Lums Pond State Park Campground Entrance. Introduce
Lums Pond State Park Campground Entrance serves as the gateway to one of Delaware’s most cherished natural treasures. Nestled around the state's largest freshwater pond, this destination is a favorite for local residents in Bear and across the First State. The campground offers a seamless blend of outdoor adventure and modern convenience, making it a staple for families, solo travelers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Whether you are looking for a quiet weekend in the woods or an action-packed getaway, this facility provides a professional and friendly environment designed to help you reconnect with nature.
The park itself spans over 1,700 acres of hardwood forests and wetlands, centered on the 200-acre Lums Pond. For Delawareans, it is widely regarded as a "gem" within the state park system due to its high maintenance standards and the sheer variety of ecosystems present on-site. From the winding trails through mature oak trees to the shimmering water of the pond, the setting is both tranquil and inspiring. It is a place where you can watch an osprey dive for fish in the morning and enjoy a community campfire by sunset.
Location and accessibility are among the top reasons locals choose this spot. Situated at 3488-3598 Red Lion Road in Bear, DE, the campground is remarkably easy to reach from major transit routes like I-95 and Route 1. This makes it a perfect "staycation" spot for those in New Castle County or a convenient stop for those traveling through the region. The facility is committed to inclusivity, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible parking lots, and specialized restroom facilities. This ensures that every visitor, regardless of mobility, can enjoy the beauty of the Delaware landscape.

When considering why Lums Pond is worth choosing, the answer lies in its unique balance of "wild" and "well-cared-for." Local campers often remark that it is the nicest state park campground they have ever stayed at, citing the spacious, level, and paved sites that provide plenty of room to spread out. Customer Reviews
We spent a long weekend with family at Lums Pond State Park Campground and so glad we did. We paid $46 per night plus fees for a FHU 50 Amp Back-in site (#56). This place is a gem, even among nice state parks.THINGS I LIKED:- Easy access from I-95- Beautiful park setting with fantastic site — spacious, level, good-working hookups, and paved- Friendly and helpful staff- Great state park with lots to do (kayaking, biking, and more)THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:- There’s nothing we didn’t like about this placeWOULD WE COME BACK?- Absolutely, this is a nice place with plenty to do
This is by far the nicest campsite in a state park we have every stayed at, and among the nicest campsites we have ever stayed at, period. The campground is beautiful, with plenty of green space, walking trails, a camp store, spotless bathrooms and showers, a playground, a laundry, and of course, Lums Pond.It is worth going out of your way to stay at.We actually stayed here twice this summer, once on our way north, and then on our way back south, so I have included both sites.Site 69. Back-in, asphalt, FHU, 50/30/20. Yes, 50 amp, water, and sewer, in a state park! 4” sewer with metal step cover. Pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground. Good water pressure. Picnic table, fire ring. Lovely campsite with mature trees. Generous spacing between sites. So generous that when I tried to take a photo showing the sites on either side, even after walking across the road and using the wide angle lens on the phone, I couldn't get them both in the photo. The site does slope toward the front and toward the right slightly, so I did put a couple of rubber blocks under each front tire, but then was able to auto-level. I might have been able to just auto-level without the blocks, but it was easy enough to use them just to avoid the hassle.Site 23, back-in, FHU, 50/30/20. Yes, 50 amp, water, and sewer, in a state park! 4” sewer with metal step cover. Pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground. Good water pressure. Picnic table, fire ring. Lovely campsite with mature trees. Generous spacing between sites. The site does slope toward the back and toward the right, so I did need to put a board under each rear tire, but then was able to auto-level. The pond is just a short walk along a path through the woods behind the campsite. The laundry has three washing machines and four clothes dryers. Washers are 1.75 per load, the dryers are $1.50 per load.Verizon 2 bars LTE, 27.1 Mbps down, 0.72 Mbps upAT&T: 17.68 Mbps down, 2.14 Mbps upLots of OTA TV, all nice and clear. CBS and NBC, but no ABC or PBS.This is definitely a park / campground that we would return to, even if it meant going out of our way.
Lum’s Pond is a lovely, peaceful campground and we really enjoyed our brief stay. The site was level and hookups worked as they should. We had several interactions with staff and campground hosts and all were very favorable. Really nice people who take pride in their work. The little store is nicely stocked and very convenient. We were unable to have a campfire due to a prolonged drought and state fire ban, which made total sense with all the dried leaves. We would definitely return to this campground in the beautiful state of Delaware.
Unmatched! I haven’t been camping in a while, but this camp ground is better than any I’ve been to. The bathrooms and showers were spotless, regardless of what time of day we used them. The grounds were clean and organized. All areas were labeled and easy to access. I loved the drive up to site parking. Easy to load and unload. SUPER INEXPENSIVE! Lots of fun things to do!We’ll be back this week!!!
Wow extremely impressed. Campground has tons of space!! Each site is unique and very big. Bathrooms are probably the nicest I've seen camping. Gorgeous main bathrooms with 4 to 5 separate family style bathrooms with showers. Store was stocked full of goodies. Scenic bike trails are fun and challenging. Had a blast and can't wait to go back.
