Codorus State Park Campground Introduce
Nestled in the rolling hills of southern York County, Codorus State Park Campground serves as a premier outdoor destination for Pennsylvanians seeking a mix of water-based recreation and forest serenity. The campground is centered around the massive 1,275-acre Lake Marburg, which boasts 26 miles of scenic shoreline. As one of the most popular state-managed facilities in the region, it provides a rustic yet accessible escape for families, anglers, and nature enthusiasts looking to experience the diverse landscape of the Susquehanna Valley. Whether you are arriving with a high-end recreational vehicle or a simple pop-up tent, the park offers a classic Pennsylvania camping experience that highlights the state's natural beauty.
Codorus State Park is more than just a place to sleep; it is a full-service recreational hub. The campground is open from mid-April through early November, allowing visitors to experience the vibrant bloom of spring, the lush warmth of summer, and the spectacular foliage of autumn. While the park maintains a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, it is a bustling center of activity during the day, featuring everything from disc golf to environmental education programs. For local residents of the Hanover and York areas, it represents a cherished community asset where generations have gathered for summer picnics and weekend retreats.
Location and accessibility are among the park's strongest suits. The campground is situated in West Manheim Township, with the main park office located at 2600 Smith Station Road, Hanover, PA 17331. For those traveling from across the state, the park is easily accessible from I-83 by taking Exit 8 and following PA 216 West for approximately 18 miles. Its proximity to other major Pennsylvania destinations makes it a strategic home base; it is only a 30-minute drive from the historic battlefields of Gettysburg and about an hour from the state capital in Harrisburg. This makes it an ideal spot for "staycations" where local users can enjoy a change of scenery without a grueling drive.
The campground itself is designed to accommodate various needs, though visitors should note that the terrain reflects the natural "rolling hills" of the region. Most roads within the park are paved, providing a smooth path for standard vehicles and RVs. Accessibility for all guests is a priority, with the park offering designated ADA-compliant campsites equipped with electricity, as well as accessible restroom and shower facilities. While the campground entrance can be narrow for larger rigs, the park provides multiple loops that cater to different camping styles, including areas specifically designated for those traveling with pets.
- Approximately 190 campsites suitable for tents or RVs up to 50 feet in length.
- Electric hookups (30 and 50 amp) available at more than 100 designated sites.
- Full-service bathhouses featuring flush toilets and warm, modern showers.
- Sanitary dump station and multiple potable water filling stations located throughout the loops.
- Unique lodging options including camping cottages, yurts, and the waterfront Black Rock Lodge.
- On-site boat launch and shoreline mooring specifically for registered campers.
- Seasonal swimming pool and splash pad available for a separate fee near the park center.
- Milo’s Market or the camp store provides essential supplies, ice, and firewood on the honor system.
The features and highlights of Codorus State Park Campground revolve around Lake Marburg. The lake is a "warm water" fishery, making it a hotspot for anglers looking for bass, pike, and perch. For those who prefer being on the water rather than just beside it, the park allows motorboats (up to 20 hp) and is a favorite for sailing and kayaking. On land, the park offers an extensive trail system, including the Mary Ann Furnace Trail, which provides hikers with glimpses of local history and diverse wildlife. Birdwatchers particularly enjoy the shoreline, which serves as a vital rest stop for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds.
- Stunning views of Lake Marburg with 26 miles of shoreline for exploration.
- A 54-hole disc golf course that is recognized as one of the best in the state park system.
- Environmental education programs including guided walks, talks, and audiovisual presentations.
- Pet-friendly camping loops that include a designated pet walking area.
- Diverse winter recreation including ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling (conditions permitting).
- A quiet, wooded setting that fosters a true sense of "getting away from it all" while remaining near town.
- New glamping sites (opening in 2026) for those who want a more luxurious outdoor experience.

What is worth choosing about Codorus State Park Campground is the sheer variety of experiences available in one location. For the price of a standard campsite, you gain access to a massive inland sea, miles of well-maintained hiking trails, and a community atmosphere that is both welcoming and respectful of quiet hours. It is worth choosing for the family that wants a "classic" camping trip where kids can ride bikes to the pool or fish from the bank, as well as for the serious outdoor adventurer who uses the park as a starting point for exploring the wider York County region.
While some veteran campers have noted that the facilities are older and that leveling an RV can require a bit of patience due to the sloping terrain, the trade-off is a campsite immersed in a mature forest with immediate lake access. The park management’s dedication to maintaining a clean and safe environment is evident in the well-kept bathhouses and the presence of friendly park rangers. Choosing Codorus means supporting the Pennsylvania state park system while treating yourself to some of the finest lakeside views in the Commonwealth. It remains a top-tier choice for any local user looking for a reliable, scenic, and activity-packed campground.

Beautiful state park...great hiking trails!
The campground is very quite, however it is very old and not up to date. There are several faucets throughout the park to fill your tank, but many of them are out of order. Based on how rusty they appear, I wouldn't have not gotten water from them anyway. Most of the big rig friendly sites are in an area that forbids pets. The other few larger sites are not very level side to side and they have a moderate to severe slope front to back. The Mary Ann Furnace Trail appeared to be over grow a little bit. The front entrance is very narrow and has an awkward bent to get to the check in station. The road to the dump station is rutted and could use an make over. There is a warning that the lake is not safe to enter water. Site was off 4" side to side and about 12" front to back. We camped at Codorus State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
We parked near the pool usually its a great experience but this time the bathroom closest to us was out of order disappointed
Beautiful sunrise, very helpful hosts and campers.
Excellent place to share with family
