Solomon Islands Camp Ground E Introduce

Solomon Islands Camp Ground E is a specialized camping destination located within the expansive Navy Recreation Center (NRC) Solomons in Maryland. As part of the "Navy Getaways" program, this campground offers a unique opportunity for eligible patrons—including active-duty military, retirees, DoD civilians, and their families—to enjoy the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay region. Nestled on a peninsula where the Patuxent River meets the bay, the facility provides a peaceful and secure environment for outdoor enthusiasts looking to escape the hustle of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. Known for its historical significance and modern recreational amenities, Solomon Islands Camp Ground E serves as a premier vacation spot for the military community.

The "Area E" section of the campground is particularly notable for its modern infrastructure, specifically catering to those who prefer the comforts of full-hookup RV camping. Unlike some of the more primitive sections of the base, Area E is designed to provide a higher level of service while maintaining a close connection to the waterfront. Residents of Maryland and visiting military families often choose this location for its mix of wooded serenity and open-air accessibility. The community atmosphere is professional yet relaxed, fostering a sense of camaraderie among those who serve or have served, all while providing a safe haven for children and families to explore the great outdoors.

Location is the cornerstone of the Solomon Islands Camp Ground E experience. Situated in Calvert County, the campground is approximately 65 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., and roughly 1.5 to 2.5 hours from Baltimore depending on traffic. The facility is perched on a scenic peninsula, offering stunning vistas of the Patuxent River. Its proximity to the town of Solomons allows guests to easily explore local restaurants, shops, and maritime museums, while the military-only access ensures the grounds remain a private retreat. Accessibility is a priority at the facility, with infrastructure designed to welcome all guests comfortably.

  • Located at 8GPJ+RQ, Solomons, MD 20688, easily found via Route 4 South.
  • Features a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot for inclusive access.
  • Conveniently located near the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge, providing a quick link to St. Mary's County and the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
  • Ample on-site parking is available for both campers and day-use visitors.
  • The site is part of a larger gated military recreation area with 24/7 security oversight for resident peace of mind.

Solomon Islands Camp Ground E provides a comprehensive range of services designed to make long-term and short-term stays as convenient as possible. As one of the premier sections of the NRC Solomons complex, Area E focuses on full-service RV sites. Beyond the individual campsites, the facility operates as a full-scale resort with a dedicated lodging office to assist with reservations, equipment rentals, and information regarding local Maryland attractions. These services are tailored to the military lifestyle, offering flexibility and affordability for the defense community.

Choosing Solomon Islands Camp Ground E is a decision to embrace the "land of pleasant living" that Southern Maryland is famous for. For military families and DoD personnel, it represents one of the best values in regional travel. Unlike private campgrounds that can feel cramped or lack infrastructure, Area E provides spacious, well-equipped sites with the full backing of Navy MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) standards. The ability to have full water, sewer, and high-amperage electrical hookups while being just steps away from a riverfront beach is a combination that is hard to find elsewhere in the state.

Furthermore, the location is worth choosing because of its unique blend of security and community. The gated nature of the facility provides a level of safety that allows parents to feel comfortable letting their children bike or walk to the playground and pool. Beyond the base gates, the charming town of Solomons offers a sophisticated boardwalk experience without the overwhelming crowds of larger seaside resorts. Whether you are looking to spend your days fishing on the pier, learning about naval history at the nearby museum, or simply watching the sunset over the Patuxent from your RV, Solomon Islands Camp Ground E offers an unparalleled Maryland outdoor experience. It is a place where military history meets modern recreation, creating lasting memories for all who visit. We stayed at Campground Area A which had only electric and water hookups. The sites were far enough apart that you didn't feel cramped in. There were walking trails around the area, beaches but no lifeguards present, a fishing pier, and boat ramps. It's a large military campground with a swimming pool, picnic areas, cabins, cottages, and yurts to rent.We weren't impressed with the lodging office staff as the clerk didn't help mark out the best route for us to take to get to our site. She just handed us a map that we had to ask for and basically said, "you can figure it out," when the campground is separated into several different areas and the roads are maze like. Not very friendly at all.Solomons town is just down the road and the Naval Air Station is 20-30 minutes across the bridge with a lot of shopping and eating establishments nearby the base. There's also a Naval museum that's interesting. It's a very nice place to visit.

An excellent place to enjoy a walk and breathe in the fresh air, as well as the restaurants and complete security where you can walk around safely and without problems.
