Shadow Hills Farm Introduce

For those looking to escape the relentless pace of city life, Shadow Hills Farm offers a refreshing and tranquil retreat in the heart of Washington County, New York. This unique destination blends the rustic charm of a working farm with the comfort of a well-managed campground, providing an experience that goes far beyond a standard tent site. Located in Fort Edward, this "camping farm" is a favorite for local New Yorkers seeking a peaceful getaway that remains close to major regional hubs like Saratoga Springs, Lake George, and West Mountain. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a family with young children, or a traveler looking for a cozy cabin stay, Shadow Hills Farm provides a welcoming atmosphere where the beauty of the outdoors meets the warmth of farm life.

Shadow Hills Farm is widely recognized for its inclusive and friendly environment. As a proudly LGBTQ+ friendly establishment, it invites a diverse crowd of visitors to enjoy its scenic ten-acre landscape. The property is famously hosted by Ken and Tammy, whose personal attention to detail and hospitality have earned high praise from the local community. The farm is not just a place to sleep; it is a place to reconnect—with nature, with family, and even with the friendly resident farm animals that call this property home. From the moment you arrive, the air feels cleaner, the pace feels slower, and the rolling hills of the Adirondack foothills provide a stunning backdrop for your stay.

Location and accessibility are among the top reasons New York residents choose Shadow Hills Farm. Situated at 1546 Mahaffy Road in Fort Edward, NY 12828, the farm is perfectly positioned for those who want to explore the best of Upstate New York. It is roughly a 30-minute drive to the shores of Lake George and the skiing trails of West Mountain, and about 45 minutes from the historic charm and racing culture of Saratoga Springs. This makes it an ideal "base camp" for weekend warriors and long-term vacationers alike. The property features convenient on-site parking, ensuring that guests can easily unload their gear and settle in without stress.

Accessing the farm is straightforward via regional roads that wind through the beautiful Washington County countryside. While the setting feels secluded and private, it remains within a reasonable distance of essential local services. For example, local dining options are just a couple of miles away, and larger grocery or supply stores can be found within a short ten-mile radius. This balance of rural isolation and practical accessibility is a hallmark of the Shadow Hills experience, allowing you to feel miles away from the world while remaining close to everything you need.

The presence of friendly farm animals—including mini horses and donkeys—provides a therapeutic and engaging atmosphere that is especially popular with children. The glowing reviews from past guests highlight the park's cleanliness, the hosts' kindness, and the overall "adorable" aesthetic of the property.

Furthermore, the farm’s commitment to being pet-friendly and inclusive makes it a top-tier choice for dog owners and the LGBTQ+ community. Instead of a cramped parking lot, you get wide-open grassy fields, starlit nights, and the sounds of nature. Whether you are visiting in the summer to enjoy the lush greenery and the pond or in the winter to experience the magical holiday lights and nearby skiing, Shadow Hills Farm provides a versatile and memorable destination. Our stay at Shadow Hills Farm was one of the best experiences we've had on travel. The perfect combination of a tranquil location and a beautifully maintained cabin. Ken and Tammy made for an unforgettable stay. We highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to escape to the nature (Lake George, West Mountain, and Saratoga Springs) and enjoy some peace and relaxation. We can't wait to return!

Place was adorable. Kids really enjoyed knowing a letter to Santa. And they let the do some decorating and hanging on the tree. It was really cute. And the lights in the yard were just super super nice. We all had such a great time. Thank you!

Shadow hills farm blew us away! From the decor to the amenities Shadow Hills farm went above and beyond any expectations. Upon arrival we were greeted with a beautifully setup common area. The twinkle lights strung all over, brought a stunning ambience. The hosts were so gracious and accommodating. They were there when we needed them but gave us our privacy. The bar area was fully stocked with everything you could possibly need to create a meal! The fire pit was immaculate and the wood was plentiful! The outdoor shower was awesome! It was like bathing in the rain. The playground area was as well, immaculate and well tended to. The outhouse was clean and perfectly stocked. The cabin itself was amazing! Adorably decorated! It was equipped with anything and everything you might need! It was clean and very comfortable! My only complain is that we didn't stay long enough... I can confidently say we will be returning!

Would definitely stay again--the peacefulness of camping plus more privacy. You don't have to worry about packing/bringing a tent, air mattress, firewood, etc. The tent has trees around it but is next to an open area great for seeing the stars. We could park 2 cars right next to the tent. There is a picnic table and separate chairs, a trash can and bags, a lantern, a fan, lights, comfortable beds and bedding....really everything you need. There is a hose for handwashing and an outdoor shower with a roof, electricity to charge a cell phone, even a lighter and newspaper in a cooler. They checked on us once to make sure everything was good. You're 10 minutes from a grocery store if you do forget something but you wouldn't know it just by being there. Relaxing weekend.

My cousin was getting married, and it happened to be a weekend event, with a BBQ on Friday, and ceremony/reception on Saturday. My boyfriend suggested that we should find a place nearby, and make it a weekend getaway, considering the events were about an hour North of us. Upon his search, he came across this location. With impressive photos, and a compelling price, we just couldn't pass it up. We were so excited for this trip!Upon our arrival, we were awe struck by the festive displays on the property, and became even more curious as it seemed there was more to it than meets the eye, which we later discovered there is! Further into the property, we found our resting place. The cutest little cabin on what appeared to be a private campsite, with an outdoor shower, a shed equipped with all of your cooking needs and speakers for outdoor music, playground for the kids, a portapottie, and an outhouse. To be honest I was quite skeptical of the bathroom situation, but I was pleasantly surprised as to how clean those spaces were. I especially liked the option of having both, and while I did try the outhouse experience, I found myself most comfortable with the portapottie. The cozy/romantic cabin itself, is perfect for two, with plenty of outdoor space for others. A space that is also shared with CoCo the Donkey, and Penny the miniature horse, as their pen and barn are just a few steps away. They are very friendly and added to the overall experience you don't typically have everyday. So much thought has gone into this space, you won't have to worry about whether you've forgotten anything. I especially admired the minor details such as the clever little arrow labeled flashlight hanging next to the flashlight, and the hand crafted woodwork displayed in the cabin. There are many games to play, solar lighting throughout the outdoor space, and so many other available necessities that you'd have to see for yourself, as there are too many to list. You get so much more out of this location than what you see on the website. Though we found our way through to the cabin, I would suggest maybe a sign by the pond "Airbnb This Way" with an arrow, to show the way in to it. Though the website shows what we obviously should have been looking for, the GPS brought us to your house which initially brought us some confusion as to whether we went to the right entrance/location.If you ever get the chance to stay here, please meet Ken! Listen to his story and learn about his involvement with the community. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, have referred our friends and family, and will definitely return in the future. To Ken and his wife, thank you so much for your hospitality, and for sharing your animals with us.Sincerely,Tiffani & Michael
