Camp Meade RV Park Introduce

For military families and Department of Defense (DoD) cardholders navigating the Maryland region, Camp Meade RV Park stands as a premier destination for secure and affordable outdoor recreation. Located within the historic grounds of Fort George G. Meade, this campground—often referred to as a "FAMCAMP"—provides a unique blend of mission-ready discipline and relaxed vacation vibes. It is strategically positioned to serve those who are either stationed in the area or traveling through the Baltimore-Washington corridor, offering a quiet retreat that remains close to the bustling hubs of Annapolis and the nation's capital.

The park is managed by the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) and is specifically designed to meet the high standards expected by service members. The atmosphere at Camp Meade is one of mutual respect and community, where level, spacious sites allow for easy setup of even the largest rigs. Recent visitors have highlighted the park as a "hidden gem," noting that the combination of gated security and well-laid-out infrastructure makes it a standout choice among regional military campgrounds. Whether you are looking for a weekend of "forest bathing" or a convenient home base for sightseeing, the park provides a professional and welcoming environment for all authorized patrons.

Location and accessibility are among the most significant advantages of staying at Camp Meade. Situated at 2300 Wilson Street in Fort Meade, MD, the park is central to three major metropolitan areas: Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. This central location makes it an ideal spot for those wishing to visit the U.S. Naval Academy, the Inner Harbor, or the Smithsonian museums. For travelers using public transit, the park is approximately one mile from a train station that provides direct access to both Baltimore and D.C., allowing guests to bypass city traffic while exploring historic landmarks.

Accessing the park requires entry through the installation's secure gates, typically via the Reece Road gate, which is open 24 hours a day. The campground itself is gated with a secure code provided upon check-in, ensuring a safe environment for families and solo travelers alike. Within the park, the management has ensured that facilities are inclusive, featuring wheelchair-accessible entrances, designated parking lots, and accessible restroom facilities. The park is well-marked with clear signage and paved one-way streets, though drivers of large "big rigs" should exercise caution as some turns within the post can be tight.

The services offered at Camp Meade RV Park are designed to provide a "full service" experience that rivals commercial campgrounds while maintaining the benefits of a military installation. From high-speed Wi-Fi in common areas to on-site laundry, the facility is equipped to handle both short-term vacations and extended stays for those transitioning between duty stations.

  • Full-hookup RV sites featuring 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical service, along with dedicated water and sewer connections.
  • Four rustic two-room camper cabins that sleep up to six guests, equipped with heat, air conditioning, and fire rings.
  • On-site administrative office for check-in and reservations, staffed by helpful MWR personnel.
  • Full-service laundry facility and a community lounge area featuring books, games, and television.
  • A camp store providing essential supplies, firewood, propane sales, and snack items for campers.
  • Dedicated tent sites with access to running water and public restrooms for a traditional camping experience.
  • Clean public shower facilities and restrooms located in the central bathhouse building (#2301).
  • Acceptance of multiple payment methods, including major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) and debit cards.

The features and highlights of the park extend beyond the individual campsites, offering a variety of recreational outlets for all ages. Because the park is on a military installation, guests also have easy access to broader base amenities like the Commissary and Exchange, which can significantly simplify the logistics of a long-term stay. The park itself is surrounded by lush greenery, providing a shaded and serene backdrop for outdoor relaxation.

  • Proximity to world-class base facilities including an Auto Hobby Shop, bowling center, and fitness centers.
  • A safe, modern playground that is popular with children and conveniently located near the camping loops.
  • Extensive picnic areas equipped with barbecue grills and sturdy tables for outdoor family gatherings.
  • A pet-friendly environment where dogs are welcomed, provided they are leashed and have valid shot records.
  • Access to local recreational equipment rentals and proximity to boating and fishing spots in the general area.
  • Organized events such as the Youth Fishing Rodeo and seasonal newcomer orientations for military spouses.
  • Safe walking paths throughout the park and a 5 MPH speed limit to protect pedestrians and playing children.
  • Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM to ensure a peaceful environment for all residents to enjoy their campfires.

