What is worth choosing at Winding River Campground often comes down to the specific type of outdoor experience you desire. For the active visitor, choosing the canoe or kayak rental is a must. The river provides a serene and challenging environment that is best navigated with a paddle, allowing you to see the Jersey wilderness from a unique perspective. Unlike tubing, which can be difficult in certain sections of the river due to natural logs and brush, kayaking allows for precision and speed, making it the superior way to enjoy the local water trails. The river's natural state means it remains an authentic ecosystem, rewarding those who come prepared for a traditional paddling trip.
For RV owners, choosing one of the wooded sites is highly recommended. While the trees can require careful navigation when backing in, the resulting shade and privacy are well worth the effort. The presence of full hookups, including electric and water, means you don't have to sacrifice comfort while enjoying the rugged aesthetic of the park. Additionally, families should prioritize the areas near the playground and picnic zones, as these serve as excellent hubs for social interaction and supervised play. Choosing Winding River Campground means opting for an authentic, traditional camping experience where the natural landscape is the star of the show.
Safety and preparedness are key components of a successful stay. As the campground is situated in a dense forest, visitors should be mindful of the natural environment, including falling acorns during certain seasons and the typical wildlife found in New Jersey's woodlands. The staff works hard to maintain the balance between a wild river experience and a managed campground, providing a space where campers can enjoy the elements while having access to modern payment systems and clean facilities. Whether you are staying for a night or a week, the combination of river access and wooded seclusion makes this Mays Landing destination a standout choice for local residents and visitors alike.

Typical campground. Nicely wooded but gee wiz the falling acorns are deadly lol ware a hat. Most of the camping spots are generous but can be difficult to navigate with the trees.
Do not go tubing here unless you have a paddle, absolutely horrible experience tubing which they don’t try to talk you out of. Not fun at all for the $160 spent on 4 tubes and a cooler tube. This is a water trail for kayaks, not tubes. Don’t waste your money unless you enjoy spending every other minute pulling yourself out of thorn bushes or wrapped around the logs everywhere. Also, a lot of drunk idiots, including one dude wanting to fight because he’s peeing infront of peoples kids.
Me and my family just came back from a small 3 day camping trip staying at a cabin. the cabin was pretty clean there was a little dirt as expected from staying at a campground. the cabin was kept cold from air conditioning and it the beds were very comfy. there was what looked like a stove that was very old but it’s okay bc we love cooking on the fire. tubing is a 10/10 experience you they take you out in a big white van on what seemed like a 15 minute drive and you cruise down the river there is parts where you have to paddle away from sticks and parts where it’s really shallow but it’s a nature that’s what your signing up for. (I do recommend a mesh bottom if you want to bring food or your phones) also the workers there are super nice they let me and my friend play pool until it closed and they were very kind to us every time we went in the store. The bathhouses are a little older you can tell from walking in but it still works perfectly fine the showers were hot and they give you a place to change it was a great experience compared to other campgrounds. there isn’t much to do once it gets late but sitting at the lake is very peaceful and walking around and admiring the other campers is a good way to pass time. Overall i recommend this campground we had a great time
Amazing area to go tubing. Staff is super friendly and amazing. Thank you Lord Commander.
Had a great memorial day weekend here. Their river trip is no joke in a canoe a lot of challenging obstacles to navigate. We loved it.
