North River Campsite (SRTA) Introduce

North River Campsite (SRTA) serves as a vital resting point and recreational haven for outdoor enthusiasts exploring the Middle Susquehanna River region. Located within the scenic bounds of Halifax Township, Pennsylvania, this campground is part of a broader network of primitive sites managed in cooperation with the Susquehanna River Trail Association (SRTA). Designed specifically to cater to those navigating the Susquehanna River Water Trail, the campsite provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the river corridor. It is a destination where the gentle sounds of flowing water and the rustle of riverside sycamores replace the noise of modern life, offering a truly authentic Pennsylvania wilderness experience.

The campground is a testament to the "leave no trace" philosophy, maintaining a low-impact presence that preserves the ecological integrity of the Susquehanna riverfront. While many modern campgrounds focus on high-density RV parking and extensive amenities, North River Campsite prioritizes the primitive connection between the camper and the landscape. It has become a favored spot for local kayakers and canoeists who spend their days floating the river's middle section, providing them with a safe and legal place to pitch a tent and enjoy a night under the stars. Its association with the SRTA ensures that the site remains part of a well-maintained trail system that promotes stewardship of one of the oldest rivers in the world.

Situated in Halifax Township, PA 17032, the campsite occupies a strategic position along the eastern bank of the Susquehanna River. This location is particularly convenient for travelers navigating the PA-147 corridor, which runs parallel to the river. Accessibility is one of the site's strongest attributes; while it feels secluded and remote, it is located not far from the main road, making it an ideal choice for those who want a wilderness feel without an arduous hike or a long-distance trek from their vehicle. The entrance is designed to be accessible for local users, offering a straightforward transition from the road to the river's edge.

For those arriving by water, the campsite is a prominent feature of the Susquehanna River Water Trail's middle section. It serves as an excellent midpoint for trips originating in Sunbury or Millersburg and heading toward Harrisburg. The proximity to the town of Halifax means that campers are never too far from local supplies if needed, yet the site itself is shielded by the natural topography and vegetation of the riverbank. This balance of convenience and natural isolation makes North River Campsite a premier choice for both seasoned river rats and families looking for an accessible introduction to riverside camping in Dauphin County.

Great Camping Spot. Kayaked down the river and camped out at this spot. Not far from the road so it's very convenient.
