Shy Beaver RV Park Introduce
For outdoor enthusiasts in Pennsylvania, finding a reliable and peaceful home base near the water is the key to a successful summer. Shy Beaver RV Park, located in the scenic hills of James Creek, offers exactly that. As a family-owned and operated destination, this campground provides a welcoming atmosphere that balances the rugged beauty of the Central Pennsylvania wilderness with the practical amenities required for a comfortable stay. Whether you are a long-term seasonal resident or a weekend traveler looking to explore the majestic Raystown Lake, the park serves as a premier launching point for all your outdoor pursuits.
The park has earned a reputation among local campers for its tranquil environment and shaded lots. Under the dedicated management of the Foltz family, Shy Beaver RV Park has seen a renewed focus on community and guest experience. Long-time visitors often remark on the "amazing memories" created within the park, highlighting the friendly interaction between the owners and the camping community. This personal touch makes the park feel less like a commercial facility and more like a neighborhood, where returning every spring feels like a homecoming for many Pennsylvania families.
Located at 1529 Shy Beaver Rd, James Creek, PA 16657, the campground is strategically positioned for water lovers. It is situated just one mile from the Shy Beaver Boat Launch on Raystown Lake, the largest lake entirely within the borders of Pennsylvania. This proximity allows guests to be on the water within minutes, whether they are interested in high-speed boating, peaceful kayaking, or searching for the lake's famous striped bass and muskellunge. The drive to the park is a scenic journey through Huntingdon County, easily accessible from major routes while remaining tucked away from the noise of heavy traffic.
Accessibility is a priority at the park, which features a wheelchair-accessible parking lot to accommodate all visitors. The layout of the grounds is designed to be navigable for a variety of RV sizes, and the inclusion of on-site parking at each lot ensures that your vehicle and gear are always within reach. The surrounding area is a haven for those who enjoy the "ridge and valley" topography of the region, providing plenty of shade from mature trees that keep the campsites cool even during the peak of a Pennsylvania July.
The services offered at Shy Beaver RV Park are designed to cater to the needs of modern campers while maintaining a focus on the natural environment. The park specializes in seasonal sites, allowing families to set up their "summer homes" and enjoy the facility from mid-April through late October. However, daily sites are also available for those passing through or planning a shorter vacation. The service model includes on-site assistance and a variety of hookup options to ensure a seamless experience. Key services include:
- Full RV camping accommodations with dedicated electric, water, and sewer hookups.
- Seasonal RV site leasing that allows for year-round camper storage and usage during the active season.
- Cozy cabin and camper rentals for guests who do not have their own rig but want the campground experience.
- On-site indoor and outdoor boat storage, providing a secure place for your watercraft between trips.

- Regularly maintained public restrooms and showering facilities for all guests.
- Running water and potable water stations throughout the park.
- On-site assistance from the owners to help with site leveling or general inquiries.
The features and highlights of the park are centered on family-friendly recreation and the preservation of a peaceful camping culture. Children are a major focus here, with a dedicated playground featuring slides and swings where they can burn off energy and meet new friends. For those who enjoy active exploration, the park offers hiking and walking trails that wind through the wooded property and provide a chance to spot local wildlife. The sense of community is further enhanced by occasional special events and the availability of communal spaces for grilling and social gatherings.
- Wooded, shaded sites that offer relief from the sun and a sense of privacy.
- A family-friendly playground area that is highly rated as "good for kids."

What is worth choosing about Shy Beaver RV Park is the combination of its prime location and its community-driven management. While many campgrounds near Raystown Lake can become overcrowded and loud, this park prides itself on being a "serene and welcoming environment." It is worth choosing for families who want a safe, kid-friendly place where their children can play freely. It is also an excellent choice for boaters who want the convenience of being just minutes from the launch while having a secure place to store their boat on-site. The presence of the Foltz family as owners ensures that the park is well-maintained and that issues are handled with a personal touch.
Furthermore, the variety of lodging options makes it a versatile choice. If you have friends or family who don't own an RV, the ability to rent a cabin or a park-owned camper means everyone can participate in the memories. While campers should be aware of the standard non-refundable deposit policies common in the industry, the high rate of returning seasonal guests speaks to the overall quality and value of the experience. Choosing Shy Beaver RV Park means choosing a classic Pennsylvania camping experience where the focus is on the beauty of nature, the thrill of the lake, and the joy of spending time with loved ones. Would you like me to find the specific dates for the boat launch opening this season?

I was going to take my family here over Labor Day weekend. I sent a $60 deposit but our plans changed. I emailed two weeks prior to our reservation requesting a refund but the park never bothered to respond. There was nothing in the info they sent me about a non-refundable deposit. I guess I won't be trying this campground ever again.
Our family has been through the past 3 owners here. The Foltz have been the best! We look forward to our open season every year. We have so many amazing memories that we've been able to share with so many of our friends and family ❤️ having the cabin and camper rentals is great, so we can have more people share our experiences and memories. Thank you Chris and Don!
The best campground at Raystown Lake! If I could give 10 stars I would. We absolutely love the peaceful scenery and amazing accommodations at this campground. Highly recommend for your next camping trip!
We love our new camper site the deck is so big we enjoy sitting out on it. The owners are so nice also!
Stopped in the other day to see a friend of mine and made my through the campground and finally found his site and wasn't long here come the course Marshall flying in on his golf cart he clocked me going 6.2 mph in a 5 mph zone. He asked me if I could read or if i had kids or dogs pretty much belittle me with every word coming out of his mouth. Must be a Biden supporter.
