Oak Embers Campground Introduce
For those of us living in the Ocean State, finding a getaway that feels like a true escape without the long drive is a local priority. Oak Embers Campground, located in the rustic landscapes of West Greenwich, Rhode Island, has served as a cornerstone for local outdoor enthusiasts for years. Nestled in a heavily wooded area characterized by rolling hills and natural tranquility, this campground offers a classic New England camping experience. Whether you are a seasonal camper who returns every year or a family looking for a weekend under the stars, Oak Embers provides a community-focused environment that embraces the spirit of the Rhode Island wilderness.
As a family-oriented destination, the campground is designed to balance the ruggedness of nature with the practical needs of modern campers. It is particularly well-regarded among local organizations and large groups for its ability to host significant events, fostering a sense of camaraderie between transient visitors and the dedicated "yearly" residents. From the sound of children playing at the playground to the social gatherings around a shared fire pit, the atmosphere here is one of inclusion and traditional outdoor fun. It is a place where memories are made over toasted marshmallows and long summer afternoons spent by the pool.
Location and accessibility are major advantages for Rhode Islanders choosing Oak Embers. Situated at 219 Escoheag Hill Rd, West Greenwich, RI 02817, the campground is conveniently located just a short distance from major thoroughfares like I-95. This makes it a prime spot for residents coming from Providence, which is only about a 30-minute drive away, or South County locals looking for a change of scenery. Its most notable geographic feature is its proximity to the Arcadia Management Area—the state's largest recreational area—giving campers direct access to thousands of acres of pristine forests, hunting grounds, and waterways. The entrance and facilities are designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wheelchair-accessible parking and restrooms to ensure all members of the community can enjoy the grounds.
The services offered at Oak Embers Campground cater to a variety of camping styles, from traditional tenting to full-scale RV living. The management prioritizes convenience, accepting modern payment methods and providing the essential infrastructure needed for a comfortable stay. The services available include:
- RV camping with dedicated water hookups and electrical connections (30/50 Amp).
- Traditional tent sites for a more rustic, "off-the-grid" experience.
- On-site general store providing essentials like groceries, ice, and firewood.
- Sanitary dump stations for RV maintenance and waste management.
- Flexible payment options including credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.

Beyond the basic services, the campground is packed with features and highlights that make it a standout for families and outdoor adventurers. The facility is designed to keep everyone active, whether you are looking for high-energy recreation or a quiet spot to relax. Key highlights of the property include:

It is often recommended to call ahead during the peak summer months or for holiday weekends, as the campground is a popular choice for local groups and organizations.
What is worth choosing about Oak Embers Campground is the genuine sense of community and its unrivaled access to Rhode Island's best natural trails. While it is a "country-style" campground—meaning you should expect some of the realities of nature, such as the occasional swarm of flies common near farms or rustic bathroom facilities—the trade-off is a warm, welcoming environment where the staff goes the extra mile to ensure your event or stay is a success. It is worth choosing if you value a place where your kids can run free on a bike, where you can easily tow your RV from any part of the state, and where the neighbors are more likely to invite you to a cookout than ask you to keep it down. For a slice of classic Rhode Island outdoor life that doesn't break the bank, Oak Embers remains a top local contender.

Customer Reviews
My organization hosted an event there for four days. With a total of around 250 people coming out. Staff was amazing and made sure everything went off with out a hitch. The yearly campers came out had fun with us. We made sure to include everyone. We had an amazing time there and could have not been happier with how it all worked out. Personally would be go back just for the comfort and fun my family had. But the accommodation that shown and given to my organization really should. I would rate it 10-10 if I could. Also having the speed radar outside the camp had my guys running for top speed
The campsites were ridiculously small for the not seasonal people. We were put next to a huge hill that seemed to be either active or an old sewer so the amount of flies was absolutely horrible. The pool was cloudy and didn't look like it had been cleaned. The staff was very friendly but we will definitely not be coming back here at all.
Many of the tent sites have large, dead standing trees (widow makers). I normally would not make camp under such a threat but there were no other options available. The facilities and staff were great otherwise. Nice big pool and lots of scheduled activities for the whole family.
Stayed here as a seasonal camper- most staff were extremely friendly! But the owners were not very friendly at all. There was always a problem. Besides that, the campground goes through staff often, so there are times when the bathrooms are filthy and I have personally seen sewage being let out into road and into the sewer drain. I do not recommend this place, although the scenery is truly amazing.
The campground was nice but to small for our RV. The pool was kinda green and the playground wasn't usable due to a bee infestation. The staff was absolutely amazing though.
