Beach House Introduce
The Beach House at Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River offers a distinctive outdoor experience for those with access to the installation. Positioned at the scenic confluence where the Patuxent River meets the majestic Chesapeake Bay, this location serves as a premier destination for camping and outdoor gatherings in Southern Maryland. While many know the "Beach House" as a versatile event facility, the surrounding grounds provide a peaceful atmosphere for nature lovers and families looking to enjoy the coastal beauty of St. Mary's County.
The site is characterized by its wide-open spaces, mature trees, and direct access to the water, making it a favorite for local military members, retirees, and their families. It captures the essence of a traditional Maryland summer—humid afternoons tempered by river breezes and evenings filled with the sounds of the local ecosystem. Whether you are planning a weekend tent stay or a large command picnic, the Beach House provides a functional and beautiful backdrop that highlights the natural charm of the Patuxent River area.
Location and Accessibility
Located at 23248 Cedar Point Road, Patuxent River, MD 20670, the Beach House is situated deep within the NAS Patuxent River installation. It is important for potential visitors to understand that because it is located on an active military base, access is strictly limited to authorized personnel, including active-duty service members, reservists, retirees, and DoD civilians. Visitors must pass through the base gates, which requires proper military or government identification. Once on base, the drive to Cedar Point Road is straightforward, leading you to the tip of the peninsula where the water views are most expansive.
The facility is designed with accessibility in mind. The campground and event area include wheelchair-accessible entrances and a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that all authorized community members can enjoy the space. The terrain around the Beach House is generally flat, which facilitates easier movement between the camping sites, the playground, and the shoreline. On-site parking is plentiful, allowing guests to keep their vehicles close to their designated picnic or camping areas for easy unloading of gear and supplies.
Services Offered
The Beach House offers a blend of primitive camping and event-oriented services. It is particularly well-known for its ability to host large groups, but it remains a quaint and quiet spot for smaller families or individual campers during the off-peak times. The management provides the essential infrastructure needed for a successful outdoor stay, though guests are encouraged to come prepared for a "rustic" experience, especially during the warmer months.
- Primitive Tent Camping: Designated areas for setting up tents, providing an authentic outdoor sleeping experience under the Maryland stars.

Features and Highlights
What makes the Beach House a standout in the Patuxent River region is its immediate proximity to the water and its variety of recreational features. It is not just a place to pitch a tent; it is a full-service recreation hub where children can play and adults can relax or engage in friendly competition. The layout of the park encourages movement and activity, making it one of the most versatile spots on the installation.

What is Worth Choosing
The Beach House is worth choosing for those who prioritize location and community atmosphere above luxury. In the Maryland camping scene, it is rare to find a spot that offers such a direct and unobstructed view of the confluence of a major river and the Chesapeake Bay. For military families stationed at Pax River, it offers a "staycation" opportunity that feels worlds away from the daily grind of the office or flight line, without the need for a long drive across the state.
It is an especially strong choice for those planning large family reunions or command functions. The inclusion of a full kitchen and a large indoor space provides a "safety net" for outdoor events, though visitors should note the lack of air conditioning and prepare for the summer heat. Choosing the Beach House means choosing a place where your kids can run safely from the playground to the beach while you enjoy a barbecue with friends in a secure, private environment. Its historical charm and scenic layout continue to make it a beloved local gem for the NAS Patuxent River community.

Customer Reviews
Came here in 91 for the annual PT test had a beer truck waiting for our arrival. Not sure if this happens today. Nice location located close to the beach and children's playground. You will need access onto the base to enjoy this great layout. Love it..
It was a very quaint space, with a kitchen space with stove and wash sink. Fridge and freezer are available. Except the building gets very hot inside with no A.C. the event was so uncomfortable up til the night fell and the sun went down a bit at around 7:30 pm but that was the end 🙃.Otherwise really nice picnic spot.
Absolutely stunning place on base to have any sort of gathering. They have a full kitchen and refrigerators for you to use. Have a big open dining area where you can set up tables or go outside and eat under the gazebos. Have good horseshoe pits and spots to play cornhole in all their mouth as well. There's a good dog to go down to the water too!
Clean, nice area! Great for the kids to run around, water is nice. Plenty of space and has a pavilion to utilize for events. Highly recommended! (Base access only)
Great place. But if you're going to rent it during the Winter, have somebody show up early and turn on the heat. For our event it was very cold in the Room for the 1st 45 minutes
