James Creek RV Resort Introduce
James Creek RV Resort, currently managed under the RJourney brand, stands as a prominent outdoor destination in the heart of central Pennsylvania. Specifically designed to cater to the diverse needs of modern campers, this resort offers a structured environment for those who seek to balance the ruggedness of nature with the comforts of a developed vacation spot. For residents and visitors in the Pennsylvania region, this park serves as a strategic basecamp for exploring the vast recreational opportunities of Huntingdon County. Whether you are navigating a large motorhome or looking for a cozy cabin rental, the resort provides an organized setting that emphasizes accessibility to one of the state’s most beloved natural landmarks.
The resort is widely recognized for its proximity to Raystown Lake, the largest lake entirely within the borders of Pennsylvania. This positioning makes it a hub for aquatic enthusiasts, anglers, and families who want to spend their days on the water and their evenings in a social, community-focused environment. James Creek RV Resort is more than just a place to park; it is a full-scale facility that hosts various types of campers, including those on short-term fishing trips and seasonal guests who choose to spend their entire summers in the rolling hills of the Alleghenies. The atmosphere is one of active recreation, where the sounds of the playground and the sights of boat trailers are part of the daily rhythm.
Location is perhaps the resort’s strongest asset. Situated at 2016 Pioneer Family Ln, James Creek, PA 16657, it is nestled just west of the Raystown Lake shoreline. For local Pennsylvanians, the resort is highly accessible, located approximately 35 minutes from Altoona and about an hour from State College. Access to the resort is via Raystown Road, with the entrance located on Pioneer Family Lane, directly across from the local Bear Creek RV dealer. This makes the resort easy to find for those hauling large rigs who want to avoid narrow or overly winding backroads before reaching their destination.
Accessibility at James Creek RV Resort is comprehensive, ensuring that all guests can enjoy the facilities. The resort has invested in infrastructure that meets the needs of travelers with mobility challenges, providing paved or well-packed surfaces in key common areas. From the welcome center to the recreational hubs, the layout is designed to be navigable and welcoming to everyone in the camping community.
- Wheelchair accessible entrance at the main office and welcome center.
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot with designated spaces for easy check-in and access to amenities.
- Wheelchair accessible restrooms and shower facilities maintained for guest convenience.
- Wheelchair accessible seating areas within the resort’s common spaces and pavilions.
- Proximity to major routes like PA-26, facilitating easy travel for visitors from the Harrisburg or Pittsburgh regions.
- On-site parking available for guest vehicles and boat trailers, reducing congestion near individual campsites.
The services offered at James Creek RV Resort are designed to provide a "turn-key" camping experience. Recognizing that modern RVers require more than just a patch of grass, the resort provides full utility support across a wide range of its sites. The goal is to allow guests to spend less time on logistics and more time enjoying the natural surroundings. Additionally, the resort operates as a cabin rental agency, offering lodging solutions for those who do not own an RV but still want to enjoy the resort lifestyle.
- Full RV hookups including electric (30-amp and 50-amp service), water, and sewer connections.
- A variety of site types, including large pull-through spaces that are big-rig friendly.
- Onsite services such as a camp store for essentials, ice, and firewood.
- Laundry facilities available for guests, essential for longer stays or families with active children.
- Public Wi-Fi access available at most sites to keep guests connected during their stay.
- Professional management and onsite staff to assist with reservations and park rules.
- Convenient payment options accepting major credit cards, debit cards, and standard camping fees.
Features and highlights at the resort focus on family-friendly fun and outdoor engagement. The facility is equipped with several recreational installations that ensure there is something for every age group to do without ever leaving the property. Because it is a pet-friendly location, these features often extend to the four-legged members of the family as well, fostering a welcoming environment for dog owners. The resort also hosts scheduled events during the peak season, such as the "Spring Extravaganza" and "Welcome Back" socials, which help build a sense of community among guests.
- A heated outdoor swimming pool, perfect for relaxing after a day of hiking or boating.
- Dedicated playground area for children featuring modern equipment and safe surfaces.
- Sports courts including basketball and volleyball for active group recreation.
- On-site fishing opportunities and proximity to the world-class fishing at Raystown Lake.
- Themed weekend events and community fireside gatherings at the central pavilion.
- Pet-friendly policies that allow dogs, provided they are kept on a leash and managed responsibly.
- Access to nearby hiking trails in Trough Creek State Park and the hills surrounding James Creek.
- Mini-golf course and a clubhouse for indoor entertainment and social mixing.
For those looking to secure a spot for the upcoming season or to inquire about seasonal site availability, the resort can be reached through several direct channels. It is important to note that since the management transition to the RJourney brand, communication is primarily handled through their centralized systems, and early booking for holiday weekends is strongly encouraged.

