What makes Potomac Group Campground worth choosing is the rare combination of scale, scenery, and price. In a state where many campgrounds are crowded or prohibitively expensive for large parties, this site offers a way for 15, 20, or more people to camp together in a cohesive unit. The value of having a large pavilion cannot be overstated; it serves as a "base camp" that saves the day during rain showers and provides a central hub for all group meals.
Furthermore, the location within the Finger Lakes National Forest means you aren't just staying at a campground; you are staying in a massive natural playground. The ability to walk five minutes from your tent and be on a major hiking trail that winds through woods and pastures is a significant draw. It is the perfect choice for New Yorkers who want a "unplugged" experience that emphasizes group bonding, outdoor education for children, and the simple joys of a campfire under the stars. Whether you are leading a scout troop or planning a multi-generational family retreat, Potomac Group Campground offers the space and the spirit of adventure that defines the best of New York camping.

Customer Reviews
Like the other reviewer, I'm a bit hesitant to review this place, because I feel like it should be way more used than it is. And for a ridiculously low rental fee. (****EDIT: As of 2018, the rental fee has increased drastically. :(. It’s no longer feasible for our group of 15 or so to camp here as they now charge per person. It was nice while it lasted!****) I guess for those who NEED electric, or want their vehicles closer than a 5-minute walk from the campsite, it might not be ideal, but for us, it feels like a step up from the roughing it we usually like to do when tent camping. The pavilion has saved the day more than one weekend - since you usually need to make your reservations way ahead of time, no telling what the weather will be the weekend you come. But the nice tent sites, nearby ponds, lots of trails, and the lovely pavilion with lots of picnic tables, make this the perfect spot to have a large group meet up and have some amenities, including vault toilets, if you prefer not to go in the woods. Although, they get pretty stinky over the summer and I think the woods are a much better option, personally! We come for a long weekend every summer and look forward to it every time. We almost always have stragglers who show up and ask if they can camp anywhere (since there's usually lots of empty spots, since we tend to all group together in the main area) but they're always good when we explain that area is reserved and there's lots of places you can stay nearby with no reservations needed.Great place! Our local boy scout troop has come here from time to time, also. Perfect for any big group!
Beautiful area in the Fingerlakes national forest. Large fields, camp grounds, trails and areas to explore both on the beaten path and off.
Amazing camping experience with clean vault toilets. Accommodated our school camping trip of 40 people easily. The pavilion and grills were very helpful for our experience. Centrally located fire circle. Fishing pond nearby. Wonderful way to get"Back to Nature". There's even parking with a short walk in.
My family and friends and I have been coming to this campground for 10 years running. It's a lovely getaway surrounded by the beautiful finger lakes. Just the right amount of amenities to still feel like camping-a fire pit with benches, a pavilion with tables, and vault toilets. The best thing- no loop camping neighbors! Remember to bring water. I'm hesitant to write a review because I love how quiet and hidden this place is.
It was a nice and clean campsite. Has a toilet but no running water. There is a shelter with benches and some trails to hike around. Had an awesome experience
