Tuckahoe Acres Introduce

For Delawareans seeking the ultimate coastal escape without the crowds of the major resort boardwalks, Tuckahoe Acres stands as a hidden gem in the heart of Sussex County. Located in the quiet community of Dagsboro, this family-owned and operated campground has spent over 50 years cultivating a unique atmosphere often described by its residents as a "little slice of paradise." Situated directly on the banks of the Indian River Bay, Tuckahoe Acres offers a rare blend of waterfront tranquility and active community life. It is primarily a seasonal campground, serving as a summer home for many Delaware families who return year after year to enjoy the bay breezes and spectacular sunsets that define the region.

The spirit of Tuckahoe Acres is rooted in its history as a family farm transformed into a recreational haven. Today, it spans a significant area with over 500 sites, focusing heavily on a community-first model. Unlike transient campgrounds that see a constant rotation of strangers, the seasonal nature of Tuckahoe Acres fosters deep-rooted friendships and a neighborhood feel. It is a place where multiple generations of the same family often camp in adjacent sites, creating a safe and welcoming environment where children can roam and explore. Whether you are interested in the thrill of water sports on the bay or the simple pleasure of a community potluck, this campground provides the infrastructure to make those memories possible.

Location and accessibility are two of the most practical reasons Delaware residents choose Tuckahoe Acres. Located at 36031 Tuckahoe Trail in Dagsboro, the park is strategically positioned away from the heavy traffic of Route 1, yet it remains just a short 15-to-20-minute drive from the popular Atlantic beaches of Bethany and Fenwick Island. For locals coming from Northern Delaware or nearby Maryland, the park is easily accessible via Route 113 or Route 26. The entrance is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, featuring wheelchair-accessible facilities to ensure that all family members can participate in the fun. Its proximity to the Indian River Bay means that boaters and anglers have immediate access to the water, with a marina conveniently located right next door to the property.

The services offered at Tuckahoe Acres are comprehensive, designed to make "living at the beach" as convenient as possible. The park operates a well-stocked camp store that serves as the community hub, offering everything from ice cream and snacks to essential RV supplies at fair prices. For those who enjoy the social side of camping, the resort hosts a robust calendar of events, including adult water aerobics, bingo nights, and organized holiday celebrations. Practical needs are met with high-quality onsite facilities, including clean public restrooms, running water at all sites, and modern laundry rooms, allowing families to spend the entire summer season in total comfort.

  • RV Camping Sites: Over 500 sites featuring full hookups for seasonal residents.
  • Camp Store & Ice Cream Bar: A convenient on-site shop for groceries, treats, and camping gear.
  • Comprehensive Amenities: Clean public restrooms, hot showers, and high-capacity laundry facilities.
  • Social Activities: Scheduled events including water aerobics, church services, and community socials.
  • Security & Maintenance: A gated environment with a professional staff dedicated to park upkeep and safety.

The features and highlights of Tuckahoe Acres center on its spectacular waterfront location. The private bay beach is a highlight for many, offering a clean and safe area for children to play in the shallow water or for families to launch a day of crabbing and clamming. The campground is famous for its sunsets, which draw residents to the shoreline every evening. For those who prefer freshwater, the large in-ground swimming pool provides a refreshing alternative to the bay. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts, while children often congregate at the modern playground or the onsite arcade. The inclusion of a dedicated dog park ensures that even the family pet has a space to enjoy the Delaware outdoors.

  • Private Bay Beach: A well-maintained shoreline perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and launching small watercraft.
  • In-Ground Swimming Pool: A large, fenced pool area featuring specific hours for water aerobics and family fun.
  • Water Activities: Exceptional access for fishing, crabbing, and clamming directly from the park grounds.
  • Recreational Courts: Facilities for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and horseshoes.
  • Kids' Entertainment: A modern playground, an arcade for rainy days, and a cornhole turf field.
  • Pet-Friendly Spaces: A dedicated dog park and pet-welcoming atmosphere throughout the community.

If you are considering making Tuckahoe Acres your seasonal home, the best way to get started is by contacting their office to learn about site availability and the process for purchasing a park model home. What a great place to spend time with the family. My parents recently bought a camper here and getting my mom to come back home has been the most difficult part! The beach is kept clean and the sunsets are beautiful. There's a swimming pool as well as a camp store that to my surprise doesn't charge an arm and a leg for the items there. They have scheduled social events several times a week and a church service is available on Sundays to whoever wants to attend. I love it here!
