Wild Hudson Valley Introduce
For New York residents seeking a departure from the traditional crowded campsite experience, Wild Hudson Valley offers a refreshing alternative that prioritizes ecological connection and hands-on learning. Located in the picturesque hamlet of Leeds, within the northern reaches of the Hudson Valley and the shadow of the Catskill Mountains, this destination is much more than a simple place to pitch a tent. It operates as a multi-faceted entity—part campground, part working farm, and part education center—dedicated to preserving the wild heritage of the region while inviting visitors to become active participants in the landscape. This site appeals particularly to those who value sustainability, biodiversity, and the quiet joy of the Great Outdoors.
Wild Hudson Valley distinguishes itself by offering an immersive experience where the boundary between "guest" and "naturalist" begins to blur. Managed by local experts Anna and Justin, the property serves as a hub for ethnobotanical research and forest farming. Visitors often find themselves learning about the intricacies of native plants, such as American Ginseng, or participating in guided tours that explain the delicate balance of the local ecosystem. From the perspective of a local New Yorker, it is a rare opportunity to engage with the land in a way that feels both educational and restorative. Whether you are coming up from the city or traveling from nearby Albany, the atmosphere encourages a total disconnection from digital noise and a profound reconnection with the sights, sounds, and scents of the New York wilderness.
Location and accessibility are key components of the Wild Hudson Valley experience. Situated at 408 Lake Mills Rd in Leeds, NY, the campground is remarkably easy to reach for travelers utilizing the New York State Thruway (I-87). It sits in a prime location that bridges the gap between the vibrant arts communities of Catskill and Hudson and the rugged hiking trails of the high peaks. Upon arrival, guests find a property that balances its wild nature with practical amenities. The facility features on-site parking to ensure a smooth transition from the car to the campsite, and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot is provided to accommodate visitors with varying mobility needs. The layout of the camping areas is designed to maintain a sense of seclusion and privacy, allowing each group to feel as though they have discovered their own private corner of the forest.
- Professional guided nature tours focusing on local flora, fauna, and traditional forest skills.
- Educational programming included in the camping fee, offering deep dives into the Hudson Valley's natural history.
- Dedicated tent camping sites that prioritize a low-impact, "leave no trace" philosophy.
- On-site farm services where guests can learn about forest farming and sustainable agriculture.
- Organized community events such as the "Friday Night Fire and Snores" which combine campfire storytelling with overnight stays.

- Access to clean, potable water and basic amenities that support a comfortable yet authentic camping experience.
The features and highlights of Wild Hudson Valley are deeply rooted in the concept of "comfortable camping." This is not a place of paved pads and neon signs; instead, it offers a playground of natural wonders. For families, the campground is a treasure trove of discovery. Children are encouraged to explore the creek, hunt for frogs, and learn about the local insect populations in a safe, guided environment. The "kid-approved" camping popcorn has even become a bit of a local legend among frequent visitors. Furthermore, the campground is widely recognized for its inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. It is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly and serves as a transgender safespace, ensuring that all New Yorkers, regardless of their background, can feel secure and celebrated in the outdoors.
- Extensive network of hiking trails that wind through diverse habitats, including forests and riparian zones.
- Kid-friendly hiking paths specifically designed for shorter legs and curious minds.
- A natural playground environment that encourages imaginative play and physical activity.
- Opportunities for birdwatching, with frequent sightings of owls and other native avian species.
- Creek access for wading, soaking, and observing aquatic life during the warmer summer months.
- Interactive education center focusing on forest crops like ginseng and mushrooms.
- Safe and inclusive crowd environment specifically designated as a transgender safespace.

Customer Reviews
We camped at Wild Hudson Valley and brought our own tent and took along our 5 year old. WE HAD A BLAST!What a great place to disconnect and reconnect with nature! We enjoyed exploring the trails, taking part in their tours and Friday night fire and snores. Anna and Justin are amazing, their knowledge, willingness to share their expertise, they are amazing hosts. We enjoyed soaking in the creek, looking for frogs, catching bugs and hearing owls at night. This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and comfortable camping. As a birder, I enjoyed being able to hear and see birds, introduce my daughter to camping and nature, just a really great time, especially if you take up the offer to join the programs included in the fee.We really hope to do this again!Thank you again for an amazing stay, and the best camping popcorn (kid approved!!).
Back in 2019, I was gifted a few ginseng roots from Anna and Justin. I planted them in areas they had suggested, and then forgot about them. Imagine my surprise when in the fall of 2024 I found the plants fruiting ! They are beautiful healthy plants and I have found all the areas I planted these original roots. They have all grown flowered and set fruit. I ordered another bunch this fall and have them tucked in the soil. I will share a few pictures I am very fond of these plants.
My wife and I had an incredible time staying at WHV for a birthday weekend camping trip. Justin and Anna are wonderful hosts that create the most welcoming atmosphere. We made connections with other campers and learned more than I ever have in any classroom during Justin’s guided nature walks. Justin and Anna are both incredibly knowledgeable about the natural world around us and the magical retreat they’ve cultivated here in the Hudson valley. 10/10 highly recommend to anyone, especially families.

I stayed at Wild Hudson Valley's Eco Camp at the end of May for research and to support a forest farming workshop led by Anna and Justin. The tent I stayed is was so clean and cozy, and the site is peaceful and beautiful beyond belief! There are tons of trails through the woods and along Catskill Creek, plenty of open space for parking, outlets and tables for working and cooking, and really clean bathrooms and showers! Anna and Justin are also so communicative and friendly--I can't wait to visit again! Highly recommend staying here :)
