Sylvania Tree Farm Introduce
Sylvania Tree Farm is a premier outdoor destination located in the picturesque village of Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. Spanning a sprawling 1,200-acre private estate along the Upper Delaware River, this unique campground offers a serene escape from the fast-paced lifestyle of the Mid-Atlantic region. Unlike many commercialized camping resorts, Sylvania Tree Farm prioritizes privacy, nature, and tranquility, limiting the number of guests to ensure a peaceful and uncrowded atmosphere. Managed by the McKay family, who have a heritage in the area dating back to the 1800s, the farm provides a blend of "town time forgot" charm with modern hospitality. It is a place where Pennsylvania residents and travelers from neighboring states can reconnect with the natural world in its most pristine state.
The property is divided into specialized zones, featuring both exclusive riverfront tent campsites and luxury, four-season cabins tucked away in the woods. The environment is heavily influenced by its 1,000-acre trail system and its two miles of private trout stream access. Residents of Pennsylvania and the surrounding Tri-State area frequently visit Sylvania Tree Farm to observe the majestic Bald Eagles that winter in the region or to enjoy a quiet afternoon floating on an inner tube in the river’s gentle eddies. With its commitment to eco-friendly practices and attentive personal service, this campground has become a "hidden gem" for those who value authentic, high-quality outdoor experiences.
Location and Accessibility are significant highlights for Sylvania Tree Farm. Situated at 112 Mast Hope Ave in the northeast corner of Pennsylvania, the farm is approximately 90 miles from New York City and 175 miles from Philadelphia. This makes it a convenient weekend getaway for city dwellers seeking the quiet of the Poconos. The entrance is easily accessible by standard vehicles, and the road leading to the river campsites provides a scenic view of the Delaware River winding through the valley. Once guests arrive at the home office for registration, they are personally escorted to their specific sites by the hosts, ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition to their stay.

A major draw is the ability to camp literally steps away from the river, where guests can wade, fish, and swim in private "eddies." Birdwatching is a premier activity here, as the farm is located in one of the largest Bald Eagle wintering areas in the Northeast. For those staying in the cabins, highlights include custom-milled pine flooring from timber on the property and bluestone fireplaces sourced from local quarries. The park is exceptionally family-oriented and "kid-friendly," offering a safe environment where children can explore the woods under the watchful eyes of their guardians.

What is worth choosing about Sylvania Tree Farm? For Pennsylvania residents, the answer lies in the authenticity of the experience. It is worth choosing because it offers "true" camping where the river is your front yard and the woods are your backyard. The level of care provided by a family-owned estate—delivering wood to your site, providing umbrellas during hot days, and maintaining spotless bathrooms—is a significant upgrade from public camping. It is a factual, reliable choice for those who want the luxury of silence and the beauty of the Upper Delaware without the distractions of a crowded resort.
Choosing Sylvania Tree Farm also means supporting an eco-conscious local business that has preserved the heritage of the Lackawaxen area for decades. Whether you are an avid fly fisherman looking for a private trout stream or a parent wanting to show your children the stars and the eagles, this campground provides the infrastructure and the environment to make those memories possible. If you are seeking a peaceful, private, and professionally managed retreat in the heart of nature, Sylvania Tree Farm is arguably the finest choice in the region. Would you like me to look up specific seasonal rates or local hiking trail maps for your visit?

Customer Reviews
A nearby campground was booked up, so I was so glad I found Sylvania Tree Farm through a Google search. Jane called me back right away and discussed options for campsites. When we arrived, she showed us around and we were able to camp right along the river. It was so peaceful and quiet. Not crowded at all, and everyone is friendly. The bathhouse was a nice surprise compared to most campground bathrooms. There is nothing quite like taking a swim and hearing/seeing Bald Eagles around you. We are so grateful to have found this place and hope to return often.
We have been camping here every summer for several years, nothing else like it. True camping right along the River. Jane, John and their Family are Friendly Welcoming and attentive to any needs campers may have. It’s such a pleasure returning to this Wonderful Beautiful Gem.
We have been coming to Sylvania Tree Farm for many years. Our first trip was in 2018 in one of their beautifully appointed cabins. The cabin was absolutely lovely, but camping at Sylvania is our favorite. There are only 7 or 8 sites on the entire riverfront property. Each site is quite large and private, so you really don't see or hear your neighbors. The bath house is very clean and has hot and cold water, a flushable toilet, and a coin-operated shower. There is also a spigot to wash dishes at the bathhouse.Sylvania encompasses what camping *should* be - a time to reconnect with nature, family, and friends. We have been to so many state parks and public campgrounds that only have a few feet of space between sites. Everyone is blasting all different types of music and partying until all hours of the night. That is not what you will find at Sylvania. Jane and John have really poured their heart and soul into creating a beautiful retreat for their guests. 10/10 recommend.
Like prior reviewer - wish we could give a higher rating. We camped here a number of times pre-children but hadn't been able to for the last few years. We booked a hipcamp for fathers day weekend this year which was NOT as described and we had to bail. We drove over to Sylvania and Jane and John not only recognized us right away, but heard our story and agreed to put us up in an ancillary space. The whole property is immaculate and as there are only 7 sites along their whole length of river it's never crowded and always quiet at night. There are hiking trails around the property and leading to the top of a ridge overlooking the river and valley. Oh! and they also rent cabins which are charming and well made (get the one with the hot tub if still available! *6 years ago). The people that you meet all report having stayed there for years, and it's obvious why. Such a great location run by wonderful folks. Thanks Sylvania Tree Farm.
I wish I could give a higher rating! Everything about our stay was great! The 2 Bridges cabin is amazing. Clean, comfortable, and has everything you need to relax in comfort. The area is private, with only the sounds of nature, and flowing streams, for a great ambience. Jane is an amazing host, and we can't wait to come back!