James Creek RV Resort is worth choosing because it provides an entry point to the "Raystown Experience" that is both convenient and amenity-rich. For many Pennsylvania families, the draw of the lake is undeniable, but the logistics of boat launches and finding a level site can be daunting. By choosing this resort, you are opting for a managed environment where the basic needs of water, power, and waste are already taken care of. The resort’s commitment to providing a variety of stay types—from primitive tent sites to fully equipped cabins—means that you can bring along friends and family who may have different levels of camping experience.
Furthermore, the resort is a practical choice for those who value proximity to the lake without the higher price tag of direct waterfront properties. You are just minutes away from Tatum Run Beach and several public boat launches, yet you have the benefit of a private, gated community to return to in the evening. While the park has undergone management changes in recent years that have introduced new fee structures and rules, it remains one of the most developed options in the immediate James Creek area. If you are looking for a place where your children can run safely on a playground, where your dog is welcome, and where you are surrounded by the incredible beauty of the Pennsylvania Alleghenies, James Creek RV Resort offers a comprehensive and reliable vacation destination.

Customer Reviews
So disappointed in the corporation that owns this campground. They made so many terrible changes the beginning of September 2025 that we decided to pack up and leave the campground. We loved our site, our neighbors and had put tons of work into making our site just the way we wanted it. Every time that we called to get clarification on the changes that were made we would get different answers or no answers. So many calls to the regional manager that were never returned. We are currently being charged for the site that we no longer occupy. Someone else is actually on the site and we are still being charged. Their communication is absurdly ridiculous! There is no communication. We actually found out about the new changes and rate increases on their Facebook page, we did not receive an email until days after the Facebook post. Not very professional to post on Facebook before you inform your current residents. And within the last month or so they raised another one of their “fees” for their campers! I currently have a bill for $618.45 and I am no longer there. I pray for the campers that haven’t left that it gets better but it does not look like it is moving in that direction. We will be contacting the local magistrate to get this resolved.
We have loved this campground for years. Since Rjourney has taken over they have raised rates every year significantly while simultaneously lowering their operational standards. Less things to do. Less offered for more cost. And you literally can get ZERO information from anyone. From the manager to cooperate themselves. Empty phone calls. Emails with no response. All as we sit here with new rules on how to pay and price increases that we cannot get answers for. No list of improvements that are coming along with the increased costs. They will even mark trees for trimming or removal and then never touch them and we ended up with multiple branches perforating our camper roof and one hitting our gazebo. But don’t dare question anything as they threaten to kick you out. All we ask for is communication.
This corporate-run campground has become a complete disappointment. Amenities are no longer managed by staff but by paying campers who volunteer their time to mow the grass, clean bathrooms, and do basic upkeep. Mini golf has been closed all season. Bathhouses are often filthy and only clean when a volunteer steps in — hot water is hit or miss. The pool isn’t heated, the horseshoes they advertise were removed, and the entertainment (bands, DJs, bingo) is funded by residents, not the corporation.Since RJourney purchased the property, morale, amenities, and overall maintenance have collapsed. Corporate management (not the local staff) even threatens to evict those who dare to complain. One playground is overrun with weeds, attracting snakes — two rattlesnakes were found this season. The other playground has needed new sand for over two years. What was once a welcoming community of vacationing families has turned into a rundown, overpriced mess. Longtime renters — some here for 20+ years — are being forced out if they can’t afford sudden quarterly rent payments instead of monthly. With less than 30 days notice long time campers have been told that the campground will be closing for six months a year. This has been a a campground where residents could enjoy year round camping for 20+ years. With no notice this places many in predicaments. The cost increases yet access is being cut in half.Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere. There are far better campgrounds in the area, even if you have to wait for a spot
Lack of communication!! Unprofessional!! We've been a permanent camper for 5 years with year round access and bathhouse. We found out today, 9/30, from fellow campers, that our campground is closing for the winter, effective 10/15!!! We still have not received any notification from the company (although I called and confirmed this is accurate information). It is very disheartening that a business would treat their long term tenants with such little disregard! From management to upper corporation, it is a very poorly run organization!
This is a campground for seasonal campers. They do not cater to overnight stops. They were surprised when we requested a campground map. They had none printed to hand out, and we were called transients when we checked in. They had wifi throughout the campground, for which they did not give us a password. It's probably noted on the unprinted campground map. Cell coverage is spotty. Finally, they had 2 trucks parked next to their dump station, which made it impossible for us to dump before we left. Just thoughtless behavior. This is not a resort as the name implies. The one positive is that we had a level site. We suggest you avoid this campground if you're passing through.
