Camp William B. Snyder, Boy Scouts of America Introduce
Located in the serene rural crescent of Prince William County, Camp William B. Snyder serves as a cornerstone for outdoor education and youth development in the Virginia region. Spanning approximately 325 to 350 acres, this facility is owned and operated by the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its opening in 2006, it has established itself as one of the few campgrounds in the United States specifically designed to accommodate the needs of younger scouts and family groups, while also remaining open to community organizations, schools, and religious groups seeking a high-quality outdoor experience.
The campground is a blend of natural beauty and modern infrastructure, featuring managed wetlands, dense woodlands, and expansive open fields. For local families and scout troops, Camp Snyder represents more than just a place to pitch a tent; it is a comprehensive educational center where children can learn everything from archery to woodworking in a safe, professional environment. The park’s philosophy emphasizes the values of scouting—camaraderie, skill-building, and environmental stewardship—making it a vital resource for the Northern Virginia community. Whether you are visiting for a weekend of family camping or a structured summer day camp, the facility is designed to foster a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.

What is Worth Choosing
When deciding where to take a youth group or family in Northern Virginia, Camp William B. Snyder is worth choosing for its unparalleled infrastructure and specialized programming. It is specifically tailored for "entry-level" campers who might be intimidated by more primitive environments. The availability of raised tent platforms means you don’t have to worry about uneven ground or moisture seeping into your tent, while the air-conditioned cabins provide a comfortable "home base" for those who aren't quite ready for a full night under canvas. This makes it an ideal choice for multi-generational trips or groups with first-time campers.
The activity variety is another standout factor. Unlike many standard campgrounds that only offer hiking and fishing, Camp Snyder provides a high-adventure experience on a smaller, more manageable scale. The combination of water sports, shooting ranges, and creative spaces like the woodshop ensures that every child can find something that interests them. For parents and leaders, the focus on safety and the presence of trained staff provide peace of mind. While the camp can be bustling during peak weekend events, choosing to visit during a family camping weekend allows you to experience the best of the camp's amenities in a social, community-driven atmosphere. For those seeking a location that blends the traditions of scouting with modern, accessible facilities, Camp Snyder remains a top-tier destination in Prince William County.

Customer Reviews
We went camping here with a group of almost 30 people, next to us was another group of at least 40 people, and in from another large group... And all these people were stuck sharing ONE porter potty, placed in front of the very nice facility, ONE porter potty. Needless to say, it was disgusting and close to overflowing by Sunday morning. Other than that the place was ok. There was one facility, at the vet entrance, that was open and wrote nice, but too far to go from our site. At night, the trains, planes, and cars were so loud all night long... On the bright side, they provide plenty of excellent wood for burning. But overall, I wouldn't come back during this time of the year.
Great camp. Snyder has a bunch of activities you can do such as archery, a wood shop, a hiking path, and a whole lot more. There is also a variety of choices of how you want to camp, such as regular camping with your tent, on a platform, and even cabins and a cottage if you book them. The council also holds a bunch of programs such as NYLT and summer camp.
Decent campground for scouts with a good amount of bathrooms and showers. The ground is swampy in some areas after rain and most tent sites are built off the ground but many if them are broken.
Wonderful place to camp and get away from the city. The site is clean and taken care of. Lots of outdoor activities for scouts and friends.Offers first aid training and other activities for leaders and scouts.
