Willow Pond RV Campground Introduce
Willow Pond RV Campground, often referred to as a "FamCamp," is a specialized recreational destination located within the secure perimeter of Fort Dix, part of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) in New Jersey. Designed specifically to serve the military community, this campground offers a unique opportunity for active-duty service members, retirees, and DoD civilians to enjoy the natural beauty of the Garden State from the safety and convenience of a military installation. Nestled alongside the serene waters of Willow Pond, the campground provides a tranquil setting that contrasts with the active operational environment of the base, making it a popular choice for those looking to unwind without traveling far from base services.
The atmosphere at Willow Pond is one of rustic simplicity. It is not a sprawling commercial resort, but rather a focused, 8-site facility that prioritizes accessibility and value. For local New Jersey residents with base access, it serves as an excellent "staycation" spot where they can enjoy freshwater fishing, observe local wildlife, and experience the quietude of the Pine Barrens region. While the base is an active hub of military activity during the week, the weekends at Willow Pond are notably peaceful, offering a sense of seclusion that is often hard to find in the more densely populated areas of Burlington County.
Location and accessibility are primary features of the Willow Pond experience. The campground is situated at 5219 8th St, Fort Dix, NJ 08640, USA. Its central location on the Fort Dix side of the joint base makes it incredibly convenient for patrons who want to stay close to essential military facilities like the Commissary, Exchange, and various MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) outlets. Access to the campground requires authorized entry onto JBMDL, and travelers with large RVs are specifically advised to use the Route 68 gate to avoid height and weight restrictions found at other entry points.
Navigating the campground itself is straightforward, though first-time visitors should note that check-in typically occurs at the Outdoor Recreation (ODR) office before heading to the sites. The campground is located at the intersection of 8th Street and Texas Avenue, with sites lined up along a row of trees that provide a natural buffer. Its proximity to Trenton, Philadelphia, and even the Jersey Shore makes it a strategic basecamp for those who wish to explore the wider New Jersey and Pennsylvania region while enjoying the security and cost-savings of a military-managed site.
Willow Pond RV Campground focuses on providing essential services for the modern RVer. The services offered include:
- RV Camping Sites: Eight back-in gravel sites that are level and well-spaced to accommodate various lengths of recreational vehicles.
- Electrical Hookups: Each site is equipped with 20-amp and 30-amp electrical service, ensuring consistent power for camper appliances.
- Water Hookups: Sites feature fresh water connections; however, it is recommended to use these to fill your freshwater tank due to high pressure.
- On-Site Dump Station: A clean and accessible dump station is located at the entrance of the campground for convenient waste management.
- Online Reservation System: Patrons can handle paperwork and reservations through the 87th Force Support Squadron’s digital portal, simplifying the planning process.

The highlights of Willow Pond are centered on its natural surroundings and the unique amenities available to military families. Features and highlights include:

What is worth choosing at Willow Pond RV Campground is the incredible value and security it offers to the military community in New Jersey. At a daily rate that is significantly lower than private campgrounds in the Burlington County area, it provides a safe, level, and scenic place to park an RV. It is worth choosing for travelers who prioritize a quiet weekend atmosphere and those who enjoy being in the middle of a historic military installation. The proximity to freshwater fishing right at your doorstep is a rare luxury for many RVers, and the ability to walk or drive just a mile to the Commissary and BX adds a layer of convenience that is hard to beat.
Furthermore, Willow Pond is the ideal choice for "bare bones" camping where the focus is on the environment and personal relaxation. While the facilities are basic—such as the presence of a vault toilet rather than a full bathhouse—the cleanliness of the sites and the hospitality of the Outdoor Rec staff make it a reliable choice. If you are a veteran or active-duty member looking for a no-frills, secure, and beautiful place to spend a few nights in the Jersey pines, Willow Pond RV Campground is an excellent and factual choice. It embodies the MWR mission by providing a quality outdoor space for those who serve, ensuring a peaceful retreat within the gates of Fort Dix.

All around good rv camping with a couple of caveats. The bathroom is not very well maintained and is in need of some general maintenance (e.g. broken toilet handles, broken toilet roll dispenser, shiny metal instead of mirrors). We showered at the field house (5 min drive) since we have a smaller camper and didn't want to fill the gray water tank. Also, spots back up to a main road that is highly trafficked by large army trucks all day long on the weekdays. This is an active base so it's to be expected, just a warning for others coming here. Willow Pond is beautiful with lots of wildlife and hungry large mouth bass in the mornings. Overall it's an ok rv campground and it's peaceful on the weekends.
Only 8 sites available with only 30A and water for $20/night for military/retired mil. There is a dump station on site. The gravel sites are level, all back in, and have a nice view of a grass area and a small lake. It looked like there was only one long term camper, and no host. The bathrooms were locked; not sure if they ever open. Although you have to do all the paperwork on line and email it in, they still make you drive over to Outdoor Rec to check in.The gas station on the Ft. Dix side closes each evening. If you need after hours fuel, drive over to the station on the McGuire side of the joint base.
A tad muddy when it rains and dump station is partially blocked by a dumpster, however, being on base and having electricity makes it a reasonable stay. Would be perfect for a few nights in the area with a trailer. Had to go through the commercial gate in a big class A and that was an experience.
Nice place, but not many amenities. Bathrooms closed, and the cell phone reception was not good. When it rains, it gets a bit muddy. You need a military id to access the base.
Camp Ground that only takes in person reservations? Active Duty military members traveling on orders can' not make a reservation before they get there. Let me say that again. You have to travel to the office to have your ID checked before you can make a reservation.
