Caton Place Campground Introduce

Caton Place Campground is a quintessential Vermont destination that captures the rugged beauty and serene atmosphere of the Green Mountain State. Located in the charming town of Cavendish, this family-owned and operated campground serves as a peaceful retreat for local Vermonters and visitors alike who are looking to reconnect with nature. Set against the backdrop of rolling hills and lush forests, the park offers a unique "old-fashioned" camping experience where relaxation is the priority. Whether you are arriving in a large motorhome or looking for a secluded spot to pitch a tent, Caton Place provides a welcoming environment that feels like a home away from home.

The campground is well-regarded for its friendly community of both seasonal residents and short-term travelers. Guests often remark on the well-manicured grounds and the genuine hospitality provided by the owners, Tammy and Jerry. One of the highlights of the summer season is the sense of community fostered through unique traditions, such as the humorous "Christmas in July" celebrations where campers decorate their rigs with lights and festive ornaments. It is this blend of professional management and a warm, quirky local spirit that makes Caton Place a standout choice for anyone exploring the Okemo Valley region.

Location and accessibility are key features of Caton Place Campground. Situated at 2419 East Road in Cavendish, VT, the park is ideally located just eight minutes from the bustling town of Ludlow and Vermont’s famed Route 100. This central positioning makes it an excellent basecamp for sightseeing, with easy access to the region's best hiking trails, swimming holes, and local boutiques. The campground is designed to be inclusive, offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot to accommodate all guests. While the setting is blissfully woodsy and remote, the proximity to major local routes ensures that modern conveniences are never far away.

For those traveling with large recreational vehicles, the park offers various site configurations, including pull-thru options. While the terrain is naturally varied—common for the foothills of the Green Mountains—the sites are designed to be level and spacious, providing a comfortable setup for trailers up to 42 feet. The surrounding roads are well-maintained, though the management is always on hand to help guide newcomers to their specific lots. Its location also offers stunning views of Okemo Mountain, particularly from the sites in the "Mountain View" section of the park.

Caton Place Campground provides a comprehensive range of onsite services to ensure a seamless stay. The park is equipped to handle modern RV needs while preserving the traditional camping vibe. The following services are available to all guests:

  • Full RV camping support including electric, water, and sewer hookups (20, 30, and 50 amp service available).

What is truly worth choosing about Caton Place Campground is the balance it offers between quietude and activity. Unlike more commercialized "resort" style parks, Caton Place maintains a peaceful, "woodsy" feel where you can enjoy the silence of the Vermont forest. However, the abundance of amenities like the pool, the playground, and the weekly social events means you are never bored. For families, the park is particularly valuable because of its safe environment and strict speed limits, allowing children to enjoy the outdoors with confidence.

Furthermore, its proximity to the Okemo Valley attractions—such as the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site, Buttermilk Falls, and the various artisan shops in Ludlow—makes it a perfect strategic choice for travelers who want to explore the state without spending hours behind the wheel. The combination of clean, updated facilities (including the restrooms and showers), the helpfulness of owners Tammy and Jerry, and the stunning mountain views makes Caton Place a premier choice for anyone looking to experience the best of Vermont camping. Whether you stay for a weekend or an entire month, the park offers a high-quality, authentic experience that brings guests back year after year.

We stayed at Caton Place for a month while visiting Vermont. Beautiful area of the state. Honestly, the whole state is beautiful, though. The majority of the park is seasonal residents, who all take good care of their lot and rig. Everyone was very nice. We were placed in a grassy area with other folks who were not seasonal. These sites were slanted, but not enough where you can't level the rig. Power and water were good. Staff is friendly. Nice playground and pool. We were here in July and a lot of the people decorated their sites for Christmas in July which I thought was hilarious.

We stayed a month in August in a 30’ trailer. The setting is woodsy which we like. It’s a large campground with mostly seasonals but there are spaces for short-termers, too. There’s a playground, pool, showers & laundry. We didn’t use any of those facilities but we could see the pool & playground from our site & they looked well maintained. It’s a pet-friendly campground with sites that are a nice distance apart. Firewood for sale for personal use & there’s a bonfire every Saturday night, whole campground invited.Wifi is advertised but we found it to be a weak signal even for simple things like checking email or using Google. AT&T signal was 2 bars 5G inside our trailer w/o cell booster. Once we hooked up our cell booster, we got 4 bars 5G. We found it more reliable to use hot spots for connectivity rather than relying on campground Wifi.No issues with power, water or sewer.Owners Tammy & Jerry are helpful. Free brochures in the office for sightseeing trips. Campground is 8 min from Ludlow & VT’s famed route 100. Lots to see & do in VT!We’d go back if we’re ever in the area again.Campground open from May-Oct. check website for details.

We have been here since the beginning of July and have had a wonderful experience. The host are very kind and take great care of the property. We have a 37ft 5th wheel with full hookup. We travel with our 4 dogs, the campground is pet friendly, they just ask that you use a tie down or leash. They also allow pet fences. They are open mid May to mid October for the season. It is up on a mountain with a good amount of open space to walk about. It also has a pool, playground, and bathhouse house. The weather has been wonderful this season and i am sorry to see it come to an end. There are plenty of small town gems within 30 mins to explore.

A friend and I were riding the length of Vermont on bikes and we got there starved and beaten. Tammy offered to drive to Springfield and pick up dinner for us because we looked so pathetic, and we did. She saved the day! Showers, campfire, food and a real toilet were greatly appreciated. She and her husband were great hosts in a lovely area. Thanks so much!
