Timberline Lake Camping Resort Introduce
Timberline Lake Camping Resort stands as a premier outdoor destination for New Jersey residents seeking a perfect balance between forest tranquility and coastal proximity. Nestled within 130 acres of the scenic Jersey Pine Barrens in New Gretna, this family-owned and operated resort has been a staple of the local camping community since 1968. For those living in the Garden State, it offers a "back to nature" escape that feels a world away from the suburban sprawl, while still providing the modern comforts that make a vacation truly relaxing. The resort is uniquely positioned to offer access to over 650,000 acres of protected wilderness, making it a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and anyone with a deep appreciation for the unique ecology of Southern New Jersey.
The atmosphere at Timberline Lake is one of inclusive, family-oriented fun. The resort prides itself on being an LGBTQ+ friendly destination and a transgender safespace, ensuring that all members of the New Jersey community feel welcome and secure under the canopy of the pines. Whether you are a seasonal resident who has returned for decades or a first-time tent camper, the park’s commitment to hospitality is evident. From the shaded, wooded campsites to the vibrant activity hubs near the lake and pool, Timberline Lake creates an environment where digital distractions fade and real-world connections are forged around the campfire.
Location and accessibility are two of the primary reasons Timberline Lake is a top choice for local campers. Situated at 365 County Road 679 in New Gretna, NJ, the resort is strategically located between major travel hubs. It is only about 25 minutes from the excitement of the Atlantic City boardwalk and casinos, and a similar distance from the pristine beaches of Long Beach Island. This "gateway" location allows residents from Northern or Central Jersey to easily reach the resort via the Garden State Parkway (Exit 50 or 52), making it an ideal spot for a quick weekend getaway or a full summer residency. The surrounding area of Burlington County provides a quiet, rural backdrop with essential services like grocery stores and local eateries just a short drive away.
For those who enjoy day trips, the resort serves as a perfect home base. Residents can spend a morning hiking the Batona Trail or kayaking through the cedar-stained waters of the Mullica River, and be back at their campsite in time for a sunset barbecue. The resort's proximity to the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge also offers incredible opportunities for photography and nature study. This seamless blend of remote wilderness access and proximity to New Jersey’s famous coastal attractions is a rare find in the regional camping market.

What is worth choosing about Timberline Lake Camping Resort is the heritage and heart that goes into its operation. In an era where many campgrounds are being bought out by large corporations, Timberline remains a family-owned business that values the personal touch. Choosing this resort means choosing a community where the employees are known for being helpful and where the grounds are maintained with a level of care that only comes from decades of ownership. The specific layout of the park—offering both wooded seclusion and lakefront activity—means you can tailor your experience to be as social or as private as you desire.
Furthermore, for New Jersey residents, the resort offers an unbeatable value proposition. The inclusion of amenities like beach tags and themed activities makes it a cost-effective way to enjoy a comprehensive vacation. The commitment to being a safe and welcoming space for everyone, including pets and the LGBTQ+ community, reflects a modern, inclusive New Jersey spirit. Whether you are looking for a place to park your RV for the entire summer or just a quiet corner of the Pine Barrens to pitch a tent for the weekend, Timberline Lake Camping Resort provides a high-quality, authentic experience that captures the best of the Garden State's great outdoors.

Customer Reviews
This campground is a great find. They have seasonal sites but also have cabins, sites for rvs and most importantly for me sites for tents.sites are good size and if need more room get 2. Beautiful lakes for swimming, fishing and kayaks.they also have nice pool and nice enclosed area for dogs to have a break from their leash. The store is nice and has what you need. Employees are very friendly and helpful. They also have special events on the weekends if you care to leave your relaxing campsite. Recently they even had a fundraiser for local fire department. Just an overall great place! I love it!
I love this campground, been coming here for the past 3 years. Beautiful lake, decent sized pool. I love that they have themed weekends; Crafts and exciting activities for the kids. Its quiet and peaceful, home away from home 🙃
We rented the 2 deluxe cabins. They were both very dirty. I had to scrub the bathroom for about an hour. It looked like it was never cleaned. The toilet was so dirty, full of hair and pee. The shower was covered in dirt. We couldn't use the fans since they had about 2 inches of dust in them. There was old trash and dirty tissues under my bed. The porch was covered in dirt, cob webs and spiders. The tables and chairs were very dusty and stained . When I called to complain the cleaning lady came to our cabins and gave us a free $7 bundle of wood, although we paid $1200 for the week..
READ THEIR CANCELLATION POLICY BEFORE BOOKING. I did, in fact, read it before I made my booking, as I had every intention of showing up for our reservation on 9/5/25. Unfortunately, life happens. In my case, (I am an RN) a VERY unfortunate situation has led me to now have to cover for my coworker that weekend. I canceled with Timberline Lake Resort 24 days prior to our reservation. They kept my deposit of $79 and then CHARGED me $20 for canceling (they get a total of $79 from me). They said the $59 can be used as a credit at their campground if used within a year. Charging the $20 to cancel is just plain thievery in my opinion. Hotels give you a full refund with 24 hours notice. So no, I prefer not to do business with this campground if this is the way THEY conduct business. With a fair cancellation policy, they could have gained a new customer. 24 days in advance is plenty notice that it should be reasonable that I get my $79 back. I’ve been robbed.
Beautiful campground with large sites. Everything is well maintained and clean. Lots of close activities including tons of off road trails in the Wharton State Forest. Thank you for a great stay!
