Cold Brook Campsites Introduce
For New Yorkers seeking a genuine escape from the fast-paced environment of the city and its surrounding suburbs, Cold Brook Campsites offers a nostalgic return to nature. Located in the picturesque town of Port Leyden, this women-owned campground provides a sanctuary where the air is crisp, the nights are quiet, and the focus is firmly on family and the outdoors. Whether you are a local resident of Lewis County or a traveler from the Hudson Valley or Manhattan, this destination captures the quintessential spirit of "Upstate" life. It is a place where modern stresses are traded for the crackle of a campfire and the gentle rustle of leaves in the Adirondack foothills.
The philosophy at Cold Brook Campsites centers on providing a wholesome and authentic camping experience. Unlike large-scale, commercialized RV resorts that can feel like crowded parking lots, this property maintains a boutique and intimate atmosphere. Under the care of new ownership—specifically Matt and Lacey, who took over in recent years—the park has seen thoughtful improvements while preserving the charm that has drawn families here since the 1990s. It is a community-oriented space where seasonal campers and weekend visitors alike are greeted with a friendly, approachable management style that ensures every guest feels at home in the woods.
Location and accessibility are major draws for those exploring the Tug Hill and Black River regions of New York. Situated at 7301 Moose River Rd, Port Leyden, NY 13433, the campground is strategically positioned near the western edge of the Adirondack Park. For residents traveling from the Utica or Syracuse areas, the drive is relatively short and incredibly scenic, taking you through the heart of some of the state’s most beautiful rural landscapes. The property is easy to navigate, featuring a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a well-maintained parking lot designed to accommodate various vehicle types, including larger RV rigs and trailers.
Accessibility extends beyond just the physical road access; the campground is also a gateway to regional highlights. It is located near the Moose River, a famous waterway for fishing and paddling, and sits within reach of local landmarks like Agers Falls and the Black River. For New Yorkers who enjoy road trips, the proximity to Route 12 makes it a convenient stopover or a primary destination for those heading further into the deep Adirondacks. Despite its convenient road connections, the campsites are tucked away from the main traffic noise, ensuring that the tranquility of the forest remains undisturbed for the duration of your stay.

When choosing where to spend your leisure time in New York, Cold Brook Campsites is worth selecting because it offers a rare balance of history and modern hospitality. For many guests, this is a place of "core memories"—where parents who visited as children are now bringing their own families to experience the same simple joys of bicycle riding and stream exploration. The fact that the business identifies as women-owned and is operated by a dedicated local couple adds a layer of personal care and community investment that you simply won't find at corporate-owned parks. You aren't just a site number here; you are part of a seasonal tradition.
Furthermore, the value of the experience at Cold Brook lies in its "truely authentic" nature. My parents had a camp site here back in the 90s. It is amazing reviewing the recent photos posted here how similar things look. I spent hours exploring cold brook on my bicycle as a child, it is a core memory of mine. Thanks for the memories.

I visited a friend at Cold Brook Campsites and was very jealous of the stream in his site. Very nice visit and got a personal tour of the grounds. Huge improvements since I was last there over 20 years ago. Looks very well kept, restrooms are nice and clean, lots of families and friendly people. Did not get to meet the owner's as the check in office was locked and empty. Would definitely be interested in visiting or camping there again.
Beautiful place to camp. Matt and Lacey do an outstanding job of ensuring that the place is well maintained and happy campers abound. We have had a great experience here.
