Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway Introduce
Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway, formerly known as Adirondack Gateway RV Resort and Campground, serves as a prominent recreational destination for those seeking the quintessential Upstate New York outdoor experience. Located in the heart of the historic Gansevoort area, this expansive park offers a versatile blend of traditional camping and modern resort-style amenities. As many New York residents know, the region between Saratoga Springs and Lake George is prime territory for summer getaways, and this park positions itself as a gateway to both. Whether you are arriving with a high-end motorhome or looking for a cozy cabin rental, the facility provides a structured and lively environment designed to cater to vacationers from all walks of life.
The park is managed by the Sun Outdoors brand, which is known for its professional approach to hospitality and diverse recreational offerings. The atmosphere at Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway is largely communal, characterized by a mix of transient vacationers and long-term seasonal residents. This creates a neighborhood-like feel, especially during the peak summer months when the pavilion comes alive with scheduled entertainment and social activities. For local families in New York looking for a "home away from home," the park offers a well-maintained setting where children can roam safely between the playground and the pool while adults enjoy the relative peace of the wooded outskirts.
Location and accessibility are among the top reasons travelers choose this specific RV park. Situated at 427 Fortsville Rd, Gansevoort, NY 12831, the park is incredibly easy to reach from Interstate 87 (The Northway), making it a convenient stop for those traveling from New York City, Albany, or Montreal. Its strategic location puts it just 15 minutes away from the vibrant culture and thoroughbred racing of Saratoga Springs and approximately 20 minutes from the crystal-clear waters and tourist attractions of Lake George. This dual proximity allows guests to enjoy the tranquility of a forested campground while remaining close to some of the most famous entertainment and dining hubs in the Empire State.
Accessibility within the park itself has been carefully considered to ensure all guests can enjoy the facilities. The entrance is designed to accommodate large rigs without difficulty, and the property features a wheelchair accessible parking lot and restrooms. Additionally, the main office and social areas are accessible, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can participate in community events. The park operates on a seasonal basis, typically opening in early May and closing in mid-October, aligning perfectly with the prime New York camping season when the Adirondack foothills are at their most beautiful.
The services offered at Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway are comprehensive, aiming to provide a stress-free environment for both novice and experienced campers. The park focuses on "onsite services" that minimize the need for guests to leave the property for basic necessities. From full utility hookups to onsite food options, the management strives to maintain a high standard of convenience. For those who enjoy a more social vacation, the park provides an array of organized services that foster community engagement, such as themed weekends and live music performances.

- Onsite laundry facilities for the convenience of long-term and seasonal guests.

For those who prefer a more natural water experience, the stocked catch-and-release fishing pond offers a peaceful alternative. The jumping pillow and playground are major draws for children, providing hours of entertainment within the safety of the park grounds. What is worth choosing about Sun Retreats Adirondack Gateway is the sheer variety of experiences it offers in a single location. In the competitive landscape of New York RV parks, this destination stands out because it doesn't force you to choose between nature and entertainment. You can spend your morning hiking in the nearby Moreau Lake State Park and your evening enjoying live music at the resort's pavilion. It is particularly worth choosing for families who want to ensure their children have constant activities to keep them occupied, as the playground, jumping pillow, and pool provide a trifecta of kid-approved fun.
Furthermore, the park’s flexibility in stay durations—ranging from a single-night transient stay to a full-year seasonal lease—makes it an adaptable choice for different lifestyles. For the local New Yorker, having a seasonal spot here means having a dedicated summer home without the massive overhead of a traditional house. While some reviews mention the typical growing pains of a large community, the consistent maintenance and the sheer volume of amenities make it a value-driven choice for those who enjoy a lively, resort-style atmosphere. If you want a base camp that is professionally managed and places you minutes away from the best attractions in Upstate New York, this park is an excellent candidate for your next adventure.

Customer Reviews
Sun Retreats is a campground and pool are well maintained and has many amenities. The staff is awesome You can pay a lot rent yearly or get a short-term site for vacation. There is entertainment in the Pavilion every weekend which is included. The location is great and in the summer this is our home away from home.
Horrible place. Young teens running around in golf carts under the influence. There are at least 2 trailers that are owned by young kids whose parents sign the paperwork for them. One boy, ty, who is either 20 or 21 has underage girls there drinking and smoking weed all the time. He tried to get my niece into his trailer. She was 14! Management was notified more than once but it has continued from last summer. Some things never change and neither will this place. Currently there are several of us looking for new accommodations. Good riddance
This used to be a very wonderful place for the Family. This is no resort. Now this place is more for the adults. Every weekend is about partying, getting drunk, getting high; and some of the Children under the age of six running around without supervision. How is that safe?Where’s the fun activities for the Children? Only a few maybe. Why aren’t there any set rules for Children under a certain age? Why isn’t anyone supervising these children? And the bathrooms on the weekends over by the pool are discussing and no one ever looks after them and someone is bound to slip on the very wet floors. Why doesn’t everyone keep up after them? Why is there always dust in the bathrooms as well? Why can some people get away with speeding over 5 1/2 miles per hr and others who do the speed get questioned? Why not get a radar? There needs to be set rules for everyone not just for certain ones
My family and I love staying at Adirondack Gateway RV Resort. We have been going there for years. Everyone is so friendly, the staff is always helpful and it is so maintained so well. Ton’s of activities for the kids and adults. This is a place where great memories are made, We have so many. We would and do recommend Adirondack Gateway RV Resort to everyone.
We have a seasonal site here, just signed on for our third season. As with most campgrounds with seasonal guests, we find it to be “clicky” and while most are welcoming to “new campers” some are not. Most of the staff are wonderful! Especially the maintenance and security crew. The ladies who work the front desk are fun and kind. We have had very limited interaction with the Manager of the park.Adults love the bands they host every weekend in the pavilion. Lots of drinking, but very few rowdy campers. The corn hole and horseshoe tournaments are a hit as are the poker tournaments. They also do wreath making and paint and sip events at additional cost.Kids activities are sparse unless they are into candy bar bingo (many weekends) or scavenger hunts. They did a few craft projects in a bag but you seem to have to stumble upon those. They do a movie on Thursday nights, but it starts so late that our kiddos were not interested. They have a large pool and a kiddie splash area which is fun. There’s a slide at the pool that some of the kids abuse jumping from the top into shallow water. We’d love to see an arcade/indoor game room of sorts for those rainy weekends. You often see the tweens/teens sitting on picnic tables watching their phones. At $4650/season w/o sewer hookup, it would be nice to see more structured activities for the kids of all ages, not just the 9-13 crowd. As well as the indoor Rec area i mentioned earlier. We really like our site and our neighbors.
