Stony Creek Family Campground Introduce
For New Yorkers looking to trade the relentless noise of the city for the soothing sounds of a rushing stream, Stony Creek Family Campground offers a perfect sanctuary. Situated in the southeastern corner of the Adirondack Park, this family-owned and operated destination is designed for those who appreciate the simpler side of the great outdoors. From the perspective of a local camper, this isn't just a place to park an RV; it is a community hub where the "Biggest Little Town in New York State" greets you with open arms. The campground strikes a rare balance between providing modern comforts and preserving the "off-the-grid" feel that makes Adirondack camping so legendary. Whether you are arriving for a holiday weekend or a quiet midweek retreat, the friendly atmosphere ensures that every guest feels like an old friend of the family.
The beauty of this location lies in its ability to disconnect visitors from the digital world. Many campers specifically highlight the lack of cellular service as a major benefit, allowing families to actually talk, play games, and explore the creek without the distraction of screens. The property is nestled among native pines and hardwoods, creating a lush, shaded environment that keeps the sites cool even during the peak of a New York summer. The nearby Stony Creek flows gently past the grounds, providing a natural soundtrack and a playground for children who love to wade in the water or search for local gemstones. It is the kind of place where days are measured by the height of the sun and evenings are defined by the warmth of a shared campfire.
Location and accessibility are among the top reasons this campground remains a favorite for residents of the Capital District and beyond. Located at 18 Grist Mill Rd, Stony Creek, NY 12878, it is less than 20 miles from the bustling attractions of Lake George and just 30 miles from the historic streets of Saratoga Springs. This proximity allows guests to enjoy the relative solitude of a mountain forest while remaining just a short drive from world-class outlet shopping, horse racing, and amusement parks. Reaching the campground is a scenic experience in itself; the drive through Warren County features rolling hills and river views that prepare you for the relaxation ahead. Once on-site, the facility is well-organized with on-site parking and accessible amenities, ensuring that everyone from seasoned backpackers to those with limited mobility can enjoy the grounds.

We called here at 3pm on Saturday the weekend of 4th of July and asked if they had a tent site available, and they did! When we got there, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Prices couldn't be beat. Store was great for little things you may forget to bring. Showers and bathroom were clean. We had a great 2 night stay.Best part about this place was NO CELL SERVICE!!!!! Loved that. Completely stress free holiday weekend. We will be returning here next year for sure!
My husband, kids and I went for a 3 day weekend. The facility was very clean and well cared for. The camp store was great especially if you forget things like we did. The owners were extremely nice and the seasonal campers were super friendly. We stayed in a pop up and had a nice site (#2). We would go back again. My kids loved the pool and walking in the creek.
Very clean , real friendly, quiet , relaxing , everyone greets you with hello and a smile , in groundPool, small game room , general store , hot showers, camping families and singles alike. Good pricing.Took me less than 30 minutes to Lk George and 15 to Lk Luzerne.
This was not the type of campground we prefer. Pictures on the website suggested private wooded sites, but we were in a field with everyone else. The sites were mostly bare dirt, so a lot got tracked into our rig.Wi-fi was effectively non-existent at our campsite, and poor outside the office. We didn’t use the bathhouse at all, so can’t make any comments about it. There was a small pool , which we also didn’t use. That being said, it was quiet at night, which is important. So this campground is “acceptable @, although we don’t plan to return here.
My family went last year for tent sites it was a great stay hot showers pool playground and my grandchildren had a ball. There was music adult only stuff kids all played baseball with adults I loved it . Staff was great
