Black Bear RV Park, formerly known as Black Bear Campground, is a premier outdoor destination located in the picturesque town of Florida, New York. Situated in the heart of scenic Orange County, this park offers a serene retreat for RV enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley. Whether you are a local New Yorker seeking a weekend escape or a traveler exploring the Empire State, the park provides a well-maintained and quiet environment that balances rustic charm with modern convenience. Open year-round, it serves as a versatile home base for experiencing everything from the vibrant fall foliage to the tranquil winter landscapes of the region.

The community at Black Bear RV Park is characterized by its peaceful atmosphere and attentive management. Recent ownership changes have brought a renewed focus on improving the facilities and enhancing the guest experience. The park is designed to accommodate a variety of needs, featuring level sites and a layout that prioritizes ease of access. For many visitors, the draw is not just the park itself but its proximity to the diverse attractions of the Hudson Valley, making it a highly functional choice for those who want to explore local wineries, historic sites, and charming small-town boutiques while enjoying the comforts of their own recreational vehicle.

Location and accessibility are among the park's strongest suits. Located at 197 Wheeler Rd, Florida, NY 10921, the park is approximately 60 miles from New York City, making it an accessible getaway for residents of the five boroughs and the surrounding metropolitan area. The entrance is designed to be wheelchair accessible, and the on-site parking lot also offers accessible spaces to ensure all guests can navigate the grounds comfortably. The park's position atop a hill provides scenic views of the surrounding woods and local wildlife, creating a feeling of seclusion despite being just a short drive from major thoroughfares and local conveniences.

For those traveling with larger rigs, the park offers both back-in and pull-thru sites that are well-marked and easy to navigate. The proximity to the village of Florida means that essentials like groceries, fuel, and local dining are never far away. Additionally, the park is a perfect staging point for day trips to nearby Warwick, Chester, and Goshen, allowing visitors to experience the famous black dirt region and the various seasonal festivals that define Orange County's cultural calendar.

What is worth choosing about Black Bear RV Park is the combination of its strategic Hudson Valley location and its commitment to a "full-service" camping experience. Unlike more primitive sites, the full hookups here ensure that you can enjoy the great outdoors without sacrificing the basic comforts of home. The park's transition under new ownership has led to a noticeable emphasis on maintenance and cleanliness, providing a reliable environment for both short-term travelers and those looking for an extended stay. The peaceful, quiet nature of the grounds makes it an ideal spot for those who truly want to disconnect from the city's noise while remaining close enough to civilization for a hassle-free trip.

Furthermore, the park's year-round operation makes it a rare find in the Northeast, offering a unique opportunity for "four-season" RVing. Whether you are visiting in the summer to hike the local trails or in the autumn to enjoy the famous local apple orchards, Black Bear RV Park serves as a consistently high-quality basecamp. The helpfulness of the staff and the straightforward, functional layout of the sites mean that even novice RVers will find it easy to set up and start enjoying their vacation immediately. For families, the safety and kid-friendly atmosphere provide peace of mind, making it a top-tier choice for a memorable New York camping adventure.

A vert quiet RV park. We had a full hookup sites. There were no additional facilities. The sites were level, though somewhat small. It recently went through a name change and it appeared the new owner was trying to improve the campground. It was pricey for what you got.

We had a great stay! The location is perfect—we loved exploring the beautiful Hudson Valley and all the great places nearby. The campground was peaceful, clean, and well maintained. Our site was easy to pull into and the hookups were all in great condition.

This campground was a convenient location for our visit to the lower Hudson Valley. It is only about an hour and fifteen minutes to New York City, so it could even be used as a base for visits there. It was quiet, and clean. There are no amenities nor on-site staff. The campground is recently under new ownership, and is now called Serenity Ridge Mountain Club. What had been the upper campground is being transformed into a "luxury park model resort." It will be interesting to see what happens to the RV campground. Hopefully, it will remain, and maybe even get some updates. It would be a shame if its days were numbered, since there are not many options in this part of the world.Details:We stayed on site 20, back-in FHU, 50/30/20 pedestal tall enough for Watchdog to clear ground, water, 4" threaded sewer.Water pressure varies from on the low side of okay to low.Utilities are toward the front of the site, but I had to back toward the rear of the site because it is more level toward the rear, so I had to use the extensions for both the electrical and the water, and multiple 10' sections of sewer hose.Toward the rear of the site, level enough to allow auto-leveling with nothing under the tires.Gravel with grass / weeds growing up through it.Spacing was snug on the awning side; with our awning extended, it went right to the edge of the adjacent site. Spacing is very generous on the other side.Water faucet is 1/4 turn and is low to the ground.Picnic table, fire ring. The odd numbered sites in our section are on the uphill side of the road so they slope down toward the front. The even numbered on in our section are on the downside side of the road so they slope down toward the rear.Big rig friendly.OTA TV: 2 France 24, one english, one french, old movies, shopping, that's about it. No PBS, no major networks.AT&T 9.00 Mbps down, 2.57 Mbps up; Verizon 1 bar 5G, 13.3 Mbps down, 2.61 Mbps up.There are a number of restaurants in nearby Florida, and just about anything you would need within a twenty minute drive.

Hwy 17A is restricted to 10 ton, so not big rig friendly. Site was 50 amp, but voltage dropped to 112v and with 3 a/c and appliances voltage dropped further, and our power manager shut down our power to protect our appliances and a/c. Paid over $95 for a site with dirt, sand, some rock, mowed weeds, and NO amenities. In our 11 yrs of full-time RV living, it's not the worst place, but it's in the bottom 5. They do have good water pressure!