To ensure a smooth stay, all campers are required to check in at the Administrative Building (Building 2300). For late arrivals or weekend check-ins, it is a standard professional practice to contact the reservation line a day prior to receive gate codes and site information. Remember that as a military-only park, you must possess a valid US DoD ID card or be sponsored by an authorized service member to utilize these facilities.

When deciding on an RV destination in the Maryland region, Camp Meade RV Park is worth choosing because it offers an unmatched level of security and value for the military community. Unlike civilian parks in the same price bracket, Camp Meade provides the stability and standards of a military installation, where neighbors hold themselves to a "higher standard" of cleanliness and courtesy. The spacious, level sites are frequently cited as superior to those found in local state-run or commercial parks, offering enough room for slide-outs and outdoor gear without feeling cramped.

Furthermore, the park is worth choosing for its strategic proximity to the Arundel Mills Mall and Bass Pro Shops, which are just three miles away, providing excellent shopping and dining options for a night out. For those who enjoy the "seasonal life," the park offers a well-maintained community atmosphere where long-term residents and weekenders coexist in a gated, quiet environment. Choosing Camp Meade means supporting the MWR programs that give back to the military community while enjoying some of the most convenient and affordable camping in the Maryland area. Whether you are there to see the cherry blossoms in D.C. or simply to relax by a campfire in a safe setting, Camp Meade RV Park delivers an experience that is both respectful of your service and perfect for your leisure.

Ultimately, the true value of Camp Meade lies in its identity as a "gem" for those who serve. It is a place where the staff is friendly, the grounds are kept up with full-service hookups, and the location serves as a gateway to the best that the Mid-Atlantic region has to offer. If you are an authorized patron looking for a reliable, professional, and family-oriented campground, this Fort Meade facility is an outstanding choice for your next Maryland adventure.

We spent a month at Camp Meade RV Park and truly feel this place is a gem. The sites are clean, spacious, and well laid out, no complaints there at all.The issues are with the shared spaces. The game room is often messy, and the laundry room regularly has detergent spills, lint, and pet hair left behind. As dog owners, we always wipe down the washers and clear the lint traps after every load; we just wish others, especially fellow pet owners, would do the same. A few long-term residents also aren’t keeping their sites neat, and there doesn’t appear to be any enforcement.Because this is a military-only park, we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. Simply clean up after yourself!! Another small courtesy… try not to leave bright white string lights glaring all night, as they make it hard for others to enjoy a peaceful campfire. MWR should assign someone to make daily rounds, enforce the standards consistently, and have a supervisor conduct spot checks to ensure the work is actually being done…“check, recheck, and check again!”Camp Meade could be truly outstanding if the common areas and rule enforcement matched the quality of the campsites, and I say this out of respect and appreciation for the benefit we’re fortunate to have and enjoy.

We totally enjoyed our stay. The bathroom/lounge/laundry is very clean. The sites are level and a nice size. The camp store staff is friendly. Fast food and gas stations are close by. The grounds are kept up and sites are full service. You have to have served or sponsored by a service person prior to your stay. We'll be back.

I would have given this location a higher rating. The park itself is very nice. Standard FHU and nice spacing. Greenery a bit over grown but it's manageable. However the ODR customer service and weekly moving to a different spot really dampened the experience. For some reason, almost half of the RV campers are required to move weekly. Some people who will stay longer periods of time had to move 4 times. When asked the reason why, all said they didn't know the reason, despite their spot being open for several days afterwards. Most people thought it was a power trip issue bc ODR WOULD NOT provide a reason either. So think twice before committing.

Quiet Shaded Park, Never seem to cut the grass. No after hours staff. Grass growing in the patio areas. No place to boat or kyack. Not much for children to do at the campground. It's ok.
