What is worth choosing about Turkey Swamp Campground is the exceptional balance of price and quality for a local getaway. While some may find the cabin rates slightly higher than basic tent sites, the inclusion of climate control and modern electrical outlets makes them a valuable choice for those camping in the shoulder seasons or with small children. The level, pull-through sites are particularly worth choosing for RV owners, as they eliminate the stress of backing into tight wooded spaces, allowing you more time to enjoy the surroundings.
Furthermore, choosing Turkey Swamp means choosing a community-oriented environment where safety and cleanliness are top priorities. The presence of friendly, helpful park rangers and the nightly locking of the park gates provide a sense of security that is often missing at more remote locations. The cleanliness of the bathrooms and the consistent availability of hot water are frequently praised by seasoned campers, making it a reliable choice for families who want a "rugged" experience without sacrificing hygiene. Ultimately, Turkey Swamp Campground is worth choosing because it offers a complete package: a pristine natural setting, excellent amenities, and a location that puts the best of Monmouth County right at your doorstep.

Nice campground that sits next to the park. I stayed in the cabin for an ultimate frisbee tournament. The layout is smartly designed and the roads are well-maintained. The cabins were decent. Clean, windows fitted well, and beds weren't bad. Tons of power outlets inside which is great, although there were no exterior outlets which feels like an oversight. The pull-through sites have outlets outside but not the cabin, so if you want to cook outside or have a heater or something bring an extension cord. Not much space inside, we had three people and it felt full, although it can sleep up to five or six. There was some insulation in the walls, but the space heater made a huge difference. The price for a cabin is somewhat steep at $80+ per night. No linens, towels, or pillows is disappointing for that price point. The restrooms and laundry area is a short walk and the showers (three in the men's room) have tons of hot water with no wait. That was pretty nice. There is a nice large playground next to the restrooms. Note they do lock the gate at night so you can't get in or out. They should consider an automatic gate, but I realize budget may not support that. It's possible a ranger could let you in or out if you asked at night, I'm not sure. Overall I think it's a solid campground but a little pricey.
We found a treasure by going to Turkey Swamp campground. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The sites are level, pull through, pet friendly and spacious. There are plenty of activities...hiking, biking, fishing, boating, playgrounds or sitting by a campfire. Interested in going to the beach for a day trip? Manasquan is 25 minutes away. Can't wait to go again...and again.
What a gem! We stumbled on this park to make a stop at a nearby RV dealer and were so glad we did. The roomy pull through sites are reasonably level, requiring only slight adjustment. The hard packed clay park roads stayed firm even after overnight torrential rains. Bring a long hose since the water connections are between sites. The friendly ranger offered us a loaner if we didn’t have one that would do the job. The laundry facilities were clean and up to date ($2 wash/dry)., and no change is required since payment is via app. This is a well maintained CG, suitable for small to medium size rigs due to the narrow park roads. Verizon and T-Mobile signals were good. Not a good park for Starlink due to dense tree cover.
we only stayed one night and it was raining in the morning so we didn't get to explore the trails.. but we will definitely be back because this is one of the nicest campgrounds in NJ. large wooded sites.
Gorgeous lake very clean as well as the grounds nice fish in the lake very peaceful and a lot of parking
