Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road Introduce

Getaway Eastern Catskills Campground - Castle Road offers a unique and modern approach to the traditional camping experience. Situated in the heart of the Great Northern Catskills, this outpost provides a collection of thoughtfully designed tiny cabins that serve as a bridge between the rugged outdoors and contemporary comfort. For residents of the New York region looking to escape the relentless pace of city life, this campground represents a sanctuary of silence and simplicity. The "Getaway" philosophy encourages guests to lock away their phones, step away from their screens, and immerse themselves in the quiet rhythms of the forest. It is a destination where the focus is on reconnecting with nature, oneself, and one's companions in a setting that is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply calming.

The campground is set on a sprawling private woodland property, ensuring that each cabin feels like an isolated retreat rather than part of a crowded park. The architecture of the cabins—often referred to as "Postcard Cabins"—features large, signature picture windows that act as living frames for the surrounding oak, spruce, and pine trees. This design allows the beauty of the Catskill seasons to become the primary interior decor, whether it is the vibrant greens of summer, the fiery hues of autumn, or the pristine white of a mountain winter. The atmosphere is professional yet welcoming, catering to solo travelers seeking solitude, couples on a romantic retreat, and families looking for a manageable outdoor adventure with their children and dogs.

Location and accessibility are among the greatest draws of Getaway Eastern Catskills. Located at 282 Cairo Junction Road in Catskill, NY, the campground is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive from New York City, making it one of the most accessible mountain retreats for downstate residents. The route typically involves a scenic drive up the New York State Thruway, transitioning from the urban sprawl into the dramatic elevations of Greene County. For those who prefer public transit, the site is reachable via Amtrak to the Hudson station or the bus to nearby Catskill, followed by a short rideshare or taxi to the Castle Road entrance. Once on-site, the campground features well-maintained gravel roads and on-site parking at each individual cabin, ensuring that guests can easily transport their belongings from their vehicle to their doorstep.

  • Conveniently located just 2.5 hours from the New York City metropolitan area.
  • Easy access via major highways and proximity to regional transit hubs like Hudson, NY.
  • On-site parking provided at every cabin for maximum convenience and safety.
  • Accessible cabin options available, including features designed for guests with mobility needs.
  • Proximity to major Catskill attractions such as Kaaterskill Falls and North-South Lake.

The services offered at Getaway Eastern Catskills focus on "the essentials, elevated." Each cabin is a self-contained unit equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, removing the logistical hurdles of traditional tent camping. Guests do not need to worry about hauling heavy gear, as the cabins are temperature-controlled and include private bathrooms with hot showers. The service model is designed to be contactless, providing a seamless check-in and check-out process via digital codes, though a virtual front desk is always available via text to assist with any needs. This approach maintains the privacy of the guests while ensuring that professional support is never more than a message away.

  • Climate-controlled cabins featuring both heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort.
  • Private bathrooms in every unit, including a flushing toilet and a hot shower with provided towels and toiletries.
  • A fully equipped kitchenette with a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, sink, and basic cookware/dishes.
  • Pet-friendly accommodations where dogs are welcomed with specialized amenities like bowls and long leads.
  • Provision of "s'mores kits," firewood, and charcoal available for purchase to enhance the outdoor experience.
  • A cell phone lockbox in every cabin to encourage a true digital detox.
  • Payment options include major credit cards and debit cards for all booking and on-site fees.

Features and highlights of the Castle Road location extend into the rich landscape of the surrounding region. While the cabin itself provides a cozy "hygge" environment with a comfortable queen bed and a small library of books, the outdoor space is where the Catskills truly shine. Each site features its own private outdoor area with a fire pit and grilling grate, perfect for evening cookouts under the stars. The campground is also a prime base for world-class hiking; within a 30-minute drive, guests can reach the trailhead for Kaaterskill Falls—the highest cascading waterfall in New York—or the expansive trail network of the Catskill Forest Preserve. The mix of high-tech minimalist design and low-tech outdoor fun creates a balanced vacation that appeals to all ages.

  • Private outdoor fire pits with Adirondack chairs and a picnic table for every cabin.
  • Massive signature windows providing panoramic views of the forest directly from the bed.
  • Outdoor Suites available at select sites, featuring hammocks and enhanced lounge areas.
  • Kid-friendly environment with safe areas for play and nearby family attractions like Zoom Flume Water Park.
  • Direct access to scenic mountain landscapes and towering forests of the Northern Catskills.
  • Close proximity to the charming towns of Catskill and Hudson for local shopping and farm-to-table dining.

