, a lake, boat rentals, and even a playground for the youngsters. Our site had a trail in back that connects with a larger trail and I noticed that other sites did as well. Loop C is pet friendly, our dog loved all the awesome smells and exploring the trails. We look forward to camping here again!
French Creek has nice camper/trailer facilities as well as tent sites. I’ve camped there several times and never been disappointed. Also: If you see one of these fellas, no fear please. It’s a harmless orb spider, it looks scary, but rarely agitates. (2nd photo for scale)
