Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday Introduce

For outdoor enthusiasts in the New York region, the Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday stands out as a premier destination for both relaxation and adventure. Nestled in the quiet township of Sterling, this campground offers a refreshing escape from the bustle of city life while remaining conveniently close to some of Upstate New York’s most famous seasonal attractions. Unlike massive, overcrowded commercial parks, this KOA is often described as having a "mom and pop" charm, providing a more intimate and welcoming atmosphere for families, solo travelers, and large groups alike. Whether you are a local resident looking for a weekend getaway or a traveler exploring the Great Lakes shoreline, this facility provides the perfect home base for your excursions.

The Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday is specifically designed to accommodate a variety of camping styles. From traditional tent sites to massive big-rig RV slips, the park prioritizes space and comfort. Many visitors find the sites here to be significantly larger than those at competing parks, allowing for a greater sense of privacy and room to stretch out. The park is characterized by its blend of open, sun-drenched areas and shaded, wooded spots, ensuring that every camper can find a setting that suits their preference. Its commitment to cleanliness and hospitality has made it a favorite for those visiting the nearby shores of Lake Ontario.

Location and accessibility are among the park's strongest features. Situated at 14983 Juniper Hill Road, Sterling, NY 13156, the campground is easily accessible via New York State Route 104 and Route 38. This strategic location puts visitors just minutes away from Fair Haven Beach State Park and the stunning Sterling Nature Center. For those attending the annual Sterling Renaissance Festival, the KOA serves as an essential lodging partner, located just a short drive from the festival grounds. The park management has also taken care to ensure the facility is accessible, providing wheelchair-accessible restrooms and level on-site parking for all guests. The roads leading to and within the park are well-maintained, making it a stress-free destination for those maneuvering large RVs or trailers.

The services offered at the Sterling / Lake Ontario KOA Holiday are comprehensive, focusing on both the practical needs of campers and the recreational desires of families. As a Holiday-tier KOA, guests can expect upgraded amenities that go beyond basic camping. The following services are available on-site:

  • Full-hookup RV sites including 30-amp and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections.
  • Dedicated tent camping areas with options for electric hookups or a more primitive experience.
  • Deluxe cabin rentals for those who prefer "glamping" with full bathrooms and comfortable bedding.
  • On-site laundry facilities featuring clean and well-kept washers and dryers.
  • A spacious community room filled with games and recreational activities for all ages.
  • A small camp store stocked with basic necessities, snacks, and firewood.
  • Clean bathhouses with hot showers (note: some units may feature button-operated water controls).
  • High-speed Wi-Fi access throughout the park, though signal strength can vary by location.

The highlights of this campground extend into its robust schedule of events and its unique physical features. Families with children will find the "pirate ship" themed playground to be a major draw, providing hours of entertainment. For pet owners, the park is exceptionally accommodating, featuring a dedicated dog park (KampK9) where furry friends can run off-leash in a safe environment. The park’s commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment is further evidenced by its LGBTQ+ friendly status. Some of the most notable features include:

The RV sites here are spacious compared to other parks where they try to fit 150 slips into a small area. This location feels very different from other KOA parks we have stayed at. It is smaller and has more of a “mom and pop” charm. The laundry room is clean and well-kept, although there are only two washers and two dryers. The community room is large, filled with games, and also very clean. There are shaded spots, but if you are in the front section of the park, you will not get much shade. I have Verizon and the service was spotty. The park uses well water, which I do not mind since I grew up on it, but some people may prefer to buy separate drinking water. The Sterling Nature Center is beautiful and a perfect place to watch the sunset. We happened to drive past the Sterling Renaissance Festival grounds and had no idea it existed. We decided to go, and it was amazing. It is very close to the RV park. The employees here are friendly and welcoming, which made our stay even better.

Very new KOA with some nice amenities and room to grow. Only issue we had were in the bathhouses, the were very clean, plenty of hot water, but they had a button you had to press to get the shower going and occasionally to keep it going. This button did not always work, sometimes leaving you covered in soap, pushing the button, but no water. Other than that, site was nice, level, and spacious. Hookups were on the wrong side, but that was fine with out small trailer.

It was our first time at this new 2025 KOA. The owners were so friendly and nice. Everyone was kind and courteous that were camping around us. We were in 75 and right behind the bathhouse. It was spic and span in there. We enjoyed our time just resting and our family came to visit while we were there. We went out a couple of times for things we had forgotten and there are stores nearby as well as an amazingly stocked check-in welcome station. The dog yard was beautiful. Everything was well cared for. Plenty of wood for campfires at a fair rate. There are many things to do in the area but maybe next time. We will be back for sure.

We spent a lovely couple of days at this recently remodeled KOA. I can’t say enough good things about the bathrooms! The ones with the shower are brand spanking new! The others have been remodeled and are also excellent! We had a nice spot for our RV with patio, table/chairs & fire ring(also brand new!) The owner is a wonderfully friendly woman too! There is a nice community activity building & a community gas grill. It’s also a great area to visit with a nearby nature center & Fair Haven State Park right on the water. I highly recommend giving this place a try & would be perfect during the Sterling Renaissance Festival. 5 stars!! ⭐️