What is worth choosing about Getaway Eastern Catskills is the consistency and quality of the experience. Unlike traditional campgrounds where the quality of your stay can depend heavily on the weather or your gear, this facility guarantees a warm, dry, and insect-free environment to return to after a day on the trails. It is worth choosing for the "Instagram-worthy" aesthetics that don't sacrifice functional comfort, making it a perfect entry point for those who are curious about the outdoors but hesitant about primitive camping. The intentional lack of Wi-Fi is perhaps its most valuable feature, providing a rare opportunity for guests to actually "get away" and enjoy the sounds of the wind and the birds instead of notifications.

Furthermore, the location on Cairo Junction Road strikes an excellent balance between seclusion and convenience. You are far enough into the woods to feel the peace of the mountains, yet only seven minutes away from a grocery store and ten minutes from local breweries and art galleries. This makes it an ideal choice for a "stress-free" vacation where you can choose to be as active or as lazy as you wish. Whether you are roasting marshmallows over your private fire pit or watching the sunrise through the giant window, Getaway Eastern Catskills provides a memorable, high-quality retreat that remains a favorite for the New York camping community.

This is my second stay with Getaway House (stayed in NH prior). I really enjoyed this one more as there was significantly more things to do and see. I was placed in a handicap house that I did not want , so I did feel morally wrong. Besides that , the only things I disliked was that the screen door was not flush with the door frame so insects would crawl under the door if we left it open (wolf spiders, mosquitoes, moths) and the previous people SMOKED inside and outside the house. The inside smelled horrible of cigarettes and there were cigarette butts all around the fire pit. We had a good area away from people and faced the woods. It was pleasant driving (at most) 45 minutes away to do more hiking and see other towns in the vicinity. Absolutely would go back here again!

It’s really nice here, easily a 4-star review apart from the fact that staff were completely unresponsive via email/AirBnB. I emailed with a question prior to our arrival - no response. Sent another email as soon as we got there - no response. Absolutely zero responses for the entire time throughout our stay, despite an automated email encouraging us to get in touch if we had any questions!! What on Earth? Really bad customer service, which was a huge shame to experience.Otherwise, great place as long as you don’t mind some huge bugs sharing the cabin with you. The bugs were a little unnerving but the location is in the middle of the woods so it’s to be expected. Also, a bit tacky to charge for every single extra in the cabin. We brought our own food etc though so were fine.If you can somehow get the staff to respond to any questions you might have, or have none, then you’ll probably have a great time here for a night, but I don’t think I’d stay for more than one.

My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Getaway last week and didn't want to come home. The cabins at Catskills West were spread out so we had a lot of privacy. We loved how quiet it was.As we were walking around we noticed that not all cabins were built exactly the same. Just like a hotel, not all rooms are exactly the same, so don't be surprised if your cabin doesn't look exactly like what you saw on social media or even on Getaway's website. You do get that nice giant window looking out into the woods next to the bed, but you might not get a small window at the foot of your bed. We had an air conditioner there, but we had plenty of windows around the cabin. We usually go camping in the Fall, so this was a nice change to have our own private bathroom in our cabin. Our cabin was clean but there were big old webs on the ceiling sides and corners. It didn't bother us but I was surprised no one bothered to clean them. We were in the woods so I'm not complaining, but just letting others know so they're not surprised if they see it.The team at Getaway are super responsive, friendly, and helpful. Great customer service really made our trip a memorable getaway.TIP #1: The dry flush cartridge for the bathrooms are supposed to give you 15 flushes, but in our experience, sometimes we only had about 10. Flush conservatively. However, the staff changes the cartridge daily and there are portables to use near the entrance if needed.TIP #2: Our hot water tank only held 10 gallons of hot water before it is refilled, so keep that in mind when you are showering. It sounded like this varies between outposts, so if this is a concern, I suggest finding out ahead of time.TIP #3: Purchase their package deal for a more affordable stay. Their regular price is too expensive for what you get. We purchased 3 nights and had just enough time to hike a short trail to Kaaterskill falls, pick up fresh donuts from a nearby town, and just enjoy the cabin and our surroundings at a very slow pace. 2 nights would've felt rushed for us.I already recommended this place to all of my friends as we had a great experience. I am definitely coming back and will explore other outposts.
