Happy Days Campground Introduce

Happy Days Campground is a cherished, family-owned destination situated in the tranquil foothills of the Catskill Mountains. For over 50 years, this campground has served as a welcoming retreat for New Yorkers and travelers seeking a classic, rustic outdoor experience. Spanning 30 acres of unspoiled woodland, the property offers a nostalgic atmosphere where the scent of pine trees and the sound of local wildlife take center stage. It is particularly popular among those who appreciate a smaller, more intimate campground setting where personalized service and a community-oriented "vibe" are part of the daily routine.

The campground is widely recognized as a premier choice for music enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Its history is deeply intertwined with the cultural legacy of the region, providing a peaceful home base for those visiting the nearby historic sites of the 1969 Woodstock festival. The environment at Happy Days is designed to be stress-free and restorative, featuring spacious sites tucked under mature trees that provide ample shade during the warm New York summer months. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway to see a concert or an extended stay to explore the beauty of Sullivan County, this campground offers a authentic slice of the Catskills lifestyle.

Location and accessibility are standout features for Happy Days Campground. Located at 454 Horseshoe Lake Road in Swan Lake, NY, the facility is approximately 100 miles from New York City, making it a manageable two-hour drive for many residents. Its most notable geographic advantage is its proximity to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, which is located just four miles away. This close distance makes it one of the most convenient places to stay for concert-goers, with local taxi services and shuttle options often available to transport guests to and from the venue. The property features a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and the terrain is generally navigable, though it maintains its rustic, wooded character.

Services offered at Happy Days Campground are comprehensive, catering to a range of camping preferences from rugged tenting to full-service RVing. The owners are frequently praised for their hands-on approach and helpfulness, ensuring that every guest feels supported throughout their stay. The following services are provided to enhance the visitor experience:

  • Full RV hookups including electric (30-amp and 50-amp options), water, and sewer connections.
  • Spacious, shaded tent sites designed for those who prefer a more traditional camping experience.
  • On-site services and a camp store stocked with essentials like firewood ($7 per bundle) and ice.
  • Flexible payment options including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments for guest convenience.
  • On-site laundry and bathhouse facilities with consistent hot and cold water.
  • A dedicated dump station available for RV travelers to use before departure.
  • Regular groundskeeping to maintain the cleanliness of the sites and communal areas.

Features and highlights of the campground contribute to its reputation as a family-friendly and pet-friendly destination. The layout encourages outdoor activity and social interaction while still preserving private spaces for relaxation. Notable highlights include:

  • A dedicated playground and open spaces that make the campground particularly good for kids.
  • A recreation room (rec hall) featuring amenities like a ping pong table, pool table, piano, and tables for card games—perfect for rainy evenings.
  • Designated picnic areas and fire pits at every site, ideal for traditional outdoor dining and evening campfires.
  • Pet-friendly policies that allow dogs to join the family adventure (must be kept on a tether).
  • Wildlife viewing opportunities, with frequent sightings of deer and other local fauna throughout the 30-acre property.
  • Proximity to local attractions such as Lake Superior State Park, White Lake, and the Bethel Motor Speedway.
  • Close access to regional activities including fishing, boating, horseback riding, and hiking trails.

What is worth choosing about Happy Days Campground is the perfect balance of convenience and natural beauty. For concert-goers at Bethel Woods, the location is essentially unbeatable, allowing you to enjoy a world-class performance and be back at your quiet campfire in just minutes. Choosing this campground means opting for a "small-town" feel where the owners are likely to greet you by name and assist you with backing your rig into a site. The mature pine forest provides a natural cooling effect and a fresh, clean scent that immediately signals you are far from the city's exhaust.

Additionally, the variety of site options—from rustic tent spots to full-service RV pads—makes it an accessible choice for different budgets and equipment levels. The inclusion of a recreation hall provides a much-needed "indoor" break for families with children, ensuring the trip is enjoyable regardless of the weather. For those who value a quiet, safe, and clean environment that respects the historic character of the Catskills, Happy Days Campground remains a top-tier choice. It is a place that lives up to its name, providing a cheerful and restorative backdrop for a classic New York summer vacation.

Owner was very nice and helpful! Campground was small which was nice, you don't have to walk far to go to the bathroom. The bathrooms were in great condition every day and the hot and cold water worked great! There was also a recreation room with some tables, chairs and a ping pong which was a nice break from the evening it rained. We would camp here again!

We stayed here after a concert at Bethel Woods- 10/10 for location to the concert venue, ease of check-in and the campsite itself! The downside was the bathrooms - they were very far from our site, not super clean (and bad lighting/ lightbulbs out, so you couldn’t see what you were getting yourself into lol) and only had one tiny sink. For one night it was absolutely fine, but any longer than that and it would’ve gotten frustrating. That said, we would definitely return if needed, and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a spot to stay after a concert at Bethel Woods!

A nice small, quiet campground for a reasonable price. A few miles away from modern amenities, but close enough that you won't spend all day in the car if you need to restock supplies. Notable for being a ten minute drive from Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (which is on property originally associated with the Woodstock Music Festival).

This is a wonderful campground! It's close to bethel woods for live music. It's not too far from a nice little town with a couple good restaurants and an amazing ice cream shop (Sticky fingers ice cream) and nestled in some beautiful woods. You can tell the owner takes pride in it by how well it's taken care of. 10/10
