What is worth choosing at Shellbay Campground is the specific lifestyle it offers. If you are a resident of New Jersey looking for a "home away from home" near the shore, the seasonal sites are worth choosing for their incredible value. Often, a full season at a site like this costs less than a single week in a shore house rental, allowing your family to visit the beach as often as you like throughout the summer. For transient campers, the 20 sites reserved for short-term stays are worth choosing for their generous size and reasonable pricing compared to local hotels.
Additionally, for those who value variety, choosing Shellbay means choosing a basecamp that gives you the flexibility to visit Stone Harbor one day and the Cape May Lighthouse the next. The nostalgic feel of the camp store and the personal attention from the staff make it a standout choice for those who find large corporate-owned campgrounds to be too impersonal. While the social atmosphere can be lively, particularly on holiday weekends, the trade-off is a vibrant community where children can play safely and adults can relax. If you want a clean, well-maintained, and family-focused park that captures the essence of a New Jersey summer, Shellbay Campground is a local gem that deserves a spot on your itinerary.

I camped at Shellbay Campground in a tent for four nights this summer with my family of five. My three kids had to sleep in the car until 1 AM one night, because that is when the blasting music, which included a live band, stopped at the graduation party a few hundred feet away. I was informed by a group of discontent RV campers that had huddled together that night that the property of the party, 114 Stagecoach Rd. (South Jersey Sunrooms) is the property of the daughter and son-in-law of the owner of Shellbay Campground. The owner confirmed this information the next morning, and was well aware that the party would take place there that night, and could have suggested that I stayed at a tent site further away. Aside from our troubles that night, one morning my kids got woken up by Steven the bulldog barking at us 10 feet in front of our tent, because there is a dog park right behind tent sites 638 and 637, which is deceitfully not shown on the map. When confronted about the dog park, the owner told me it is a spot for horses, but people take their dogs there sometimes. While I saw no horses, there was a steady stream of dogs. Regardless, if it's accessible to campers, it should be on the campground map. We also used gloves to pull up around 30 small poison ivy plants scattered around tent site 638, upon arrival, and upon departure found a mold with an approximately 4 inch radius growing on rotting wood buried underneath our tent, and had to clean mold off our tent. I had stayed at both Depot Travel Park (has city water) and Adventure Bound Campground the previous year, and would recommend either of them over Shellbay Campground - and they are both cheaper!
Just stayed here with a friend. Would definitely be back!!!! First of all yes it is a quiet place and some families stay here with kids. Mostly retired people with permanent sites. However, the 20 sites they do rent are nice size and reasonable in price for being close to Stone Harbor, Cape May, and Wildwood! Mix of shaded and some sun areas. Great looking pool, hot tube, and the bathrooms were clean and well maintained. They have two little cabins that probably sleep family of four. The staff were family run and very nice!! Camp store brings me back to childhood memories of a typical camp store. Prices all around very respectable compared to most hotels. The staff were accommodating on our only needing one night but that was for a tent site. Cabins are 2-3 nights. Just bring cash and you will be a happy camper!!!
First off saying this place is very very clean. Very easy on the phone. And this is my first time camping and actually enjoyed it. Everything is close by. It’s pet friendly. And just a lot to do wish I stayed longer a weekend wasn’t enough but had so much fun here. Do it it’s very cute little place. Ps 25 cents for 4 mins for showering was a plus! Very hot water.
My wife & I go there often. It's a nice, clean, & typically quiet campground. The owners are really nice & always a pleasure to talk with. It takes us only a few minutes to get to our favorite beach in Stone Harbor & it's not far from other beaches & towns too.
A very charming campground, still family owned. Really nice pool and hot tub, great bathroom facilities. The folks in the office are extremely pleasant and helpful. Close to the Cape May Zoo. There is an awesome bike path that is very close. It is at least 8 miles long and pretty much parallels old Rt. 9. It's also 15 minutes from The Wildwoods. Lots of stuff to do from this location.
