The Quarry Campground Introduce
The Quarry Campground stands as a revitalized gem in the heart of Tolland County, Connecticut, offering a perfect blend of rustic "deep-woods bliss" and modern, family-focused amenities. Spanning 67 acres of lush, wooded terrain, this women-owned destination has recently undergone extensive renovations to transform into one of the state's most sought-after camping retreats. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway close to home or a seasonal base for the summer, the campground provides a serene environment where the crackle of a campfire and the rustle of pine trees replace the hustle of city life.
Originally an old quarry, the property has been artfully returned to service as a premier outdoor playground. Its unique landscape features winding creeks, rocky coves, and two stunning central ponds that serve as the heartbeat of the community. The atmosphere is intentionally kept woodsy and secluded, yet the facility manages to offer high-speed connectivity and upgraded infrastructure that appeals to the modern traveler. Located less than 40 miles from the ocean shores and just a short drive from the state capital, it provides an accessible escape for Connecticut residents seeking both adventure and relaxation.
Accessibility and a central location make The Quarry Campground a highly convenient choice for locals and visitors alike. Situated at 704 Shenipsit Lake Road, the park is easily reached from Interstate 84 and CT-30, making the commute from Hartford a brief 20-minute drive. The campground is designed to accommodate various camping styles, from traditional tent enthusiasts to "Big Rig" RVers. The sites are thoughtfully laid out to ensure ease of entry, featuring leveled gravel lanes and wide berths that simplify the setup process for larger vehicles.

What makes The Quarry Campground truly worth choosing is its successful balance of an "old-school" camping vibe with "new-school" cleanliness and service. For families in Connecticut, it represents a rare middle ground—it feels like a rugged adventure deep in the woods, yet it provides the safety and amenities of a high-end resort. The recent renovations have elevated the experience, ensuring that bathrooms are spotless, sites are well-kept, and the grounds are visually stunning. It is particularly worth choosing for those who value a community feel; the hospitable neighbors and friendly, professional staff create a welcoming environment that many guests describe as a home away from home.
Furthermore, the variety of site types ensures that every nature lover finds their perfect spot. From the shaded, secluded tent sites tucked under a canopy of pines to the spacious, sun-drenched pull-throughs for RVs, the park caters to diverse preferences. The addition of unique social events like karaoke and DJ nights adds a layer of excitement that distinguishes it from more traditional, quiet state parks. If you are looking for a place where you can spend the morning hiking, the afternoon swimming, and the evening dancing under the stars—all within a short drive of the city—The Quarry Campground is an exceptional choice for your next Connecticut getaway.

Just got home from a Friday-Sunday quick get away. Decided to stay close to MA so found this suggested park from RV Life. AMAZING time. The RV space was a pull through and was well kept. Neighbors were VERY hospitable. Park office and Staff were friendly, professional, polite and very helpful for all questions and purchase while on site. BEAUTIFUL well kept area, reasonably priced, ponds were well maintenance. Paddle boats, canoes, tons to do there! Many fun events happening and the evening DJ was an unexpected treat! Definitely a 5 Star place! No blackwater service, just a dump when leaving. Wasn't a problem especially with full shower bathrooms available 24hrs. LOVED the Staff and look forward to many getaways to Quarry!
Large campsite with a natural pool in the center, it was very busy on the weekend. We moved from the site they initially gave us to another site on the other side of the campsite. We were there one night on the weekend so it was very busy and with lots of dogs. The water connection point is far from the location where you can park the caravan directly.Friendly neighbors lent us an extension hose which was very helpful.Overall a nice campsite. Friendly staff.
We stayed a week here with our kids. We all had a great time. There was an activity for everyone to enjoy while also still feeling calm. We will absolutely be back in the future.
First, I want to talk about the staff…. They are wonderful. Each encounter has been met with kindness and thoughtfulness. The family vibe is what draws us back. I have been to several campgrounds and this by far has the cleanest grounds and most attentive staff I have encountered. Kudos to The Quarry Campground!!!!!
Tent camper here, it was nice! Electric and water hookups at each tent site makes it a breeze. Very clean facilities and easily accessible, no matter where you are. Plenty of activities to keep busy: corn hole, walking trails, horseshoe, kickball/baseball field, playground for children, designated swimming area, designated fishing pond. The store is stocked with everything you may need or forget! This campground was smaller than some I’ve visited, but no complaints. If you want to feel secluded & alone this might not be the one for you.
