North Shore Woods Introduce
North Shore Woods is a hidden gem nestled in the rural landscape of Voluntown, Connecticut, offering a quintessential New England outdoor experience. For residents and visitors in the Connecticut region, this family-owned resort has been a staple of lakeside vacations since 1964. Situated directly on the shores of Beach Pond, the property spans seven acres of heavily wooded land, providing a sanctuary for those looking to unplug and reconnect with nature. Whether you are seeking the simplicity of a tent site, the convenience of an RV hookup, or the cozy charm of a lakeside cabin, North Shore Woods offers a diverse range of accommodations tailored to the modern camper's needs.
The atmosphere at North Shore Woods is one of peaceful retreat. Unlike larger, more commercialized parks, this location prides itself on a personal touch and a quiet, respectful environment. The property is divided into an upper section, which serves as a non-profit equine retirement facility, and a lower section where the camping and lodging facilities are located. This unique setup allows guests to enjoy the presence of horses and the beauty of a working landscape while having direct access to 375 feet of private waterfront. It is a place where the sounds of the forest—owls hooting and foxes yipping—replace the hum of city life, making it a favorite for Connecticut families and nature enthusiasts alike.
Location and accessibility are key components of the North Shore Woods experience. Located at 168 N Shore Rd, Voluntown, CT 06384, the campground is tucked away in the eastern part of the state, near the Rhode Island border. This positioning makes it an ideal base for exploring the vast Pachaug State Forest, which covers much of the surrounding town. Despite its secluded feel, the park is accessible via local routes that connect to major Connecticut thoroughfares. For local users, the drive into Voluntown offers a scenic transition into the "Quiet Corner" of the state. Once on-site, guests benefit from on-site parking, ensuring that unloading gear for a weekend at the lake is convenient and stress-free.
The waterfront at Beach Pond is undoubtedly the centerpiece of the property. The crystal-clear waters of the pond are perfect for a variety of activities, from early morning swims to sunset paddles. Guests at North Shore Woods enjoy free use of a private beach area and a fleet of watercraft, including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. One of the most distinctive highlights is the "Moby Duck" pedal boat, a favorite for families with children. The lake is also well-regarded for fishing, and it is not uncommon to see local anglers trolling the waters in search of a catch. The combination of forest and water ensures that every season, from the vibrant foliage of fall to the crisp sunrises of summer, offers a new perspective on the Connecticut outdoors.

What is worth choosing when it comes to North Shore Woods is the unique blend of historic charm and modern amenities. The cabins on the property, such as the 1920s-era Vinola or the student-built Ellis cabin, have been meticulously remodeled to offer "cozy-clean" interiors while retaining their vintage summer camp feel. These rentals provide a level of comfort—including full kitchens, heating, and linens—that makes them accessible for those who may not be ready for traditional tent camping. The addition of the Finnish sauna provides a luxury touch that is rare for local campgrounds, offering a relaxing way to soothe muscles after a long day of hiking the state forest trails.
The dedication of the hosts, Angela and Chris, is another factor that makes this destination stand out. As a family-run operation that has spanned generations, there is a palpable pride in the property and a genuine welcome for every guest. The community aspect of North Shore Woods is strong, with many residents returning year after year to enjoy the peaceful lakeside lifestyle. The focus on preserving the natural environment while providing high-quality vacation opportunities ensures that North Shore Woods remains a premier choice for Connecticut residents seeking a high-value, authentic retreat. Whether you are plunging into the lake for a winter dip or roasting s'mores by a summer fire, North Shore Woods delivers a memorable experience in the heart of the woods.

Customer Reviews
I stayed at the Amanita tiny house for a beautiful fall weekend. We were originally going to do a day trip up to Mass, but ended up staying on site because we didn’t want to waste the amazing location and activities. We had a super fun and simple kayak around the lake where we got to take in the fall foliage. We even took advantage of the cute peddle boat, Moby Duck, and had a campfire right on the water as the sunset. You can’t beat the sunrise view right out the window from your bed. All amenities were comfortable and convenient. Would love to stay here again!
I have family near Voluntown and North Shore Woods is my first choice for a place to stay. Angela is terrific and a great host. I have rented both the Vinola and Ellis cabins. They are clean and cozy and being near the pond is so peaceful. I highly recommend North Shore Woods.
Excellent cottages, hosts, property, and lake. Our family always enjoys our time at North Shore, as did our guests from Finland. Highly recommend!
Wow wow what an absolute gem in the woods!
